It’s not just you, it’s you and all other people who don’t appreciate the opinion of the author. This is the fourth article I’ve seen like this and the majority of people commenting are people who dislike the opinion. playing ff 12 on ps4 with the graphics update is far more impressive than on the switch. The only reason to like the port is if you game on the go.

I have it on ps4 with the sweet steel case actually, but its not like it looks impressive on it. Even if it was 4k (Its only 1440p on pro) it would not benefit it so much. The switch version looks almost the same docked and you can take it with you.
X1X/PC has 60fps 4k. Switch has portability. PS4 is the "Eh" version now

for me I own switch, ps4 pro and a gaming pc, I own on ps4 and pc and pc is the best version for by because it supports ultrawide. Second for me would be ps4 because I'm a completionist and I enjoy trophy and achievements. If it had, I'd prefer over ps4 maybe as I loved PS Vita versions of some games over ps4. But Switch lacks so bad in features that I can't call it a fact. It's a rather fair opinion. But these articles just try to state as facts smh

My main issue with these articles is that they are a template by this point. Insert game that's is pretty much the same as every other version and then talk about how it being on the go makes it the best way to play it. Rinse and repeat. What's the point?

Just like every other article like this, I disagree. Playing it on the go doesn't make it better, it makes it worse. I would rather play the game on a big screen, at a high resolution, with the highest graphics settings and at 60fps.

Sorry, but this crap's all over playing a game on a handheld console every single time.

Playing it on the go doesn't make a game better IMO. Especially a JRPG which isn't designed for short spurts of play time. If the game is designed to be mobile, and more considerate of maybe having to stop without warning, then yeah, it can be better as a portable game, but even then, on a big screen, it's not going to lose anything in that area.

If the graphics are better. If it performs better. If they add features. Then sure, it can be the best version of the game. But, best place to play is highly subjective. I love my Vita, and now the Switch is growing on me. I like playing a lot of games on the go. But, when available, I usually prefer playing those games on the PSTV for Vita games, or using the dock for the big screen while I'm at home. Some games don't look that good if they're on a bigger screen, but it's more along the lines of looking like a late gen PS2 game, or early gen PS3 game, so it's not all that bad if you aren't that fussed about graphics clarity.

And what late gen PS2 early PS3 game looks like Wolfenstein 2 or Doom? Come on.. even on the Switch those games still look pretty darn good all things considered..

My point is, is that portability doesn't make a game better just because it's on a portable system. FFXII, and before this FFX, weren't designed for portability in mind, so it's portable nature is moot IMO. If a game is designed around portability, that's different, but it's not going to be worse or better on a stationary console as far as that's concerned.

The improvements or if it's worse on a regular console depends on if its graphics are designed for a smaller screen, because you can get away with less detail on a small screen, and still have it look good, but when enlarged to a bigger screen it can look bad.

I'm not trying to say the switch, or any portable console specifically is worse or better than a traditional console, just that in terms of if it's the best place to play the game is subjective, and not a definitive conclusion.

So... what if I decide to play 12 on my Surface Pro? or Laptop? Or maybe even on my PS4 with remote play on my Vita or Remote play on my phone or tablet? Claiming this is the best place to play merely because it's portable does nothing for everyone when there are plenty of ways to play this port-ably then only on switch.

You know how you have to use a mobile phone to use party chat for Switch? I can use mobile hotspot for my vita and play it anytime. As well as again my surface pro open it and boom... full game.

I’m not sure what party chat has to do with this. Do you need party chat to play FFXII? I mean, I don’t like the Switch’s party chat solution, but I don’t really see the relevance. You’d need internet for party chat on any device regardless.

If your mobile phone plan has unlimited data and the bandwidth is good enough on the hotspot go for it! In my experience with my vita, remote play doesn’t work well with my hot spot. Yeah it totally is an option. Nobody is saying it isn’t.

The point is everything has minor inconvenience but why start being selective just to overlook other inconveniences. It's not a figurative portable experience it's 100% portable, just one is streamed the other is on a card. It's like making it seem like because you watch Netflix its not a "movie" experience.

@Neonrider You still are overlooking every OTHER option given for the games access that I gave. Again, I have a Surface Pro that can run it just fine. I have a laptop that can run it just fine. I can stream it in remote play from my PS4 to my iPad, iPhone and Vita just fine. In fact, when I recently went to cali I played Persona 5 from my iPad AND my surface on my Ps4 on the opposite side of the country and it worked perfectly fine.

Again, this doesn't mean Switch is the best just because it's portable. There are several Portable ways to play something and Switch isn't the end all be all for that.

Nobody is saying the Vita or remote play isn’t a portable option. There are just some stark limitations to the method. It simply isn’t as good of a portable option.

The surface pro? Yeah, that’s a good option. From there you have the bulk/affordability vs. flexibility/power argument.

Remote play is garbage outside the house though. I own a Vita, and while there are times it can work, it's highly subjective and usually results in a lackluster experience. Having the game physically vs streaming is not the same experience. If you want input lag, errors and the like then go ahead.

I like a big screen for FF12 since it has that MMO feel . I wish Dock mode looked better than handheld but it stretches out the pixels too much , I really want to play Xenoblade Chronicles2 on a big screen with much better resolution. It’s another way to play but everything else turns small and hard to see anything in the distance so it does take away from immersion and that’s not the best way to me. Some games are better in handheld mode but they tend to be indie games side scrollers imo with no draw distance . It’s cool to have handheld games but not the necessarily the best way . I do most of my gaming at home and I only use handhelds when I’m in bed and wife’s asleep, so I use my Vita or Switch for that . I work at home and when I do travel I bring a TV with me because I like a nice big screen . Handheld is great and all but it never beats a big screen for me

I loved Octopath Traveler, but handheld mode pissed me off. Why, I couldn't read a single lick of dialogue. Annoying frustration. Needed a magnifying lens to see the chat boxes (ie iphone zoomed in on camera app). So, jrpg on switch, yay. Switch in mobile mode, not with a radiation proof 10ft pole.

Yes of course it's gonna be the better on Switch, but using the word "best place to play" just by running games from 15-20 years ago, even with handheld mode included in the argument, the context seems a bit off to me.
