The SteamWorld series has gone from strength to strength thanks in part to its incredibly varied gameplay – with the metroidvania style of Dig & Dig 2 alongside the XCom-esque approach in Heist. SteamWorld Quest Review - GamerKnights

Joe from GamerKnights did a ful review of the new "SteamWorld Quest".

More:

"The SteamWorld games are some of my favourite indie titles of all time. SteamWorld Dig tapped into something primal and just got to the heart of addictive gameplay loops, whilst SteamWorld Heist – a side-on strategy game – mixed things up in such a stark way that it proved Image & Form weren’t simply one-hit-wonders. Their unique visual flair and knack for trimming the fat in any given genre has led to their newest outing, SteamWorld Quest – a take on the turn based RPG that is just as wonderful and charming as the rest of their portfolio."

I don't like the sudden increase in difficulty by introducing enemies that you have to destroy in 4 rounds or they do damage to your whole party while you don't have group heals or enough offense to take out a group of 3 or 4. Essentially it's a tool just to ensure you go into the next battle injured or you focus on taking them out first.

The first 'real' boss battle is that one with the thief and his 'puppy'. Hint on that one, ignore the 'puppy' at the start, take out the thief. Then enjoy that long arse battle to take out the 'puppy'. Definitely go back to the starter weapon for your mage on that one as well, health shields are a necessity.
