Grand Theft Auto 4’s music library getting pruned as licensing agreements expire

Decade-old game proves to have a dedicated fanbase as its music library is getting trimmed with licensing agreements expiring.

In my opinion, this is crappy knowing that someone could go back and edit something you bought and paid for.
Other mediums lose their licensing all the time, like movies or TV shows, but no one goes to your home and takes your blurays/dvds.

The way I see it, this should only apply to new copies that are printed or sold digitally.

yea but it mostly affects the russian channel in the game. i mean the game is 10 years old. if u license real music from real artist's well i guess this is what happens. atleast they let us know that this is happening

It's been a long time since I played it but I mostly listened to Independent FM with my own music but mainly enjoyed the humor of the talk radio shows. The radio was something GTA 4 did better than GTA 5 in my opinion.

On console: Turn off all automatic game updating (which is a bad idea in the first place, and here is one perfect example why). Take the console offline to play GTA 4. It's a solo offline game anyway.

On PC: Back up the game folders (if you haven't already). Locate and get, er, modifications which will let you play your game off of Steam. Wait for the inevitable mod that will replace the tracks stolen from the game, and then it will be your choice whether to go back to playing it through Steam. (For an offline game this old, Steam doesn't offer much advantage anyway).

If on PC very simple solution. Just torrent all the music tracks the game has. Put them in your folder and just let GTA 4 stream it :D Last time I actually "bought" music maybe a CD was way back in 1993 lol

Weird I don't even think Volition had to dive into any of their Saints Row games and rip out the music and swap it for new stuff. I never really liked GTA 4 but Rockstar going into the game and tweaking the music sucks I wonder if Rockstar will do the same to GTA V.

Makes me wonder what else they could remove from games in the future. Costumes, characters, vehicles, weapons, hell entire levels for whatever reason? Who knows. Just another reason I'll never go digital only. At least with physical you don't have to update the game (older games, not talking about the likes of COD WW2). With digital they could force you to update before letting you play.
