We Need to Support Ubisoft and Get Behind Them

Patrick at twobeardgaming knows this opinion has the potential to be a little divisive, but please hear him out. I know that Far Cry 5 has been getting some mixed reviews but we should all try to support Ubisoft

I don't think people should buy games they don't want. However, out of all the big western 3rd party pubs Ubisoft is the only one consistently pushing new IP and new ideas.

DaDrunkenJester2236d ago

Unfortunately they don't always deliver on the hype, but I agree. They actually push new ideas and IP's and I can respect that for sure.

indysurfn2235d ago

I'm not supporting a micro-transactions leader. https://gamerant.com/ubisof...

PoSTedUP2235d ago (Edited 2235d ago )

they work hard and they give us great games. a lot of the time we are to blame for over hyping them. not every game is going to be better than the last.

DaDrunkenJester2235d ago

@Indy

Don't buy MT's then...

_-EDMIX-_2236d ago

100% agree with this comment

I of course cannot condone anyone trying to force anyone to purchase a Publishers games simply over personal emotion or bias but I also believe that people should at least cut Ubisoft some slack and recognize that they're trying new things more than the other Publishers even if I personally don't buy their games often. I think I only own 3 Ubisoft games this generation but I appreciate them trying new things

Godmars2902235d ago

What would you do otherwise? Ask people on the street if they're gamers pulling a gun on them taking them to Gamestop making them buy Ubisoft games for saying "yes"?

_-EDMIX-_2235d ago

@godmars- "cannot condone anyone trying to force anyone to purchase a Publishers games simply over personal emotion or bias"

I mean buddy it's literally right there in the post Are you seriously telling me you don't understand that means I don't support the concept of someone doing that?

So the question you're asking in your post....no ,I wouldn't do that at all as Illustrated in my actual point of saying I would never condone something like that. I mean I don't mean to be rude but are you really telling me you're unable to read and understand what that actual post means? lol

oh boy

So basically you're debating something that is pretty clear in regards to the answer that's being provided?

Godmars2902235d ago

No debate. Rather pointing out the pointlessness of making the statement. This article.

If Ubisoft makes a game worthy of welling well, then that's that.

If someone fells the need to go on social networks to beg others to buy a poorly selling game for fear of "their" favorite studio being closed, pitching a fit when someone else tells the game is crap, then the first person never should have bothered posting in the first place.

The issue being that in the second case - that happens all the damn time!

thorstein2236d ago

That's hilarious, I said the same thing a year ago and got a ton of downvotes. At that time it was hip to hate Ubi.

Hear hear for new IPs. Can't wait to see what else they are going to do. I already fully support them.

Princess_Pilfer2235d ago (Edited 2235d ago )

Not really. New IPs maybe, but they are *almost* always layered over the same generic ubisoft open world game design, and even when they do have a "new" Idea like for honor, they kill it with Pay to win nonsense and poor balance.

Also they're still putting micro transactions in single player games, for which there is no excuse, so it's basically automatically not worth supporting them.

princejb1342235d ago

Yup but 90% of the time. Their open world games are very repetitive. Same missions over and over with lots of bugs

BigTrain2235d ago

That's exactly how I feel about their games. Not horrible but really repetitive content wise. Another reason why I quickly fell off the Assasins Creed hay-filled wagon.

Lennoxb632235d ago

Gaming as a whole is repetitive. People really abuse this word when talking about games.

UnholyLight2235d ago

I've always liked Ubisoft as a puublisher, at least they are consistently trying new ideas or IP's. I agree completely. They're solid, maybe the games aren't always perfect but I love the variety.

Count_Bakula2235d ago

New ideas, maybe, but not quite sure how much I respect a developer that hasn't changed their running animations for 4+ years. They love recycling assets.

DigitalRaptor2237d ago

Ubisoft is one of the more respectable AAA publishers.

They support a lot more new ideas and I can certainly get behind their products if they're good.

AspiringProGenji2236d ago (Edited 2236d ago )

Ubisoft has a great output of new ips and they are very versatile, but many of their new ips just fall flat in the end. Look at Watchdogs, new idea and much potential, and it ended being a GtA clone. For Honor looked cool but it has been forgotten. The division was dissapointing, and after Siege they seem to be going the Gass route. You Be Soft didn’t see a cent from me until AC Origins because after the mess that was Unity (day one buyer), I couldn’t stand them anymore

Dlaw762236d ago

Don't think you meant The Division

CorndogBurglar2236d ago

@ Dlaw76

I'm pretty sure he did mean The Division because it was disappointing for quite a lot of people.

killswitch802235d ago

The Division is amazing now and a lot of people actually love that game. This may be news to you but people like different things. Is your mind blown now?

frostypants2235d ago (Edited 2235d ago )

@killswitch80, it's an objective fact that The Division was a let down upon release. It was expected to be a 90+ type game and ended up barely hitting an 80 on MC. Let's not revise history here. It may be better now, just as many mediocre games improve over time, but it had serious issues. A lot of people may like the Division, but a lot do not...is @AspiringProGenji not entitled to his opinion? This started when @Dlaw76 insisted he didn't mean that.

"We need to support crowdfunding and get behind this platform."

Fixed the title for you. Or are downgrades and disappointments and modern shitty trend games that don't have lasting appeal like Watch Dogs a good thing?

For every good game they make, they make 5 lies/disappointments.

thorstein2236d ago

Oh really? How's Star Citizen?

Princess_Pilfer2234d ago

Yes. Because Star Citizen, all by itself, totally negates Shantae and Pillars of Eternity and Divinity OS/OS2 and Shadowrun Returns/DragonFall/Hong Kong and Elite Dangerouse and Wasteland 2 and Torment Tides of Numinera and Undertale.

Totally. All those success stories? They mean nothing because 1 crowdfunded game hasn't come out. Never mind the independant projects having more creative freedom to make the kinds of games they want without publisher interfearance, never mind them generally not engaging in predatory monitization schemes, never mind the revival of previously near-dead genres. No, star citizen is vaporware, so all the actual benefits of crowdfunding independant titles don't exist.

porkChop2235d ago

We started supporting crowdfunding because publishers were apparently the problem. So we tried that, and circumvented publishers. What happened?

Most higher-profile crowdfunded games have ended up being garbage or at least very disappointing. Crowdfunding isn't working, and is clearly not the solution.

bluefox7552235d ago

Just because devs don't have a publisher screwing things up doesn't mean they're immune to failure. It doesn't guarantee success, but it does guarantee more creative freedom. What they do with that freedom is what matters.

stanr2236d ago

I do admire Ubisoft for their commitment to longevity in their games.

Jakens2235d ago

I agree. The great support. I'm pleased with Ubi.

-Foxtrot2236d ago (Edited 2236d ago )

They are all about online focused games these days especially in new IPs

The Crew
For Honour
The Division
Steep
Skull and Bones

Same rinse and repeat gameplay where they make limited content and expect the play with his friends to make their own replay value because apparently playing with friends and having fun doing the same limited things with them evens everything out...holds them over until the expansion pack hits.

Razzer2236d ago

AC: Origins
Far Cry 5
South Park: TFBW
Watch Dogs 2
Ghost Recon Wildlands

Those games have some damn single player content. So no....not "all about online focused games". Ubisoft puts out a good mix and really good quality, imo.

MWH2236d ago

Add greats like Child of Light and Rayman and you have one of the most versitale devs in the industry and that's always a good thing for gamers.

-Foxtrot2236d ago (Edited 2236d ago )

I said new IPs

Brand new original games...

AC isn't new
Far Cry isn't
South Park isn't
Watch Dogs isn't
Ghost Recon...nope

The 10th Rider2236d ago

@MWH,

IMO those games don't help Ubisoft's current reputation. Rayman last came out 5 years ago now, Child of Light was 4 years. There was Valiant Hearts 4 years ago as well. They dabbled in those types of games for a year or two but they haven't put out anything similar in 4 years now. They don't seem to care about those smaller titles so much anymore.

Razzer2236d ago (Edited 2236d ago )

"I said new IPs"

Nope, you said "especially in new IPs".

JackBNimble2235d ago

Don't forget rocksmith which is an offline single / 2 player game.
Also my single most favorite piece of music teaching software ever created.

This game is by far the most innovative game ever.

killswitch802235d ago

Watch Dogs is a pretty new IP

Lockdown5552235d ago

Everyone seems to also be forgetting Mario and Rabids which was an outstanding new IP although only on a Nintendo platform.

MWH2234d ago (Edited 2234d ago )

@The 10th Rider

Unfortunately i think you are right. Nonetheless, potentials and talents are there so there's hope one day we will see more of these gems.

+ Show (5) more repliesLast reply 2234d ago
yellowgerbil2236d ago

Mario + rabbids was an amazing new IP.

_-EDMIX-_2236d ago

Slow down you're not allowed to mention that because it breaks Fox's bias narrative

_-EDMIX-_2236d ago

So razzer is very much putting you in your place regarding this I'm sorry but you can't keep trying to cherry-pick this type of stuff to force a specific narrative because Ubisoft has actually been doing both Concepts unless you're going to tell me that South Park is an MMO or Assassin's Creed is an online-only game.

Spire me with trying to spin it because Watch Dogs is a new intellectual property....

Princess_Pilfer2235d ago

Watchdogs is a generic ubisoft open world game. Just like farcry, and assassins creed, and ghost recon, ect. The split between single player focused and multiplayer focused is mostly irrelivant because they're mostly the same formula. An enormous open world, filled with a metric crapton of repetitive stuff to do (usually subdivided into like 4 to 6 types of objectives.)

There is every reason to have an anti-ubisoft bias. Even when they are actually improving their games or doing something new, they insist on ruining it somehow. (See: the pay to win crap in For Honor, the microtransactions not only being in a single player game, but bogging down the experience by increasing load times for the store)

Petebloodyonion2235d ago

@Princess
"Watchdogs is a generic ubisoft open world game. Just like farcry, and assassins creed, and ghost recon, ect. And yet Zelda and MGS5 are given 10 for copy pasting this formula while giving less...

Princess_Pilfer2235d ago

1: Neither Nintendo nor Konami have like 7 ongoing franchises that use that exact same formula.

2: I didn't review those games, and if I did I woulnd't give either of them a 10 so I don't know what point you think you're making?

3 BotW uses a different formula. Similar, yes, but BotW doesn't fill every square centimeter of the game world with random crap and icons indicating some form of activity. Also the shrines are mostly meanigfully different puzzles, and not repetitive beyond the broadest possible meaning of the term. Though several of the criticisms of generic ubisoft open world games do still apply, it's not actually the same formula.

bluefox7552235d ago

@princess pretty much how I feel. They put out pretty and polished open worlds, but everything from the stories to the game play seems to mostly follow the same generic formulas. I'm not saying the games are bad, it's just we've seen it all before, over and over again.

killswitch802235d ago

I wish I could like Petebloodyonions comment a thousand more times. Exactly bro, Other open world games have the same types of quest over and over but Ubisoft is the only one to get sh*t on. Plus I can share most of these experiences with friends.

Princess_Pilfer2235d ago

No, no they don't. Go play Morrowind. Or Fallout NV. Or Stalker. Or Deus Ex.

Like, the difference betwen "an open world game" and "generic ubisoft open world game" tends to be in structure. In AC and Farcry and the division and ghost recon (and definitely more that don't jump to mind) the "kill everyone in this camp" objective (in a map with 3000 of the damn things) just stops being interesting. Few of those encounters are meaningfully different, often even between games. They *could* make them meaningfully different in a number of ways. (say, a large variety in enemy types so you can't use more or less the same strategy for every single one, or mandatory stealth ones, or ones you have to take down indirectly because it has to look like someone else did it.) Ubisoft games do almost none of this, ever. The *entire game* ls like those radiant quests in F04 and Skyrim that people hate.

Hypercharge Unboxed Dev Saddened By Claims It'll Be 'Dead' Without Xbox Game Pass

One of the big Xbox releases heading our way in May 2024 is the long-awaited Hypercharge Unboxed, which is finally bringing its "first and third-person shooter action figure game" to Xbox consoles on Friday, May 31st.

Sadly, ahead of launch, the game's official Twitter (or "X") account has been highlighting the "trolls" who are claiming that because it's not launching on Game Pass, Hypercharge Unboxed is already set up for failure on Xbox.

helicoptergirl18h ago

It's horrible what people will say, but the truth might be harsh. There is a good chance it might not do well on Xbox if it's not on GamePass. There is a strong possibility that is the case. We'll see.

When it launches on Playstation in the future you can rest assured it will sell much better. The devs have confirmed it's coming to Playstation in the future.

"It is built in the Unreal Engine 4. The game was released on the Nintendo eShop on January 31, 2020 and on Steam on April 27, 2020. The development of Hypercharge: Unboxed for the Xbox platform was officially announced on July 16, 2022, with the developers also confirming future support for the PlayStation."

ZeekQuattro17h ago

I remember having this on my radar years ago for the Switch but never pulled the trigger on it. Crazy it's still not on PlayStation yet.

northpaws9h ago

And that's the problem of GamePass.

JEECE8h ago

Unfortunately once people are conditioned to expect to get something as part of a subscription they already pay for, they are unlikely to buy it a la carte. Some games, including this one, now look like "Gamepass Games" to a huge chunk of the Xbox audience. Maybe this game will buck that trend, and I wish them luck, but I'd imagine they'll have a rough go trying to sell this game on Xbox.

shinoff21838h ago

Hopefully their game not selling on Xbox doesn't stop them from bringing it to ps. I can't imagine why a developer would go Xbox first if their not on gamepass. Good luck to them though.

JEECE8h ago

Yeah I can't figure that out either. I mean I understand why you go there first if you get a Gamepass payday, but if you are just trying to sell copies it doesn't make sense. Fewer users overall, and a smaller percentage of those users are willing to buy indie games a la carte.

Jingsing6h ago

Yeah, I can't understand it either unless there is some deep routed fan-boyism from the developer, which isn't very clever if you are trying to make a living. Fatshark is a perfect example of a developer sending their games to die on Xbox and they kept doing it.

Jingsing6h ago

British guy saying Xbox is his dream console doesn't really sit right does it. 5 generations of PlayStation in the UK and you haven't figured out what console is going to make you the most money. That is the mistake you've made.

Epic Games Faces $1.2 Million Fine Over "Unfair Practices," Plans to Fight Back

Epic Games is facing a $1.2 million fine by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets over "unfair practices" in the Fortnite shop.

Sciurus_vulgaris1d 1h ago

It might be cheaper to simply pay the fine. Fighting said fine could cost millions due to court and lawyer fees. Fortnite generates well over a 100 million in each month, so Epic has plenty of cash.

franwex17h ago(Edited 17h ago)

But if they did pay it, then they are basically admitting that they did something they weren’t supposed to be doing. If they fight it, they may win and continue to have a sense of urgency for their micro transactions thus making more money long term.

Goodguy019h ago(Edited 9h ago)

Meaning more suits to follow from others if they don't fight as well.

Not a fan of Epic nor fortnite and their micro transactions. But the game is heavily supported and is free to play, all store items are completely cosmetic.

16h ago
Furesis12h ago

I'd fight back too. These are kinda meaningless reasons to fine someone like really for THAT. It's like they just wanted to make money or something.

Sephiroushin3h ago

There is a law for something, but even if its stupid follow it because if you break it you pay for it; if they knew they cant place a “buy now” in NL then just dont do it!

The market for games like this is too over saturated to make a dent in other established games' player counts. Trying to start all over with a whole new multiplayer meta and grinding to get better is not feasible when there's already a ton of similar games that have come out before it.
