Far Cry 5 Runs At 1800p Resolution On Xbox One X And Offers Improved Frame Rate

Far Cry 5 is set to launch soon for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. The game also comes with support for the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, in which case, the technical details regarding the support hasn't been revealed properly yet.

I'll be getting the pc version of this game to play it in 4k 60fps or more. I don't mind if a game runs at 30 and dips in 20s or so as long as the game is good. I'd rather play certain games the best way possible but playing games with lower frames isn't a big deal breaker. You'd be limiting yourself if you only want to play games at 4k or 60fps or higher because a lot of amazing games run at 30fps. Even the 1800p on Xbox is going to be good for this game because the game looks amazing

I play 1440p on my PC at 120 or 144hz, love it. Frame Rate matters. 4k is nice, but I will take a slightly lower resolution and higher frame rates any day of the week.

1200-1800p and 50-60fps is much better than 4k at 25-35 FPS with large drops.

Besides, most people are sitting so far from their TV they can't tell the difference between a few hundred lines of resolution anyways. At 10feet away, you don't see 1800 vs 2160.

Framerate over resolution or graphics any day of the week as gameplay at 60 fps or above is better than gameplay at 30 fps. Naughty Dog which is one of the most respected studios in this industry went as far as saying that gameplay at 30 fps felt broken compared 60 fps when they released TloU remaster.

I play on PC, and really put a lot of time between upgrades. I've had to result to locking the games at a lower framerate than 60, and have found that 45 really is the sweet spot between 30 and 60. I don't see the big difference between it and 60, but it feels a so much smoother than 30. Had to do this for Mankind Divided.

XB1X, does run at a better frame rate than the base XB1 XB1S, and PS4, higher resolution too 1800p. If you have a base console, I would guess 30fps. Because its open world.

60FPS is unnecessary. Gameplay and animation are smooth enough at 30FPS and the extra power is better used for more density in the world than extra FPS. IF you're talking about 60FPS for control then I can see the benefits of better precision but controller input can be decoupled from the visual frame rate if a developer chooses, and when this is done both better control and better looking worlds can coexist.

It doesn't matter that TVs don't support 1440p, PS4 Pro upscales everything to 4K anyway - its just the higher the original rez is the better the final image will appear. Battlefield1 running at ~1440p still looks class!

Just goes to show how PC gives you the option, and options are nice. Usually if you have a monitor that supports high refresh hertz Gsync/Freesync or not you can lock it wherever you want.

Sometimes if I can't hit the mega resolutions and settings I want solidly 60FPS in games I will do a trade off and run a game at 50FPS if it means it'll stay locked there. It's superb. Far superior to 30FPS, not so noticeably below 60FPS, but totally consistent. Ahh the wonders of PC gaming....

Its not that we're anti 60 fps, it's that the media tells us we want 4K. So of course it gives the fanboys something to argue about. So of course, that's where the time gets spent.

Myself personally though, don't particularly care about 60fps or 4k. 1080 @ 30 has suited me for years and until I get a 4k TV, I can't miss what I've never had.

Playing on your couch on a 70 inch tv with a controller? Check
Playing with keyboard and mouse? Check
Playing with VR? Check
Playing on the go even if it isn't confortable? Check (as long as you have a laptop)
Playing with other peripherals such as wheel or a flight stick? Check

Consoles have some of these options but none of them have all of them.

That kind of stuff refers only to the output resolution and format, not the actual native rendering resolution. Check the box of any game that's not native 1080p and you'll see it still says 1080p on the back, like Quantum Break.

It's the same thing on Xbox One X enhanced games dude, you will never see a box say 1800p on the back because it's fucking meaningless for consumers. They only put the supported output resolutions on the box, it's not the same thing. They might be using it to mean it's a game that has an enhanced resolution for 4K TVs but it definitely does not mean they're guaranteeing native 4K.

Yeah....remember when Sony got sued over that, and people claimed Sony was being misleading? They got quite a bit of flack over that....and even lost a lawsuit. What was that technique they used for that again? Wasn't it checkerboarding? The same technique that will be used here....but with a different name? Or is it just upscaled....and not even sparse rendering?

Funny how a few years can change things, where some people will still claim that checkerboarding isn't a native 4K resolution(when technically it is), all while saying that the stuff on the back of the box is just supported output resolutions. If it's meaningless to a lot of consumers, then why were they sued over it, and why did Xbox fans go into a frenzy to have the chance to cast Sony in a bad light?

Seems kind of dumb to put that on the back of the box though, since all games will output at the resolution supported by the TV, even when you use options to use a lower resolution render. They'll just be upscaled. Only thing setting it lower in the settings will do is allow the TV to upscale, but technically, every game can output from the system at 4K. No reason to list that on the box....except it looks good doesn't it? That's why it's there...because it gives the impression of doing more than it actually can. 1800p means nothing to the consumer....4K is fancy though ain't it?

Would love some interesting reasons why this is in no way the same thing though.

I done understand all the PC comments in the thread, its not marked PC, its about the Xbox One. Most people cant play it on PC's at 4k 60 without spending about 800 on a GPU. I'm happy to play it on console as long as its not garbage. I still have the GTX 970 in my PC as I feel that I cannot justify spending that much money on an additional 30fps. A GTX 1060 6GB bare bones is 350. A 1070 is 600+. That is why I am sticking with consoles for the time being.

I can afford it, but, I just cant justify it for the sake of a couple extra frames. If they lowered the price to something more acceptable say 500, I could say yeah, I'll go for it, but I feel theGPu's are artificially high in price at 800 for the 1080/1070 for the trade offs. I'll stick with the 970 for my PC gaming and stick to consoles. The X and my gaming rig are hooked up to my 4k HDR TV and I'm fine with it. As for Far Cry, I'll be playing it on the X and having fun with it. For what the X offers, its a better choice for me.

I considered building an expensive PC to play games on, but then figured that I don't play on PC enough to really bother. My PC is going on 7 years old, and sports a 9800GTX. That's the minimum requirement for the first TR reboot game, and not sure if it'll run any AAA modern game. But in the end, I don't care to play AAA games on PC...not because I feel it's a pain, but just because it's easy enough to do on console, and console offers me the physical games I prefer. Outside of modern gaming ability, the PC itself is more than fast enough for my purposes.....which isn't too much at home nowadays. Outside some 3D rendering I have to work on for work, it's pretty snappy still.

Not that any of this has anything to do with anything....just thought I'd share.:) For me it's more a matter of desire, than means.

Doesn't bother me one bit. Just depends on what's more important to you. Personally, if friends bring more enjoyment, then that seems much more important than resolution. If you think about this stuff while playing, then maybe it's time to rethink your priorities, because it's rare I think to myself, "Boy, this would be so much better on another system". Nah man I don't buy $3k 4K TV, a $3k surround sound setup just to enjoy a fun game. Graphics and sound definitely play into it. But sacrificing having fun with friends on a lower quality version of the game vs enjoying the game at high quality but playing it by yourself is a real struggle.

I really wish everyone would stop moaning about 60fps today’s consoles don’t aim for 60 because they can’t do it most of the time I have the Xbox x and the games look amazing but if u want solid 60fps go and spend £1500 on a pc and shut up, the Xbox x is a fantastic piece of kit for the price tag but in order to have a 60fps capable console Microsoft would have had to go over budget then yous would all be moaning about 600 or 700 games console! I agree 100% my friend I would love 60 FPS on shooter especially but this generation of consoles just don’t have fast enough processors and they were never meant to target 60fs it was about reaching 4K and I have to say for the price I paid for my Xbox x I’m really impressed it reaches 4 k or near enough to it on all of the games I play in fact Forza 7 my friend has a pc it cost him 1200 pounds and his can’t run Forza at 4K 60 not withought dropping some of the settings he couldn’t believe how amazing it looked on my tv running on Xbox x Its 55 inch Samsung way bigger than a pc monitor. I priced I pc and it was goon to cost upwards of 1500 to get a really good gaming rig of coarse it’s goon to run games at 60 FPS it should at that price. I am happy with my X but then again I use mine more as a 4K multimedia device connected to my Marantz sr7011 Dolby Atmos HDR Receiver, so I am definitely in the minority here. I do play games and others in my house play games, but I probably use it more for multimedia than playing games. The X was a cheaper Dolby Atmos 4K Blu-Ray machine than buying for example an Oppo 4K Blu-Ray player, so for me its been great. I have a full Dolby Atmos speaker 5.2.4 set up which includes 4 elevation speakers and two SVS 12" subs and the sound is superb using my Xbox One X as the 4K Dolby Atmos HDR player connected to my Marantz SR-7011. The X has been a great buy for me and I don't regret it one bit. I also have a Gaming PC, a PS4 Pro and a Nintendo Switch. Best of all Worlds for game exclusives. Anyway, I'm looking forward to Far Cry 5, especially Arcade mode.

Jesus, you act as if Sony or Microsoft is going to come to your house and give you an award and that they actually care about your allegiance. Regardless what resolution anything runs in, we are all playing the exact same game. The gameplay remains unchanged, just a few graphics settings here and there. I love great visuals myself, but they don’t make up the entire game. Id be much more impressed with physics that added to the gameplay or AI that actually thinks on its own, without a script.

Im saying to all of you who participate in this ridiculousness... please stop. No one can have a decent conversation about the one thing these websites and forums were meant to promote... games! Which should be our main concern. Do you want to know why neither physics nor AI got a boost this gen? Because all gamers can talk about is resolution and graphics!
