I have a Steam Link...in a box...with two controllers, on is unused. Why? Because My Nvidia Shield Pro stomps on the Steamlink.

V0LT2486d ago (Edited 2486d ago )

I agree.

steveo1234562486d ago

I have 2 steam links, used regularly, I paid £15 each for them in the steam sale. How much are those shield pros again :)

Not knocking them nice bits of kit but for £15, come on, bargain of the century, no?

morganfell2486d ago (Edited 2486d ago )

I understand what you are saying. But remember, you get what you pay for. I wouldn't buy a Viewmaster if I wanted to watch HD movies. It isn't as if the Steamlink is slightly less capable. Its far behind. The Shield Pro is in a whole other league. And it is singularly responsible in pushing me to buy all Multiplatform games on the PC. It is singularly responsible for my building a brand new PC.

steveo1234562485d ago (Edited 2485d ago )

CAn it stream from non NVidia cards? I might into into them if so. One thing that does bug me about steam link is how it handles certain exes that call other exes and the game ends up in the background. Most of the time its ok but it can slip up

Kosic2486d ago

An android box would be just as good and use less power compared to streaming from a pc over WiFi.

But you would hit a wall emulating newer consoles on one.

kevnb2486d ago (Edited 2486d ago )

It's not as good as just using a pc. Since hdmi came about hooking up to a tv is no problem, it's not 2001 anymore.

SaiyanFury2486d ago

Yep. I have my gaming laptop connected to my HDTV in my family's sitting room and paired with either an 8BITDO controller for ROMs and emulators or for PC games like Skyrim an Fallout 4 with a Dualshock 4. There's no replacing a PC for emulators and the like. No doubt the Steam Link is an interesting product, but I vastly prefer my PC.

Aenea2486d ago

So you're still running them on your PC and then streaming them? Ehmm, ok.... I rather use a Raspberry Pi with RetroPie installed, much simpler configuration, no need for a PC and it's not streamed, runs everything...

To me the most important hardware is the battery. Doesn’t matter how powerful the chips are.

ABizzel120h ago

Eh…. It’s a combination of multiple things.

The battery is hugely important as it allows you to have ideally 4 - 5 hour gaming sessions.

The more powerful the processor the more games developers can share to the handheld, nd of course the better said games perform.

From there display, software, and ergonomics matter, as a good display/software will allow games to be more vivid, run at variable fps 30/40/60 ideally, and good ergonomics means it’s comfortable to play for said 4 - 5 hours. Everything else is gravy at that point.

redrum061h ago

Of course it matters how powerful the chips are for it to be future proof. Don't you want to be able to play new games?

Neonridr32m ago

the Switch proves that you don't need the most cutting edge power out there to be successful.

RaiderNation9m ago

@Neonrdr that doesn't prove anything because only Nintendo could get away with that. Their games aren't the most complex/graphically ambitious and Nintendo fans don't care.

Marcus Fenix2h ago

There’s no way you’re getting that 40CU 16-core APU in a handheld. That’s too hot and power hungry for that. The highest end APU they’re suggesting is going to end up in gaming laptops that can cool a 100W chip.

Jingsing2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

I think these articles get things a little out of perspective, Steam Deck has sold around 3 million and Switch has sold 140 million. But if you are browsing certain parts internet you'd think the Steam Deck had sold over 100 million. If articles are going to continue to circulate like this and continue to put the Steam Deck in the same arena then I'm comfortable calling the device a flop.

Neonridr29m ago

Steam Deck, while considerably more popular due to it's lower barrier of entry, is still a niche device with the likes of the ROG Ally and others.

I own one and it's really nice to be able to play some games on the go or in bed, but it'll never fully compete with a system like the Switch.

Ubisoft to Focus on "Return to Leadership" in Open World Genre, Expand Live Service Experiences

Ubisoft says they are focusing on two "core verticals," and that's to return as a leader in the open world genre, and live service games.

enkiduxiv1d 15h ago

Calling Ubisoft a leader in open world gaming at any point in time would be like calling Dollar General a leader in retail.

excaliburps1d 4h ago

Well, to be fair, they did pump out good open world games before. It was used as a template so much that people now know what it means when you say it's like an Ubi open world collectahon.

shinoff21831d 1h ago

What though? I can't think of one game they had where I liked anything about it. Atleast since the ps3/360 Gen

Kornholic1d 1h ago

If they have never been the leader in open world gaming, then explain me this: why does almost every open world game follow the same tired old Ubisoft open world formula?

Follow the Leader.

Aphrodia13h ago

YO dont' talk bad about the General. There'll be problems...

You were never the leader bro 🤣

shinoff21831d 12h ago (Edited 1d 12h ago )

I don't think they were ever the leader tbh. I've never really cared for any of their open world games. I do wanna try watch dogs 2 because it looks like it's set in San Fran. Looked interesting
