It doesn't need to be like Dark Souls which I like that. Every news ip need to have its own identity. Horizon Zero Dawn have borrowed some of modern open world game but GG perfected it to made it have its own identity.

I ageee and in many aspects, as I addresssed in the article, Nioh does just that. However, these two areas - enemy variety and a larger, interconnected or even more interesting world would have done nothing but add to the experience.

Enemy variety would have been so nice. Feels like I'm killing the same guys over and over and over in all the different areas. Gets old

Yeah I agree man. Early game I was questioning if I might even like it more than the souls games (have the platinum trophy in every one including bloodborne) but by the time I got to Nioh's late game, like the last 4-5 bosses It felt really repetitive and predictable. The slog I experienced in Nioh never happens in from softwares games. Every new area is fresh and unique, design wise and enemy wise. I also got bored of the loot sytem. The ability to use really unique weapons and craft builds in the souls games is just too good of a system. Team ninja made a great game with silky smotth combat but it was lacking in the end for me.

Read it, you make some good points but I think the reason people like Nioh is because it's different from Souls. There is actually quite a lot of enemy variety but for some reason they keep filling levels with dwellers and skeleton warriors, even when it's a human enemy based level.

With the exception the the bird dude, whose name I forget, the enemies you fight are all variations of the same ones you've encountered by halfway through the game. The only thing that changes is their elemental damage, if that.

A map/area in Nioh reminds me of the Chalice Dungeons in Bloodborne. I know they differ but the concept is the same. Start the level, find a door that doesn't open, continue on, find a "bonfire/lamp/little green guy hut, continue on, find the door you couldn't open before and open it finally, fight the boss.

We like this. The game also has no pause, no map, no GPS. That little Gud I've never even used during play. Hidden items around a corner you wouldn't look normally.

Right now it's my favorite game of 2017 so far. Nothing wrong with it. I consider it in the family of Souls as well. Along with Lords of the Fallen. Bring on the hate. I adjusted to LOTF playstyle. Not a bad game at all. For the price you can't beat it especially now.

I absolutely agree with everything the writer has stated about nioh. Iam currently somewhere just past the frog boss. Right about now Iam feeling frustrated with a few things and disappointed. Number one I feel it's an absolute disgrace that bosses are repeated not once not twice but so far three times I've bumped into bosses I defeated in the main missions. I feel that's a sell out and lacks creativity. Number two Iam somewhere in the third or fourth providence and all the maps look painfully the same. For this I agree sticking to Japanese lore has hurt this game. Number three yes refurbished enemies with a different power or health stack absolutely sucks at this point.

It's not even about it not being or trying to be a souls game it's more like this game has indulged in game taboos that any developer should know better than to let exist in their game. Anyway other than that the game is still fun and addicting but dam it just pisses me off that these things have been overlooked.

As far as where this game stands for me as far as difficulty, variety, and overal awesomeness it's at the bottom of my list.

1: demon souls
2: dark souls 1-3
3: bloodborne
4: nioh

In terms of difficulty, nioh is a more forgiving entry into the genre, followed, by bloodborne, then souls. At least to me anyway. Really enjoyed my time with nioh
