PlayStation VR sales figures revealed in exec’s interview

Almost a million in four months; Andrew House is ‘very happy’

ninsigma2643d ago

Good stuff! For a product in an area that is pretty niche and has to prove itself, the PSVR is doing very well. I never expected it to do as well as this so soon!

Utalkin2me2643d ago

Yeah, shame you cant milk cows on a plane......

MasterCornholio2643d ago

So why can't you milk a cow on a plane?

Utalkin2me2643d ago

Cause they say Eat Mor Chiken

rainslacker2642d ago

@Master

The confined space makes it hard to look the cows in the eyes while milking them. Cows need that to get the milk flowing.

Eonjay2642d ago

If the goal was one million in the first 6 months then they clearly are on target.

Its less than 1mil world wide. Its ok, but nothing to be excited about just yet. I was thinking from the comments here that it was north of 2mil. They have a long way to go. At this pace they would have a hard time reaching 2mil by year end. It is doing to take one hell of an E3 to get sales to pickup to near launch numbers.
I expect Fallout VR to be impressive, but a new game of that caliber is what it would take to really get people excited about VR.

Getting me excited about VR is a mountain of a challenge, as I love my I sight and my brains and don't free comfortable with anything that close to my eyes.

reaperofsouls2643d ago

Would be even more if production met demand,

Gazondaily2643d ago

People say the PSVR sales aren't all that but I think they are pretty mad considering (1) the price of the thing and (2) the obvious stock shortages and (3) lack of real killer apps

Its a good sign tbh. I hope Sony has some killer apps to show at E3.

Utalkin2me2643d ago (Edited 2643d ago )

Just stop please. Nobody is going to go to your site, cause all of the sudden youre trying to switch sides.

Gazondaily2643d ago (Edited 2643d ago )

Wow...wtf is this? I'm commenting so you guys can go on my site? Spare me the bullshit please.

So you don't want me to say positive things about PS because your head is stuck up your ass? Gtfo of here.

I've aways said that the stock shortages probably played a big part in the low sales. Now I'm saying that the number is impressive but you want to act like a prat. Well done.

Utalkin2me2643d ago

Quick search and Quotes from you.

"Really? Thought the sales figures weren't released by Sony?

It's all very quiet on the VR front. I'm not seeing the excitement for it at all atm which is worrying. The potential is there absolutely. "

"Not exactly encouraging for PSVR and developers making games for it at this point. I assume to sales completely tanked for it"

"I'm just saying, if a new PSVR headset is due soon or improved then it'll be best to wait especially for some heavy hitting titles. "

"So new PSVR version inbound? Perhaps it's better to hold off until better versions are out?"

"First focus on getting the VR games right."

Lol, im done and dropped the mic, peace out.

Gazondaily2642d ago (Edited 2642d ago )

@Utalkin

And what was wrong with what I said here:

"It's all very quiet on the VR front. I'm not seeing the excitement for it at all atm which is worrying. The potential is there absolutely. "

""Not exactly encouraging for PSVR and developers making games for it at this point. I assume to sales completely tanked for it""

THIS was about RIGS being cancelled and sales for THAT GAME being tanked. Way to mislead

And PROOF of how you are misleading in your comments:

So this comment:

"First focus on getting the VR games right."

I actually went on to say:

"Where in my post did I say that they need to come out with VR games right now? I simply said focus on the VR games first. "
"I agree the potential is huge. I have always said that. I don't know why you got the impression that I thought to the contrary!
"I'm not suggesting that Sony can't do more than games for VR. IN fact other applications could be great for it. Just saying their primary focus should be games first."

Conveniently missed that out eh?

Or this:

"THIS GAME MAN! I want it so bad in VR. I don't care if I get motion sickness. A puke bucket can become a gaming peripheral for me because this looks sick"

And even early DC + VR praise:
"Very impressive. Can't get a more solid recommendation than that. And so early on. Plus Neo versions will be even more impressive."

"Lol, im done and dropped the mic, peace out.!"

Lol yeah run off mate. Come back when you have actual evidence. Or when you can stomach me saying good things about PS when you're not so petty.

JohnWayne_2642d ago

Well looks like Utalkin2me is just calling out an obvious troll, that would be you sceptic. See you think we want you to be positive about PlayStation all the time, but all we really want is for you to not even be in a PlayStation article comment section. Also I figured you would be getting ready to play scalebound as much as you talked that game up in the past. As for psvr it was sold out for months and just came back in stock where I live, and of you haven't tried it you have know idea how crazy it is. The. Good thing this is just the beginning.

Utalkin2me2642d ago

@Septic

Sorry bubba, i proved my point. And it would be worse if i went back months ago. But what i provided states other wise of what you're stating here. Take your lumps and move on like a big kid.

Kribwalker2642d ago (Edited 2642d ago )

Sales of PSVR are fairly low if you compare It to other peripherals that have been released mid gen in the past like the PS move and Kinect

https://www.cnet.com/news/p...

That's 4.1million move and they said 2.5 million kinects in the first few weeks. To be sitting at less then 1 million sales in the first 5 months (less then 2% of ps owners have one) can be considered poor.

And @johnwayne calling septic a troll, really? One look at your comment history shows how massive a troll you are. Just brutal. And as for PSVR being out of stock since launch, I took this screen shot right after chrIstmas of availability at EBgames where it has been readily available since before Christmas
https://s23.postimg.org/quv...

And you have been attacking septic for years man, so maybe you are a septic troll
"JohnWayne_594d ago
I 100% agree with you shinmaster, Sceptic is a massive stealth troll on this website. He is always going in to playstation topics and making negative comments followed up with a slight positive comment trying to hide his biasness.

I don't think they care if you say positive things. I think it's that you don't come across as genuine. You can't spend a year or more trashing everything PS, then suddenly have nothing but generally good things to say about them, and say them in a way that sounds like you are a shill. You sound like Rookie when he talked about Xbox, only for PS.

Seriously, it's just disingenuous. If you hadn't had that time being the way you have been to get everyone on your good side, you'd probably be OK, because a while back, you actually were pretty fair and seemed mostly unbiased, so when you had positive things to say, it could be taken as a genuine compliment.

Even I don't talk this way about Sony, and can criticize them when necessary. I can compliment MS when I think they do something good. I don't get this kind of backlash from saying positive things about MS, because I tend to qualify such compliments with why I feel that way, and try to remain fair when I feel it's warranted. There's only a few people who seem to think I'm disingenuous with such compliments.

I also don't get all bothered if people don't accept what I say. I'm not here for my opinion to be validated by agrees. I state what I have to say, then discuss when prudent. People can believe me or not, it won't really change my opinion. Discussion could change that if someone tried.

Will be contributing to unit sales soon, just have a massive backlog to get through including the upcoming Horizon and Nier

TheGoodestBoi2643d ago

Im actually very excited to get one after watching some reviews for current ones: Battlezone, rigs and Robinson the journey. And then Farpoint looks intersting as well, whenever that releases.

ravens522643d ago

Resident Evil 7 is a must once you get VR 😉

TheGoodestBoi2643d ago

I agree RE7 is a must play title (not for me though as I'm not a fan of horror and I could imagine experiencing it in VR would be even more a daunting prospect for me)

G20WLY2642d ago

Yeah, Farpoint is looking great. Comes out in May 😉

TheGoodestBoi2642d ago

Awesome I had no idea it had a set date if I don't have a VR before then, I will when far point is out, looks like another must buy title

GT:Sport will likely where I can't put it off anymore. Wanted to jump in last month, but couldn't find one. Brought a PS4P instead. But GT in VR is just too awesome of a thing to pass up.

TheGoodestBoi2642d ago

Whilst Ive never been a fan of racing games, the experience on VR would make me want to try it. Bought a pro at the beginning of February myself. Doesnt the pro have slightly better visuals or performance in VR than the base models?

maryjane1232643d ago

Thats a fantastic one waiting for the launch

2642d ago
Summons752643d ago

They have been limiting stock and creating an artificial demand since launch.

Utalkin2me2643d ago

Nice, provide some facts to back that up....Ohhh wait you never provide facts it's only opinions.

Fishy Fingers2643d ago

Yeah provide evidence like people do in the Nintendo threads...

Utalkin2me2643d ago (Edited 2643d ago )

Dont you see, you need to wear a aluminium hat.

rainslacker2642d ago

Yeah, makes sense. Because we all know that artificial demands last for 4 months and that during those times said devices are actually next to impossible to find, and it's wise for companies to limit the availability of a peripheral which will require an install base to get support for so long, particularly after they spent so much money on R&D and marketing to get it to market. No wonder Sony is broke. They limit their potential sales by creating artificial demand for an extended period of time.

Note the sarcasm, because logically, everything I said, the opposite makes much more sense.

I think people want the bundle. I have mine and I love it, but here (Puerto Rico) the VR alone been sitting on the shelves on BestBuy and Walmart since day 1 but the bundle sell like in less than 10 minutes.

Garethvk63d ago

I can finally play Half Life Alyx.

mariopasta63d ago

I can finally watch pron, I mean watch pronouns be pronounced in PC VR games that were previously not available on Playstation.

crazyCoconuts62d ago

be careful not to sprain your... tongue pronouncing those pronouns

Profchaos62d ago

I'm excited for that to plus I can try fallout 4 VR always wanted to play that

crazyCoconuts62d ago

I was lucky and held off on 4 until I played it in VR. It really is pretty awesome - you'll love it.

DaReapa62d ago

The icing on the cake would be if Sony / Valve allow for a Steam Link app much like it is for the Quest 3. Likely wishful thinking, though.
