Sci-fi Souls title The Surge slated for May release

"It seems fans won't have long to wait for the sci-fi inspired game title The Surge after all. After detailing the Deck 13 developed title just earlier this month, publisher Focus Home Interactive today announced a release date of May 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms."

Oh man. This is ANOTHER title that I absolutely MUST play asap. Looks very cool and I love the sci-fi spin on the 'souls' style. Plus locking onto different limbs or sections of a robots body in order to weaken them, sounds awesome.

First Nioh, then Horizon, then Nier then The Surge... it's like the gaming gods have mapped out my year for me... glorious...

I bought Gravity Rush 2, RE7, Yakuza 0, Nioh, Nier, Horizon Zero Dawn and I will get the Surge day 1. This will be the most new games I've ever bought in the space of 2 or so months. My credit card just copped a major beatdown

@DashArrivals Wow, that's quite the lineup! Thankfully I managed to get through most of Yakuza 0 already for review, so onto Gravity Rush 2 now whilst waiting for Nioh :D

I've been high on The Surge for a while. I loved Lords of the Fallen and The Surge looks like a vast improvement and in a dystopian sci fi setting. Focus Home is publishing some very intriguing games of late. Call of Cthulhu, Styx 2, Vampyr, The Surge, and more recently Technomancer and Deathwing. I love what they're doing.

Hopefully they do some kind of beta before release.

As a souls fan, I was looking forward to lords of the fallen but after playing it I was disappointed with a lot of aspects of the game

After hearing about the surge I was hoping duck13 would listen to the souls community and improve their next game but sadly that didn't happen. I(as well as many other souls fans) can see alot of the problems we had with LotF in this game .I wish they did what team ninja did with Nioh.they did multiple test to get feedback from gamers. I was disappointed with the first test but with the second one that fixed all of my complains about new ones appeared. Now with the last chance demo, I can say everything we complained about was fixed AND we are getting pvp mode

Duck13, please listen to the fans because I as well as others will not buy this games unless you listen to our complains

No but I see the same problems I (and many others) had with the gameplay by seeing the gameplay video on YouTube

Chaosdreams2684d ago

What were some of the issues in Lords of the Fallen, that you can see in Surge? (I never played LOTF) So I'm wondering what the issues are (since I'm interested in The Surge).

SilverDemon2684d ago

most of the problems only apparent if you played LotF

1. clunky: even though the surge is faster paced game you can see that it is clunky just like lords of the fallen if you have played it

2.feeling of disconnection: one of my biggest problems is that the transition between normal walking and attacking feels weird is if you were disconnected from the game. this is partially because some attacks in LotF takes like 2-3 full seconds to execute which made me feel that I got disconnected from the game(as if my controller died)

3.no online multiplayer: pvp is huge part of souls games and the fact that this game feature slow motion after every execution(which is annoying if it self )implies that there will not be online components (even team ninja wil add pp mode to nioh after the community asked for it

4.the stupidly huge armor: one of the best part of souls game is that you decide whether you want to be a fast light wight character or heavy tank. this game supposed to be faster but look at the armor (LotF's light armor is bigger that darks souls biggest armor lol)

these are some of my head

Lords of the Fallen was contemporary with Dark Souls 2 and i feel like it holds up quite well, especially with visuals/grfx and combat. Lotf was very pretty and the hits in combat had more satisfying impact than in DS2. The secrets were great, the lore was good, solid boss fights, and a perfect difficulty level to where it wasn't hard just for the sake of being hard. Granted, the world size wasn't that large and the voice acting was average at best, but certainly understandable for a game with a much smaller team/budget than From Soft.

@tyler

my problem isnt that lord of the fallen wasnt better than dark souls(imo it was an ok game at best)
my problem that they didnt learn from it and change what the fans complained about (they didnt listen to the fans)

I would like to see them making more souls like game BUT more importantly, they need listen to the feedback to make better games (I've already mentioned how team ninja listen to the feedback for Nioh and if you played every betas like I did you would notice how much the game changed)

if you want to see an indie game capturing the combat and feeling of souls game go play salt and sanctuary you wont regret it (only if it had online co-op and pvp :'( )

Hopefully its not as clunky as Lords was, LotF wasn't bad but you were just so slow and clunky.

IamTylerDurden12684d ago

It depended on your loadout and loadout capacity as to how agile your character was. Depending on your build and play style you could be much quicker and more agile. It's not much more "clunky" than Dark Souls II. I found the combat to be very strategic and quite satisfying. The weapons actually have more impact with enemies going flying than DS2.

These mods enable God Mode for both The Surge and Lords of the Fallen

DSOGaming writes: "Lords of the Fallen was one of the first successful Souls-like games. LOTF was created by Deck13 Interactive and CI Games, with the former creating another Souls-like game, The Surge. And earlier this month, modder ‘Jeff B’ released two mods that enable a God Mode to them."
