What defines a hardcore trailer to you pal? A CGI trailer? A trailer with few short 3 second clips of gameplay and the rest being cutscenes like Horizon zero dawn trailer?

To me, I know a good game when I see one when the developer shows mostly gameplay in their trailer.

Curious what your counter argument to this stuff is or are people gonna disagree and call a gamer who owns a ps4 and never owned a Nintendo console in over a decade a fanboy?

I think this Mario game is meant to be played not watched to enjoy it

Horizon zero dawn looks cool but what from a gameplay viewpoint what is fun about other than it "looks cool robot dinosaurs". Imagine the game with out the robot dinosaur skin? Is anything special about it now? Like that does look cool TO WATCH but is it fun? Is there anything new to this game that is fun to play as a game. I think hardcore games focus on the thing that matters, gameplay, and I think this Mario game is going to more fun AS A GAME

Like games have sucked so bad over these years, they try to be like movies when they forget people are supposed to have fun first. Naughty dog gets it though and Uncharted 4 was great. I will give credit to them...THAT is a game that I wont trash talk for playstation. Loved every minute of it.

These trailers may look underwhelming BUT THAT IS JUST BECAUSE WE ARE USE TO SO MUCH FAKE HYPE BS that if a game doesn't have that in a trailer we think its bad. Like if we judged games by are impressions of their trailers, destiny and the Order 1886 would of been a masterpiece.... but hey...turns out it didn't make a good game because it WASN't...FUN.

I think I will greatly enjoy Zelda, Mario kart, and this Mario game more than I have for any game in years in terms of fun. But we will wait and see

Best way i can put this is, i grew up with Nintendo, but Nintendo hasn't grown up with me. If you think that mario gameplay appeals to the "hardcore" gamer, i think you're sadly mistaken. Not saying if i owned the system that i wouldn't play it, but at this point in my life of gaming at my age, it's gonna take More than a new mario and zelda game to get me to commit $300 to this console.

Wth are you on about? Horizon? What? Horizon has shown plenty of gameplay and the reason it has cinematics to show is bc it actually has a legitimate story written by real writers.

CBOAT is absolutely right, the game looks fun but it also looks fairly casual, not "hardcore". Dark Souls and Bloodborne are hardcore, not this quirky Mario game. Not the setting nor the gameplay looked hardcore, it's a ridiculous statement to make from Miyamoto. It looks fun, obviously, but it is about as family friendly and as casual looking as they come.

It is gorgeous with a world inhabited with flora, life, animals, people, robots and more at in vivid and gorgeous detail.

There is crafted and leveling that is deep.

Combat is versatile and ranges from action to stealth.

Each robot has a multitude of AI combat and movements. Nothing is predictiable and you have to learn each creature you tackle and they are different if corrupted on a rampage, working oer their directives, or operating as a companion.

I don't need to continue, you are wrong on every scale. Mario looks legit fun, but it is not on the level of Horizon because Horizon is a passion project by AAA developers. Nintendo is so out of touch it's disturbing.

If you ever played on the N64 and played Mario 64, then no doubt that was a game real gamers would enjoy. Mario 64 still remains one of my all time favorite games that I have ever played and this trailer gave me that feel.

Game looked like a 3D platformer with some depth and lots of variety. For people that like that kind of thing, the game is probably going to be pretty good.

Hardcore is a pretty wide swath of preferences for gaming. Some will accept more colorful presentations with solid game play, some will look down on it because it's not some 3rd person shooter with overly muscled space marines and cliched dramatic predictable story lines.

This is THE GAME I am looking forward to on this system. I'm absolutely enamoured with it and it's concepts.
I'm hoping this isn't a short game, but lengthy spectacle full of unique moments with a challenging flow or pace.
Structure. Let it be THE Super Mario Bros 5. Because, while Sunshine and Planets were great, I don't consider those the 5's I've been waiting for.

Probably why they haven't attached a number to a mario game in a bit. They know it will be compared to Miyamoto. Scared shitless? Who knows? While this too doesn't have 5 at the end of it, I can see this becoming something so tremendously fun that I could feel guilty merely playing it for too long.

Exactly, and the main series of 3D Mario games are consistently some of the highest rated games out there. I Played Galaxy 1 and 2 to 100% completion and they provided more than enough fun and challenging gameplay. I hated 3D World in comparison, but it was still a great game. Most people saying Mario is for kids haven't seriously sat down and played one in the past 10 years. Chances are when this comes out it's going to be one of the highest rated games this gen, anyone who thinks differently is kidding themselves. It's like Naughty Dog: They've got such a great track record that you can bet that whatever they come out with is going to receive high praise.

So no you haven't and you're making an assumption based on the game teaching you game mechanics early. I've been playing platformers for a long time and even with my skill(beating Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze with 1 heart and no checkpoints), the championship level in 3D World is still very hard.

Yeah, early 3D World footage wasn't impressive to me . . . The trailers that they showed just before release were amazing.

I still didn't like the game. I didn't like the 3D Land style of controls and I couldn't get into it as much as 64/Sunshine/Galaxy/Galaxy 2. However anyone who says it was easy didn't play much of it. Collecting all the stars later in the game gets pretty difficult.

Hardcore has a lot of different meanings to many different people. Someone could play Dark Souls and think all other hack and slash type games like DMC, Ninja Gaiden, GOW, etc are not hardcore because they are not as hard as Dark Souls. Mario does look like a game many "true" gamers could enjoy.

I said a "steeper leaning curve." Not different styles. Dark Souls isn't hack and slash. You can't just press attack, attack, attack like those other games. Same with Ninja Gaiden. DMC and GOW's difficulty comes from trying to get the longest, varied combos without getting interrupted by an enemy/obstacle. With Ninja Gaiden and Dark Souls, there's a LOT more dodging, blocking, and parrying than in DMC and GOW. Even though, all these games have a steeper learning curve than Mario as it requires more strategy at a faster pace.

Overwatch varies in difficulty based on who you play against. An experienced team will give you a very hard time. Just look at Overwatch E-sports matches and see how much skill is needed to be really good. I never said that devs couldn't make the games they want to make. But you can't just go around saying that Mario is as difficult as games like Dark Souls. Fact is, its not.

You could say the same about Mario. If you look at someone inexperienced playing Super Mario Bros VS someone with tons of experience, the difference would be massive. You need a ton of skill to be 'really good.' Heck, that's even true of the New Super Mario Bros series.

Honestly though. Super Mario Odyssey looks awesome on the Switch. I think this happened to me when Gamecube was announced with Mario & Luigi. I don't get the hype for the trailer....it's not a revolution of Mario, it's not an evolution, the visuals are okay - I don't play Mario for visuals though, course. Open world Mario is my jam. Didn't like any 3d Mario since Sunshine so this looks amazing. I really hope they have puzzles and I really like the unexpectedness of everything. Still Nintendo is doing everything to ensure I never buy a Switch. Can't believe their arrogance. I think they believe that the Switch is the hottest item since the iPhone and we will bend over for them. No go until games release and the online is free without having to use an app. I'm happy to wait since I can play Zelda on WiiU.
