True, but these games aren't just sitting on a shelf collecting dust... people actually play these games over modern titles because they are still so good and they are invested in the world. There is nothing pretentious about that...

I was there at the beginning for Ultima, Everquest, Wow, and Anarchy. The longest one that held any interest was Wow, but eventually I got bored and realized I was spending too much real life in a virtual game to earn items that were worthless each time a new expansion got released.

Ffxi will always hold a special place for me. Invested so much time met so many online friends that turned into real life friends across the entire world. Some of nicest people I've ever met were on this game. Even had a Japanese person host a friend and I since we frequently played during jp prime time. Oh the memories.
