Sony sees their first million [retail] seller in Japan since 2004

And it's an IP their competitor owns on a platform Sony abandoned years ago.

Dragon quest Builders was an excellent copy in a good way of Minecraft ....why they just dont continue with a sequel that would have the same volume and freedom as Minecraft but also keeping the anime/jrpgs features of DQB ...

freshslicepizza2722d ago

minecraft was actually a good investment even though it costs a lot to purchase.

I thought you guys have been saying for YEARS the Vita is dead.
A bit of consistency there ; should you be seeking clicks for a ghost? still now, and probably still next year..?

CocoaBrother2722d ago

If you are referring to this website calling the Vita dead, they didn't in this article nor any other article on their site from what I could find; they said abandoned by Sony in which they aren't wrong.

I love my Vita, don't get me wrong, but Sony hasn't released/published a retail game for the system in the west since 2014 with Freedom Wars... MLB15 was download only but counting that then April 2015. Western third party has been abandoned for years too but luckily Japanese developers continue to support it(thank you Square for Dragon Quest Builders and World of Final Fantasy).

Silly gameAr2722d ago

So, the headline just sounds like clickbait, but it's not actually clickbait. Got to admit, it seems like it was designed to get some clicks.

Kokyu2720d ago

Really? So the 7 to 8 games annouced at PSX dont count I guess.

Vegamyster2720d ago

@Kokyu

He said Sony hasn't released/published any since 2014/15 but did say Japanese developers still do to a certain degree, none of the games at PSX are coming from Sony.

OB1Biker2720d ago (Edited 2720d ago )

How is that related to the article?
'Sony sees their first million [retail] seller in Japan since 2004'

CocoaBrother2722d ago

If we include digital games, Minecraft passed a million copies in April. Retail wise, it passed a million this week
http://gematsu.com/2016/05/...

As for being the first Sony published game to pass the million mark in Japan in 12 years, I find it a little hard to believe. I don't have the time to research at the moment so if anyone could prove this to be true, I'm curious to know.

This is a Famitsu sales database: https://sites.google.com/si... If you sort by publisher (SCE) you'll find out the last Sony published game to do 1 million at retail was Gran Turismo 4 in 2004.

CocoaBrother2720d ago

Thank you, I appreciate the response

Christopher2720d ago

***As it stands now, Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition has been Sony’s final retail release for the handheld in Japan.***

Author needs to change this. Minecraft : PSV Edition isn't the final retail release game in Japan.

gokuking2720d ago

There's not been a Sony published Vita retail game in Japan since Minecraft.

Christopher2720d ago

I guess the confusion on my part is I don't interpret "Sony's final retail release" as being just Sony published but any game at retail for their device.

F*** AI

"Hey Copilot, what's a good meme to prove I dislike AI".... https://giphy.com/clips/sou...

Einhander197222d ago

Two trillion dollar company that just can't wait to put as many people possible out of work as fast as possible.

It feels like every single thing they do is making gaming worse and destroying the industry.

....you know it takes people to program the AI.... right? It isnt like it is sentient. We haven't reach skynet level of situation or anywhere close to the matrix just yet.

That's next Thursday.

Einhander197221d ago (Edited 21d ago )

It takes a people to program the AI then that AI is used for who knows how many games eliminating countless jobs which only grows as AI is used for more and more game creation functions.

What you're saying is so ridiculously short sighted and truly larking any kind of understanding and foresight.

Why all the hate? Im actually excited about this! Always wanted this kind of immersion, and an AI companion with me all the time helping me out knowing the status of my skills/inventory/progress and giving me tips on the best approach or how to craft something specific is game changing for the industry.

Hate all you want about AI, but this is just the start and I can see the potential already. You wont be complaining in the next 5-10 years about this, but rather complain if a game hasn’t implemented it.

MrDead22d ago

Yes we can't wait for the work of others to be used without the need to pay them so that MS can profit even more from the people they fire.

I_am_Batman22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

There is no chance I'd ever use something like this, especially if it's not part of the core game design, but a layer on top of it. It's way too much handholding. Many games already feel like busy work, because they don't let the player figure things out on their own. Having a real-time interactive guide defeats the purpose of playing the game in the first place in my opinion.

If this were to become the standard like you predict, we'll see more and more video games get away with bad design, because people will just be used to ask for help from the AI companion anyway.

Number1TailzFan22d ago

Well Nintendo don't need this with some of their games these days, with invincible characters, items, easy bosses etc.. they do the hand holding built in

helicoptergirl22d ago

Takes "hand holding" in games to a whole new level.

1 major advantage to this will be launching it straight from SteamVR. You have to make a custom shortcut to get it working right now in VR.

UltimateOwnage24d ago

This is good news. It will be much easier to get it installed on my devices without using workarounds.
