stop saying MS is desperate thas just out right not cool at all.....

GtR35olution2733d ago

Microsoft isnt giving the consoles away for free but are throwing them at people with free games. How will they sell a more expensive xbox one scorpio when they have the cheapest console on the market and offering free games but still sells the least amount of consoles. The xbox one always has crazy sales deals and its been that way since a few months after release

Summons752733d ago

It's like nobody has paid attention in the last ten years...plus.

It's the HOLIDAYS, companies do sales and deals like a free game ALL THE TIME. This is nothing new. Not for MS, not for Sony, not for Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Gamestop. It's their time to make the most sales and generally they make a majority of the entirety of the years money around the holidays.

Muzikguy2733d ago (Edited 2733d ago )

This is what MS doesn't seem to understand. They're sacrificing themselves just to get market share. It's like people don't even bother with a MS console until the price gets dropped and they give things out for free. I can see the same happening with Scorpio. MS really shot themselves in the foot there with the constant price drops and freebies.

darthv722733d ago

Ummm... isn't this really just another $20 off the already holiday price of $249.99 and only specific to one bundle?

FITgamer2733d ago

@Summons75 You're right....but Microsoft has been doing deals for what seems like this entire generation. It does kind of seem like a lack of confidence in their product. Though it's great for the consumer.

But they are desperate. If it was selling well, they would not be adding even more money of the cost and adding more free games. They're not doing it to be nice. They're doing it for more sales. If it does not sell well, then they will take off even more money from the price.

Kribwalker2732d ago

So the PS4 slim must not be selling well at all, seeing as it's on sale for $230 right now and they must be desperate to move consoles

http://n4g.com/news/1995761...

XanderZane2733d ago

Yeah.. Sony drops the price on their PS4 and PS4 Slim, but they aren't desperate. There are always sales like this during the holiday. Even the PS4 Pro was on sale several times, which made no sense since they were selling out everywhere at the normal price.

stuna12732d ago

Yeah that probably would be true if not for the fact that not even 3 to 4 months into this generation Microsoft immediately dropped the price of the Xbox 1 and pretty much since then they've had continuous fire sales for the console practically 3 years straight, not just the holiday seasons, top it off they're giving away their top tiered software as well.

I don't care what anyone says they can't be making as big a profit as many are led to believe! Xbox Live is likely their driving source of profit in their gaming sector.

Neonridr2733d ago

lol.. giving gamers a great deal is suddenly desperate. Yes I am sure MS is soooooooo strapped for cash.

Christopher2733d ago

While I 100% agree that this whole desperate thing is being blown way out of proportion (I bet they would be 'stupid' if they failed to be competitive; you just can't win with people who want to create a message of weakness towards anything), MS having tons of cash doesn't mean XB division doesn't need to make sure it remains above the desired profit margins.

Neonridr2730d ago

that's like saying Sony is doing well off when in actual fact they were doing terribly for about a decade. There were only a couple of divisions that were doing well for Sony and they were bleeding billions left and right.

I don't think the situation is anywhere near as dire for MS. Their OS still brings in quite a bit of cash for them I would imagine.

gangsta_red2733d ago

It seems people are forgetting that Christmas is just around the corner.

leoms2732d ago

Yeah, christmas was just around the corner for more than 12 months

snoopgg2733d ago

Oh they have lots of money and thats the reason they can give their systems away along with a game. Its not like they even have to make money off their consoles. Hell they will be giving it away for $99 pretty soon. Sarcasm cough

SpaceRanger2733d ago

People expect Scorpio to do well at a "Premium" price, yet they have to continually lower the price below $250 just to get people's attention. Not a good sign.

IndominusRex2733d ago

I could see the price of the original going down to $200 or even $150 after scorpio comes out.

SpaceRanger2733d ago (Edited 2733d ago )

I'd say by April you'll see that. Sony usually takes off in sales throughout the spring, so it's usually a good tactic for MS. I believe that's how they took April in the US. Their previous price cuts have happened around that time.

Red, you and I both know that their "limited time price drops" have stayed or come back as official price drops. Not a bad thing at all, but I think we're all smarter than that.

@SpaceRanger...

microsoft won't go out of business from it... so let them do as they please...

the "plastic box" isn't as important as the software/ecosystem...

gangsta_red2733d ago

Agreed, getting more people online with a yearly subscription and also paying for other services is where the real meat and potatoes are.

SpaceRanger2733d ago

I agree, they definitely won't go out of business...

But just because they don't go out of business with it doesn't mean that taking a constant loss of profit is smart. Software and ecosystem only go so far.

MS does have a lot of money, but I could bet all the money in the world that the Xbox division is not where they would allocate more resources if it is not succeeding. They have plenty of other divisions/subsidiaries that do well and have higher importance to them.

Neonridr2730d ago

Will be a different story when the console is the more advanced of the two. People can justify spending more on something if it's stronger.

I guess it's better to get rid of the old inventory, rather than getting that thing end up in the Atari landfill.

F*** AI

"Hey Copilot, what's a good meme to prove I dislike AI".... https://giphy.com/clips/sou...

Two trillion dollar company that just can't wait to put as many people possible out of work as fast as possible.

It feels like every single thing they do is making gaming worse and destroying the industry.

....you know it takes people to program the AI.... right? It isnt like it is sentient. We haven't reach skynet level of situation or anywhere close to the matrix just yet.

That's next Thursday.

Einhander197220d ago (Edited 20d ago )

It takes a people to program the AI then that AI is used for who knows how many games eliminating countless jobs which only grows as AI is used for more and more game creation functions.

What you're saying is so ridiculously short sighted and truly larking any kind of understanding and foresight.

Why all the hate? Im actually excited about this! Always wanted this kind of immersion, and an AI companion with me all the time helping me out knowing the status of my skills/inventory/progress and giving me tips on the best approach or how to craft something specific is game changing for the industry.

Hate all you want about AI, but this is just the start and I can see the potential already. You wont be complaining in the next 5-10 years about this, but rather complain if a game hasn’t implemented it.

MrDead20d ago

Yes we can't wait for the work of others to be used without the need to pay them so that MS can profit even more from the people they fire.

I_am_Batman20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

There is no chance I'd ever use something like this, especially if it's not part of the core game design, but a layer on top of it. It's way too much handholding. Many games already feel like busy work, because they don't let the player figure things out on their own. Having a real-time interactive guide defeats the purpose of playing the game in the first place in my opinion.

If this were to become the standard like you predict, we'll see more and more video games get away with bad design, because people will just be used to ask for help from the AI companion anyway.

Number1TailzFan20d ago

Well Nintendo don't need this with some of their games these days, with invincible characters, items, easy bosses etc.. they do the hand holding built in

helicoptergirl20d ago

Takes "hand holding" in games to a whole new level.

1 major advantage to this will be launching it straight from SteamVR. You have to make a custom shortcut to get it working right now in VR.

UltimateOwnage23d ago

This is good news. It will be much easier to get it installed on my devices without using workarounds.
