Still one of my favorite games
What are they talking about? They completely retooled everything from the ground up since cataclysm. Before that the game was at its peak. It's not that the added layers it's that they completely ruined what made the game fun.
This game needs to rot, it had hold so much potential from Blizzard, so much time spent on this instead of new games from them, pff
Thing is right now that's making the game unfun right now is that they don't know who they want to listen to: the hardcore elitists who believe difficulty means taking away any quality of life upgrades anyone ever earned (you'll NEVER convince them that flying mounts aren't Satan like they do for whatever reason), or the lazy people that want everything handed to them (assuming they exist and aren't just another anti-QoLer). The people who are just wanting to play a challenging game that doesn't just hand things to them but doesn't make them have to run through five or six low level zones just to get to something that actually threatens them because it somehow increases the zone's population are left out there wondering what the hell, Blizz? It's really odd how Blizzard continues to go to one extreme or the other, and never allow the middle ground to even have a say.
Meanwhile, there is one other problem that Blizzard has: Final Fantasy 14, ARR. The main competition to them when it comes to sub-based MMOs (if you want to count non-sub based ones, Guild Wars 2 is a worthy competitor). The game continues to show how much a game can improve from what it once was. It teaches newbies and encourages veterans to help newbies out, it has a REALLY FREAKING AWESOME graphics engine (as in, I've yet to see that game drop below 60FPS, and it has some stellar character models), the story, while not without its problems, is captivating, the classes are easy to learn and to get a hang of yet have enough depth to keep you on your toes, and mounts are never something people complain about. There a ton of things that FF14 is doing better at that WoW is right now, in my eyes, and they have continued to give people new things to do. Not to mention that it has the same advantage from its name that WoW does (who HASN'T heard of Final Fantasy?). With enough care, FF14 could be that game that doesn't kill WoW, but gives it the needed competition that will be very healthy for the genre down the road.
Just give us Warcraft IV already
