I get concerned with over hyping new IP games before their release. Whether it be Quantum Break, No Man's Sky, The Order, Scalebound, Horizon, etc.

Gamers need to learn that seeing games before playing them is a much different experience. I am excited about Sea of Thieves, but it will only turn into actual excitement when the game ships and I have a chance to play it for myself. The title of this article should've just been "Checkout 20 Minutes of Raw Gameplay from Sea of Thieves"

As for Sea of Thieves, it honestly looks like one of those games which is going to look better watching planned out videos of it, showing the features you can do with friends while in reality with actual friends it's not going to play out the same.

It's kind of like those trailers for co-op or team based games like COD, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon Wildlands where the team are going in together like a proper unit and working together to reach the goal but in reality it will look nothing like that because honestly friends can be dicks.

We know very little about the game to assume anything at this point. I doubt all there is too it are pirate ship battles.

Any game built around a team concept online can be very frustrating if the people you play with are not going into it with the same attitude. If you do get the right people nothing beats it and it can be very fun.

I do think the game can be played by yourself which is good too. It does look like the best thing rare has done in many years.

My concern with this game is what happens if it turns out like Evolve? Not everyone is going to like every role, and you really need a team working together to make the most of this game. Now I love games like Sid Meier's Pirates and Sea Dogs, so this game really looks interesting to me, I just worry about the necessity of having a full team with no weak links to be able to enjoy it.

the devs have said you can go it alone with a smaller boat.,but it will be more difficult to take on bigger boats/ships.

Right, that's my problem. Its effectively like WoW, or other MMOs. You can go it alone in the beginning but for the full experience / end game content you need a solid group of people who play regularly as a team, and not a bunch of randos. I would have been just fine with an Assassin's Creed IV type experience, expanded a little with Rare's touches.

New IPs often need a boost for marketing. Especially as this game most probably won't sell as well as a traditional FPS. The viewer can dictate for themselves if the footage is actually "absolutely fantastic" or not themselves - the title just draws them in.

I guess...I mean the ship battles looked good but I don't know. Maybe because I'm just not into pirates so this doesn't appeal to me. Now if they had some kind of One Piece spin to it then we can talk.

Yeah I agree, pirates never really moved the needle much for me on the whole, and I'm not an mp gamer. I did dig AC Black Flag though so if this had some kind of story component for someone who wanted to go solo then that could be cool.

I think more than anything SoT isn't conducive to being shown in unedited shorter bursts...IGN's video from yesterday was pretty rough, 10 minutes of a dude just wandering around a ship, falling into the water, then like 2 minutes at the end of a battle. That video didn't really do the game any favors, but once it's heavily populated I'm sure it could be a blast for people that dig games of its ilk. The visuals sure are pretty.

That's perfectly alright that you like an anime. ( I personally dont watch them and didn't get past episode 3 of One Piece)
But we don't need an Open World One Piece game. There are already some One Piece games.

Fun fact: they pulled the water tech from Sea of Thieves to do all the water in Forza Horizons 3.

I saw a video where a guy jumped on the enemy ship and they couldn't even attack him. They need to put some kind of combat system because not being able to board enemy ships and kill them is weak.
