Metro| Shigeru Miyamoto researching VR for Nintendo

Nintendo has admitted that it is investigating VR, but has concerns about affordability and how long the games can be played for.

Null19802875d ago

Good, as long it doesn't only come in just the colors red and black.

pcz2875d ago

i think a new metroid prime would be perfect for vr

TheTwelve2874d ago

Ah, the Virtual Boy...one of many failed VR attempts in the past. I don't have much faith in the current attempts either, by any company.

Kalebninja2874d ago

So you think 20 years of tech advancements and huge companies investing in it isn't enough?

NotoriousWhiz2874d ago

Was it enough for 3d games?

Zeldafan642873d ago

I don't want VR even if a company invested a trillion dollars into it.

TheTwelve2873d ago

No, but I'll gladly be proven wrong.

pcz2874d ago

i think the problem with the current incarnations is the price. i mean, for peripherals, they are shockingly expensive.

i think miyamoto is right to be concerned bout price.

ApocalypseShadow2874d ago (Edited 2874d ago )

I think the prices are fine. You get what you pay for. New technology isn't cheap. It takes time for it to come down from continued manufacturing and perfecting.

I think gamers just expect companies to continue taking losses. Sony took a hit selling PS3 at a loss. Gave away big games with PS Plus. Gave away games when their network was attacked. Gave away free online when servers have to be maintained and watching Microsoft making money hand over fist for 10 years of charging.

They deserve to make profit off of PS4. Profit off of PSN. And now, PSVR is being sold at a profit. That keeps the company healthy to produce more content and take more risks.

The results of profit is that the core non VR games look outstanding like GOW, uncharted, days gone, Detroit, spiderman, etc. That takes money to produce.

Errorist762873d ago

I get you didn't experience PS1 being a thing...

The twelve, could you explain to us how Virtual Boy was VR beyond putting your face up close to the unit?I mean, it should have been called "3D Boy."

No sensors.
No motion tracking.
No way to wear the headset.
No motion controllers.
No immersion.

Nothing like VR. It seemed more like a precursor to the Nintendo 3DS since both produce a 3D effect. It's just now in color instead of that poor red that was bad for the eyes.

TheTwelve2873d ago

I agree. Like I said, failed attempt. However, even the attempts in the past that you may call true VR have failed.]]

We shall see...

Zeldafan642873d ago (Edited 2873d ago )

Even though it caused me a lot of neck pain Mario Tennis and Mario Clash on the Virtual Boy were a lot of fun. I would have liked them a lot more on a regular tv though.
Never beat Mario Clash, that game was so incredibly dufficult.

Aquietguy2873d ago

Virtual Boy??????

I think we have come a long way since then.

rainslacker2872d ago

Virtual Boy wasn't really virtual reality. It was just 3D gaming. The only thing virtual about it was in the name itself.

How long the games can be played for?

No problem just use the VR SLider

gamerswin242874d ago (Edited 2874d ago )

Ppl want to give credit where its not due. Professionals and most are in consensus virtual boy was in no way virtual reality only partly in name. Sony are the first console company innovating and pushing a true vr solution and now since the other companies see it can be done thnx to Sony now thy want to jump all in lol. Kudos to Sony for showing how its done :)
