1) Actually, yes, Microsoft stated over a year ago that if BluRay won the format war, they'd create a new BluRay extrenal drive for the 360.

2) The PS3 doesn't upscale any games to 1080p, while the 360 upscales ALL games to 1080p. The PS3 is also running basically zero games in native 1080p. So in fact, not only did Microsoft "decide to do" 1080p (Ana upscaler was already in the box all along), they're doing it better than Sony is.

3) Component cables still output 1080p games AND movies just fine, and will continue to do so until the movie industry implements certain copy-protection flags- even then, only movies will be affected, and only pushed back to 1080i. The only reason to use HDMI/DVI is to get perfect 1080p movies assuming the industry someday implements those flags.

4) The Xbox 360 data port is actually capable of HDMI-compatible 1080p output at 60fps and beyond. There's really no need to release a standardized port like this at all...

5) Personally, I have two demos, 6 TV shows, 2 movies, over a dozen CDs, and tons of savegames on my 360 with room to spare. Am I the only one who thinks the larger harddrive is very nearly stupid?

In conclusion- Releasing this "Zephyr" console would be absolutely retarded unless it was a free upgrade.

If this is true, what does it matter? Some of the people in this forum have expressed interest in these add-ons, and now that we might get them everyones throw'n a fit! How many of us are really going to sell the 'BOX we have now for one with an HDMI port? Not me. All I want is the bigger HDD. dev units are black... i'm pretty sure that this is a modded xbox and that someone who was very technically savvy rebuilt their xbox to do hdmi (but perhaps not "real" hdmi because i'm not sure why in the video they would even use an adaptor... why not just use the microsoft millions to have a real 1080p hdtv there to test it on with a real hdmi cable??)

AGAIN- for anyone who's missing the party, the only real differences are:

1) An HDMI port - The current Xbox 360 is confirmed to be able to output in full digital using its current port, meaning this is an absolutely senseless addition if it is true (it's probably a dev kit or mod, as said). The only reason the current 360 doesn't output HDMI is because it just doesn't have cables. It still outputs perfect 1080p over Component cables.

2) A larger Hard Drive- Which ANY existing 360 could probably mount, meaning they'll be sold seperately for all cutomers. And to think this one is true, you only have to disregard Mirosoft's "we are not making a larger HDD" statements.

Nice! I realy hope this is true. And honesly I wouldn't dought these are official leaks; to see the public reaction. I'm sure that microsoft will come up with some sort of insentive for those people that already have an XBox 360.

Microsoft (At least the XBox division) it user driven. It has become aparent to microsoft that people would like the 360 to have something(and some people are holding back to the 360 because it does not have HDMI and a bigger hard drive).

Now that the 360 will have built-in HDMI and probably built-in wifi, better GPU and as many indicated a CPU designed for games, and have the games(Currently) What's going to be Sony's argument against the xbox 360? What will Sony fanboys say now? Last Gen I bough 3 PS2, not because I wanted to; but because I had to; they died. Now, I will replaced my XBox 360 for a good cause.

The other thing I would like to point, is that there is a misconception that it's preventing people from buying a 360 or PS3; that's that they don't think buying a next gen console (Except the wii) unless you have an HD-TV. We all know this is not true(even Sony fanboys agree with this), but I believe this is why microsoft stayed away from HDMI - to prove that it can be done through to components and VGA, while keep the production cost low and not having to delay launch until hardware production cost goes down.

There is no reason why you should be upset since most people don't have 1080P TVs and paying extra for a 360 that support it's a waste of money. Yeah, 1080P HDMI it's only required for movies (on tv's without VGA ports) where the security is enabled (which they are not at this moment). Games will not be affected by this.

Also, if you feel betrayed by microsoft it is not because the new sku will do something the old cannot do, but 1) You are a Sony fanboy and dont have an xbox 360 and therefore have no saying in this matter. 2) You know you want the new SKU and will get it anyways. 3) Don't have a TV with HDMI or 1080P but want to have it just because. 4) You would be complaining even if the new sku would include only a smaller power brick. 5) You don't have nor want a XBox 360.

Come on give it a rest. You bought a 360 to play games and the experience will be the same on all sku's. I'm also sure that a separate hdmi cable will be released for the current skus and this is prove of it.

I think this could do some harm, and some good. I don't think everyone with a current 360 would be too pleased, but then some (those with an understanding to how marketing works and how businesses work in general) won't mind at all. Current owners can do what many DS owners did when the DS Lite came out... trade it in and pay a little extra. No biggie. This may attract some additional customers, but I think it would mostly just let MS say, "see? we do HDMI, too!". I wouldn't mind the bigger hard drive, but I don't really need it. I already have TiVo, and the movies get deleted after watching them since I can't keep them. Then there are arcade games, game saves, and demos. I still have 7-10 gigs still available, depending on how many demos have been downloaded.

Nope not true the outputs digital, the big chunky box at the end of the cables switches the signal and it does allow some digital signals to come through on a different path if you bought the HD cables, there the one's that have the digital audio plug. lol

I was just thinking about this... and if it was true this is the reason they might do it....

if they release this on a new xbox 360 they may beable to get away with not packaging hdmi cables and keep the cost of sales low but they could still release hdmi cables for original users (that work on the standard output)

my problem with this mod is that there is no output for optical cables, which is what i prefer to use. it seems you'd have to have your normal connectors plugged in along with the hdmi (which doesn't look like it will fit) and this doesn't seem as clean as microsoft normally has their outputs on xbox.

I guess this dude likes to play without sound. It would be neat to get all this stuff, but unnecessary. Hopefully MS can just keep working on great games and ideas and not try to make it all about hardware. Those few 'techies' who have to have all the greatest gear do not make a big enough dent on the market to try to change a system to capture their dollar. 360 needs to be more mainstream and not such a hardcore gamer or techie; kinda like how the wii is doing now with people.

MS has already confirmed that the 360 outputs digital. Therefore the '360 can't do HDMI' argument is completely false. MS has repeatedly stated that if there is a demand for HDMI, they'll make a cable for it. It's just that simple. My bet is that the 360 in the video is modded, not manufactured by MS. Is there a chance MS will release a new 360 version with an HDMI port built in? Possibly. Can current 360s be upgraded? Yes. Therefore, the only reason why MS would release a new version is to have a new SKU with a new price. However, no current 360 owner gets left out in the cold. I'm sure a bigger HDD would be compatible with current 360s as well, as the HDDs are detachable.

I think it should be plainly obvious by now that MS designed the 360 as an easily upgradable piece of equipment. This has three benefits. 1) The consumer can pick and choose what they want as far as features and price. 2) MS can continue to compete with whatever the competition comes up with. 3)There is money to be made in sales of peripherals.

If this was real he would have had sound for the system sure you can mod it for dvi. So I guess for sound through dvi vid you still have to use other port? You will see that the AV out port was moved up and look at the molding around the HDMI port and you will see factory like molding!!! This is obviously an early proto type and it will be released this summer! Remember I told you all so! Just look at the case molding, Just like you all didn`t believe the early 360 pics either!

a 120 gig HDD would be awesome...that way you can keep buying those movies for years and years...you won't have to erase your demos or nething. My ipod alone has 52 gigs of music/videos/pictures/games. If i transferred that to a 360...there wouldn't be much room left. With 120 gigs...it'd work perfectly. They're making up for not being able to hook up an external harddrive...effectively. HDMI would be cool...but my system already DOES that!

Dude, i'm VERY satisfied with my PS3. It's sitting on shelves because Sony put a LOT of them out right before 2007. That, and the bad press it's getting. Now, look at FN:R3. It looks WAY better on the PS3...but every news article on this site says it looks a lot better on the 360. MS playing dirty? I honestly think so...

It does not have built in Wi-Fi.

It is not a machine that plays games any faster, better, visually nicer. It just runs cooler, and since most of us have never had it overheat ... what is the point.

You get a bigger HD drive ... and .... you will be able to buy them on their own anyway for your current 360.

I really wish folks would so some reasearch about the AWSOME HDMI ... I have done back and forth video testing using HDMI and Component on my HD REceiver and a HDMI stand alone BR player .... as I have said ... the visual difference is "MINIMAL" a best. The "HDMI IS BETTER" margin was Sooooo small I am now back to component and run VGA on my 360. HDMI will be a means to enforce copyright laws from "THE MAN" in the ivory tower. FOr what you get in Picture quality and the cost of the cable ... to me ... HDMI is a big joke and not needed. 360 outputs a GEORGEOUS presentation using the component and VGA cables.

I also so not understand all the early adopters of the 360 being so pissed off. Guys ... relax ... you have been having a blast playing the next gen games for OVER A YEAR NOW !!! Part of the disadvantage of being "THE FIRST" with new technology is we are the ones that work out the bugs and "MAYBE" have a better system come out (and I use the term better very loose) we should understand this. I know I do.

If this is a reason for you to deny yourself of the 360 or decide to HATE MS because of this .... well I guess the entire tech world is against you.

And don't forget what you do lose with HDMI: optical sound. Some may not care but I do. GoW blows whole's thru the roof on my digital 7.1 system but it pretty lacking with analog sound.

I like Xbox live service and MS warranty service. You know what would be cool if there were no Xbox 3, that the hardware would be service based. Let me explain we pay the fee like Xbox live and MS updates the 360 hardware at regular intervals, they send us an email and say would you like an updated 360 with new chips, disk drives whatever they want to cram in there yearly. Of course they need to update the core unit every three years to satisfy those who can’t afford the service, even though gaming is an expensive hobby. Anyway it would be a way to keep console gaming updated tech wise, instead of having to put out a new one every five years. Say I couldn’t afford a certain kind of new HDTV that came out for at least another 2 years, ok I don’t need to update my 360 just yet but when I do get the TV give MS a call and get my new compatible 360 a week later. If they can put up great services like Live and live anywhere I know they could do it. I mean once you pay the retail price for the 360 then pay for live and warranty, you got some fantastic gaming and I wouldn’t mind paying a little extra for the latest and greatest hardware in my console.

I dont buy this at all, This looks like some kid in his bedroom with a fancy homemade mod ..I doubt MS would introduce a new version of a 360 AFTER selling 10m of what will become 'old' models through a shabby homemade video. This is probably just like all the rest of the so called rumours ie: someone clever git has took his 360 apart and modded & done god knows what else to it showed it off to the world and then some other brightspark thats seen the vid has labelled it the Xbox 360 Mark 2 !

I have been reading this and have noticed oh so slight biasness (hope that is correct) in posts on the topic of this new and amazing x360. (NOT!!!)

Ok, back to my opinion about this new 360. I noticed that the back of it looks amazingly well made and clean for a mod, but isn't that the goal of making a mod. Secondly I believe it is indeed a mod due to no sound, and that cute little plushy beside the monitor (also know as the Linux penguin).

On the issue of it being better. I think it will. I do not believe all of you x360 owners will get a credit, but you will most likely get a fair trade-in on you current hardware. Just look at the PS2 slimline. I would be surprised if there wasn't some kind of HDMI cable released, although if they don't I would bet it would be because of the new HDMI version 1.3 coming out, and there might be some conflicts with the v1 of the x360. I don't know to much about the new HDMI so they could very well put 1.3 on the old x360.

On the topic of adding more into the same amount of space. I think it would be a bad move to add anything other than a bigger hard drive. A new feature like integrated wireless or HDdvd could really mess up the v2 and cooling in it. Just look at what happened with the ps2 slimline, more in the same amount space is not always better. I like the x360 just the way it is. It is an amazing system. This coming from a ps3 fan. I hope it wasn't too biased

Now the whole point of the hdmi will be to have 1080p capabilities right? Why not just buy the psyclone vga adapter(has optical output unlike the bs unit in this video) and then but an adapter to use either dvi or hdmi? It's that simple!
