2. I am not justifying what PS3 owners are doing here at all. Some PS3 owners take it too far. I understand that. I am not justifying their actions at all whatsoever. Just for your information as you know nothing about me outside of this site i was an avid ps2 owner, i defended it.
i didn't like the xbox until i got one then i liked them both.
Had no hate for either one, even after my ps2 broke and sony didn't help. i might have bought a ps3 at its inflated price had it had bc in it. not now.

I pretty much stopped listening to the Warzone. I was a big fan of it and used to listen too it weekly, but now I just look forward to the HipHopGamer Show every Sunday and watch that. A lot of people (mostly Xbox fans) may not like HipHopGamer, but I like to hear his opinions.

But anyways, in regards to a 360 price drop, of course it could make it harder for Sony... but it doesn't automatically mean that the 360 will trump the PS3 because the 360 has already been at a pretty low price point this whole year at $279 (just $30 bucks more than the Wii), yet the PS3 has managed to outsell the Xbox 360.

But, the fact that the Xbox 360 will have hit $199 so soon tells me 1 of 2 things: 1.) Microsoft is going to introduce a new Xbox at least in the next 2 years or 2.) Microsoft is willing to take a loss on the Xbox 360 Arcade in order to possibly regain dominance in the U.S.

But even then, there's Blu-Ray drives and 6 axis which can act as extra individual controls on the Six-Axis/Dual Shock 3.

Even then, its still proven MS haven't managed to fix the RROD.

As a new consumer, you have to consider;

So do you want a robust console that gives just gives what you need built in or for free to be happy at the time of purchase once out the box? (PS3)

or a console that expects you to feed it like a chick with money, until it dies; for services which are 'better' that will only serve as a temporary solution for gaming? (360)

Do you still see services fixing 360's internal hardware once the console is past due?
Because nearly all other consoles in the past, cartridge systems or cd/dvd drives died.
Not the whole machine.

The fact is, second hand 360's won't exist as a collectible console in the future because they won't be working and nobody, or there will be a slim chance of services repairing them, because I see MS moving on and forgetting about it and MS can only fix the RROD.

I have very valid reasons for disliking MS, even though I own it for the games. Call me a hypocrite, but look at it that way.
Forget about the 10 year lifecycle thing or RROD and think;

"Is my 360 still going to work or able to be quickly repaired by a service in the future once its next to my Snes, Megadrive, PS1, PS2, XBOX, GC and Dreamcast?"

Sorry, I don't see MS spending money on fixing RROD'd 360s in the near future after they move on.

I see the PS3 working just fine, except maybe harddrive failure or a dead Blu-Ray drive which by then; both could be easily fixed for a small cost.

The Wii will be the victor in a console that can be easily fixed, because except from the DVD-Drive everything else should work fine and be easily replaced or peripherals made by retro specialists.

you forgot to add, "thanks to a one year head start by Microsoft." Please tell me which has sold more units so far this year: PS3 or 360? You can hold on to that one year lead forever, fanboy, but the facts are that the 360 has been slipping this year. The PS3 hasn't really done anything amazing this year, and the 360 was "supposed" to win last month, but time after time the PS3 has either been ahead or kept it close. You are right about competition being good though, crabs. There is no doubt about that. I think I may buy another Wii for my girlfriend even though I sold my one from launch, just so I can have the trifecta lol.

Juuken: Yes, I don't want to see the PS3 disappear but I would love to see $ony's console domination end. I have no problem with Nintendo taking that crown, it doesn't have to be MS.

Cajun: Yes, I do see them fixing it beyond the machines life. Even more now that they've got such a bad hardware rap. Your whole second hand theory is assuming that MS will never get the hardware fixed in the console this gen. First off, nothing is %100 reliable and as the machines get more complex I don't think they last like a Nintendo SNES solid-state cartridge based games machine do. The Falcon chipset has been reducing the problems significantly and when the Jasper chipset arrives in Sept I believe the failure rate will be in line with any other electronics device.

I find it funny you mention the PS2 because I knew a lot of people who had DRE issues but did that stop people from supporting it? Even when, unlike MS, Sony didn't extend a warranty or offer to fix them for free they made these people pay for it.

I will not deny that MS screwed up with it's hardware but I think it's unfair(especially after the warranty extension) to say that MS is going to drop the system with no support at all. Yes, the Xbox1 was dropped but you have to look at the whole situation with that console and the internals that MS did not own. They did not make that mistake this time and own all the components of the 360 so I can see them supporting it.

butter: Yes, the PS3 has been outselling the 360 but MS and the Xbox brand are the underdogs here. They are going up against Sony who've been in the game a lot longer. MS needs every advantage it can get to order to compete, that is business. I am not claiming the 360 is winning the console war I am simply stating where we are at today and that is the PS3 is in last place. Is it not? I feel MS are buying some time and getting the cost down and trying to find their "sweet spot" to open the flood gates to the mass consumer. The number's that Sony are posting above MS are not that significant. If you look at the the numbers the Wii has been pulling, those are the numbers you need to close the gap in any meaningful time-frame. I cannot see the future, fanboy, so who knows what is going to happen. That is why I am talking about the present and in the present the 360 is beating the PS3.

I'm glad you see the logic in my comment and chose not to ignore it, but the fact is theoretically;

IF Microsoft DON'T fix the RROD this year, or as you say during this generation and it just appears to be an over-looked hardware failure that is so deep in the hardware architecture it can't be fixed unless a model of the 360 is a clean new slate.

I don't think Microsoft will be able to support the cost of fixing the consoles as Sony didn't fix PS1 during PS2 and it has been mentioned the consumer pleasing extended warranty has been costing Microsoft a lot and been stunting them from gaining real profit in the market.

I bought my 360 in the summer of 2007, I have no idea what chip model it is; As you imagine, due to the RROD being infamously spread in the press, the internet, the public and happening to friends wherever overblown or not;
the system should not be doing it at retail and I am cautious that mine will do it at any possible time in its lifetime, it overheats, it sucks all the oxygen out of my room, its DVD-Drive noisy as hell, the power block leaves small burn marks on surfaces after being used for a long time; the internal clock resets when unplugging it, messing up all my XBOX game saves like the problem the Dreamcast had.

Never ever have I had such fear of the future of one of my consoles.

The fact that you are counting on Microsoft to fix the RROD until the RROD is dead is just, well, a bit of a leap of faith.

Why exactly would MS support old users of a old console in the future, say next gen? It already costs them too much to fix it now and has proven to of lost them some real market profit.

If MS DO fix the RROD during this gen; then good. Good for the consumer, good for Microsoft, but since the numerous chipsets and SKUs have indeed been failing as Microsoft claims and attempts to solve the RROD, what makes you believe them anymore?

Sony moved their ass with problems, delays and broken promises in this last year, why hasn't Microsoft done this with hardware after this many versions?

Why hasn't PS3 been having these problems except from dead Blu-Ray drives, occasional hard drive failures and some completely messed up firmware updates from dumb people from the top of the company?
The 360 base even had to put up with the same firmware problems during the peak of its dominance to date just a few years ago.

Why is the PS3 proven to be quieter, crash less often and just generally do everything just good enough to suffice for the average user?

I understand your faith for some things, but sadly you can't ignore, for a new consumer, the PS3 seems to be the most sensible purchase for value, reliable hardware, free services, content and keeps the consumers happy at the moment.

But again, I fail to understand, why pay for something more or less the same, minus the bells and whistles are justified when someone else is offering a comparable service for completely free like PCs do?

Also, you have to look at Microsoft Game Studios and compare the popular IPs, franchises and first party in-house developers compared to the opposition whom have been longer in the game.

You have to admit, I have some sensible and logical reasons for preferring my PS3 as a reliable gaming/multimedia system.

'Sony Fanboy' I may be, but only in value and quality.

And Cajun Chicken had a very good point. I would have bought the 360 first if it wasn't for those issues. I'm holding off until Microsoft *truly* fixes those problems and they don't lie about it. For now, my PS3 and the PSP I'm getting will be enough for me. I'm also waiting for a *true* pricecut and not a half-assed one. Although...this pricecut doesn't seem to be helping them much. :/

Juuken: My hate for $ony stems from owning a PS2 that broke and them telling me to take a hike when I feel they should of fixed their broken system. MS stepped up and are fixing systems for free. Also, the arrogance from Sony with "people will get a second job so they can afford a PS3" is just a bunch of BS. Sony are a lot different now adays because they are humbled at last place but they have not always been like this.

Cajun: You make some good points and I'm sorry you've had problems with your 360. I've not had any issues with my 360 and things like burnmarks from the power supply and problems with the internal clock sound like one messed up system. Once the PS3 get's going and the fans kick on, it is definately loud. My buddies PS3 started folding and it was like jet airplane.

I believe MS is going to have the hardware problems resolved with the Jasper chipset in Sept. I actually think the Falcon revisions have solved much of the problem but the Jasper should seal the deal.

I am not going to make excuses for the bad hardware because it is unacceptable. It seems your reason for hating the 360 because of hardware issues is simiular to my hate of the PS3 because of PS2 problems. I actually owned a Xbox1 and a PS2 last gen since I've thrown away my PS2 but still have a bunch of games. My Xbox1 is still going strong.

I've had plenty of hands-on time with the PS3 and it doesn't have the games libary and media integration that appeals to me. While the PS3 online service is free I have no problems with paying $4 a month for XBL and it is proven to be a superior service. At the basic level PSN does offer free online games but there are a bunch of little things that make me prefer the XBL over PSN. XBL is a matured online service while Sony is still working on it.

You are right, Sony has a huge first party network of studios and MS doesn't. They seem to have different philosophies with studios but let me say that the 360 catalog has shown to have more diversity and that MS does whatever it can to get games on the platform. Just look at all the lost exclusives the 360 has gained. I think any 360 gamer will tell you that the system does not lack in quality games. While I hear more complaints than not about Sony's lack of games.

I will end my comment here since it's getting long. I take back my fanboy comment because you own a 360 and seem like you have given it a chance. If you want to debate/discuss further please feel free to PM me. +bub for the great discussion

If I had something that broke and someone told me to take a hike, I would have been pissed too. But you're wrong about Microsoft. They never stepped up to fix the problem. Instead, they used warranties and swept the problem under the rug. If they had every intention of fixing the problem correctly, they should have redesigned the 360.

Giving out warranties is not fixing the problem.

Yes, Sony has never been like that-humble. But has Microsoft been humble? You have to look at it from both perspectives. Both companies have been guilty of boasting and that's why their boasting caused them to make mistakes in the end.

So basically your response to me held no weight at all. The 360 is beating the PS3 in only one category, all-time sales. The PS3 has been pwning the 360 in monthly sales, weekly sales, YTD sales for 2008, and they have sold a pretty large amount more this year. I guess we are only talking about the US, right? We all know that the PS3 pwns Europe, Aus, and Japan.

Really enjoyed the show. I think the price cut will do a lot for the 360 in the USA. Europe experienced some type of drop but it didn't seem to do much. MS has a huge battle fighting against Sony's brand name and there years of a headstart in the console biz. The fact we are now going on 2 years in the game and Sony is still in last place you can see MS is making headway against their closest rival.

Nintendo is so far out there, they won this console gen. It's a wrap. Sony will just continue to stretch the timeline (just you wait.. blah blah blah) until they can claim better sales and well I can see MS launching a new console in another few years and probably say they beat Sony when they do. But neither of them can deny Nintendo.

Just look at the Wii. A sole example of a cheap-price tag winning their company 1st place in overall sales. It's pretty much proven that a cheaper console will always sell more initially before quality becomes a decision-making factor.

PS3 owners had something worth fighting for because their console was being discriminated against unfairly. Now the situation is totally changed and alot of N4G'ers won't even approve articles that circle a positive or critical opinion of the 360, yet they'll approve dupe articles that talk about the PS3 in a good way.

Because the 360 doesn't have any good exclusive games coming out this year. There has been little information on Alan Wake, so I cannot honestly say anything about it until I try it for myself. Banjo Kazooie nuts and bolts........I watched a trailer for it, and to be honest, watching a bear driving a pink car around wasn't all that exciting. Too human, many people are saying this game is a flop, but like Alan Wake, I can't pass judgement on a game until I try it for myself. Good thing I have friends who own a 360.

I think the price cut will not affect sony. Due to the fact that I know a lot of people with 360s' so that means "maybe" they will buy a ps3 this coming winter. It does not hurt to have two consoles.

I don't really think it's gonna make a big difference.
The Xbox 360 Pro was lowered to $300 and Sony still beats the 360.
In every region prices for certain things are different.
In some places PS3 is more expensive even more there then in America.
ex.) Australia PS3 = $700 and it's still outsells every console in that region.
In Japan PS3 can be like $500 for the 40Gb and it's still selling like crazy.
In Europe PS3 is like $600 and it's still outselling the 360 even now.
Maybe in America it'll make a difference w/ the 360 being $199 but w/ the rest of the world no one really cares.
After Gears of War 2 fades people will completely forget the 360.
PS3 came out in Japan a few months before then in America and it wasn't until one year later 2007 the rest of the world got the PS3.
PS3's been out in Japan for 2.5 years in Japan, only 2 years in America, and only 1.5 years in Europe.
I feel Sony's biggest mistake was not really it's price but not releasing it in every country at the same time in other words a worldwide release.
Sony if you think about it has a lot more to look forward to right now then the 360 and has improved the most technology wise and game wise then it's other competitors.
Sony is gonna release blu-ray players this Winter for only $200 as a result of that I feel Sony is gonna have to lower it's price on the PS3 at least by $50 to keep the demand equal.
So imagine being able to get the new 80Gb PS3 this Winter for $350 and the 160Gb for $450 w/ it's exclusives it's gonna be insane.

Gamers should unite instead of hating on each other and try to force these developers to deliver on their promises and make the games they promise w/ the features we want.

I really think this GTA IV DLC for the 360 is kinda cool kinda a rip off $20 but I hope it's good after being delayed so much.

This Fall is gonna leave some dents in our pockets.
I'm gonna get Bioshock, Bionic Commando, Little Big Planet, Dead Space, Resistance 2, Prince of Persia, and Socom Confrontation for the PS3.
Also I want to get Left 4 Dead, Gears of War 2, Crysis Warhead, and Spore for my PC so gaming for both my PS3/PC is gonna be insane.

Gaming is truly at it's best this year especially w/ the PS3/PC and next year will only be better.

I personally think Microsoft should continuously lower the price of the 360 in Japan just to see at what point if any they will really sell over there...that way, if they don't sell no matter how cheap they are Microsoft can avoid wasting time on Japan altogether on their next time around.

Now to me (no fanboyism intended, just to make that clear) there are two reasons for price drops
1. it is now easier and cheaper to make the parts to make the specified product and thus pass the cost onto the consumer

and 2. out of desperation because of bad marketing, bad publicity(quality not up to consumer standards, better hardware available, etc) or there is nothing to push the unit into purchasing it. and thus lower the cost to try and woo the cunsumer to get as much money out of it as possible

I believe the xbox 360 falls in the second category at the moment, the tactic they used when the 360 was first released was put out as many games in the shortest amount of time, but in doing so they have nothing left to sell to the consumer and therefore have a dry spell in gaming, of course they will recover but in doing so they will lose a lot of customers to rival companies

I really thought the show was awesome. It was my first time listening! I really love listening to Hiphop smash that Torance guy. I'll be listening to all the old shows for more. Torance does defend the PS3 sometimes though. No more cheesy 1up podcast for me.
