Naughty Dog Writer, "Uncharted 2 was one of the hardest games we'd ever made"

Members of the Naughty Dog Development Team took to Twitch.tv to show off Uncharted:The Nathan Drake Collection for their live Uncharted Moments series. During the live stream they played and discussed Uncharted 2 in length including what they felt about the games development and success.

The result for the hard work resulted in being top 3 games of last gen(last of us also in list) and setting bench mark for Action adventure game where top games like TR re-inventing itself to be more like uncharted.

Uncharted 2 is a masterpiece of cinematic storytelling and gameplay. It was an amazing experience that will always stick out for me as one of the greatest games to come out of the PS3 era.

TLOU stands along side Uncharted 2 as one of the greats of the last console generation, in my opinion. I can't bring myself to put one over the other because they are such amazing games in their own right. Naughty Dog is such a talented group of people.

Yeah they're the best last gen has to offer no doubt about that.

That said, they're both very different games, one's lighthearted and the other as dark as it gets.

Personally, I'd pick TLoU as 1st then U2 as second because I prefer darker stories/settings.

Actually I disagree with this, dispite the similarities between Uncharted and Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider does things enough differently for it to feel like a completely different game. Such as the fact that you can level up guns and equip skills in Tomb Raider. Uncharted seems to bring even newer innovative features such as the huge open level we saw in that 15 min gameplay. However, I do wish Uncharted got modding weapons added as a feature, like in the Last of Us.

What Tomb Raider does that is different is redundant exploring and an upgrade system that you would expect from mundane games like AC. It never needed these things to be great but these little gimmicks certainly make it less obvious that Uncharted largely has the upper hand. They are filler additions that are not really innovative or necessary when you consider the scope of Uncharted's cinematics and presentation. It's more than a game with exp and an open world. It's an experience.

You know I've never understood why you have to level up in TR. That right there snatched me away from world they created. Select to become either a hunter or surviver. Select to be able to aim 10% better. Games like TR doesn't need upgrades.

Still remember the first day I downloaded the beta with no idea what it was. Then when I played it I was like, ''What the hell is this game?'' First game that played like a movie of all time to me, and a proof of how much gaming has progressed.

I can see why, Naughty Dog. Uncharted 2 is a masterpiece!!!
It must be really hard to make a game great, but to make a masterpiece, I Can't even imagine how much blood, sweat & tears were shed to create Uncharted 2.

To get Uncharted 2 to look like a generational "graphical leap" going from Drake's Fortune to Uncharted 2 was an achievement in itself. Add in the snow tech, all the setpieces ect... I applaud you ND.
So, in the end, that hard work paid off. Same with The Last of Us. Naughty Dog thought people were gonna hate the game, but with all the amazingly talented people working at Naughty Dog they were able to create another masterpiece with TLoU. Heck, The Last of Us "in my opinion" is ND's best game ever.

We were all used to heavy actions scenes at this time too. They just did it in a way that wasn't comparable to anything. I'll never forget this game.

Uncharted 2 put gaming in general to a much higher level. That's how great it is.

Re-play factor is always a memorable experience.

How? It was a story driven third person action adventure game with a decent multiplayer experience. At least when I completed Uncharted: Drake's Fortune I was left with a bit of a "wow" factor. I don't think I've played the campaign more than once. Multiplayer at least attracted my and a few other people's attentions for quite a bit.

This makes no sense lol. The Last of Us feels NOTHING like Uncharted. So don't belittle either of those games. Just because they're both 3rd person shooters? I guess they both feel like Gears of War and Resident Evil?

It is certainly a great game and deserves all of the praise. Putting a lot of work into something usually means something good from it. Not always, but in the case of Uncharted 2, that clearly shows.

I love Drake and Uncharted but I think there are less GREAT games on PS3 that deserves more recognition

Folklore as an examlpe, it is a great game in regards its time when it came out, no more than that...

Trophy patch would have ignited interest in it too IMO just like how ND sparked interest in the Uncharted series with the trophy patch for Uncharted DF!

Yeah, same here. Te demo felt not that good due to the Sixaxis controlls and the part of the game they chose...anyway I got it since I liked the style and concept...REALLY HAPPY I DID

They actually patched the Sixaxis controlls, that's the update you got at the start and sixaxis controlls worked great in the game.

I even purchased the DLC...probably first DLC on PS3, really really beautiful game in many ways...a little title that saw daylight thanks to SONY Japan...had its loading issues, early title...you can almost tell SONY never expected to make big money but rather released it for love to games.

Amazing how Sony exclusives got so many awards recently with games like Uncharted 2, The Last of Us, LittleBigPlanet and Journey.
The studios are really talented.

I think it's because uncharted 2 was such a huge leap over part 1 and part 3 wasn't that huge a jump over part 2.

In critics reviews at the time UC3 was rated very highly. But it did have strange shooting to start with, it's a bit less cohesive because of the jumps in locations, it puts you too many fist fights, young Nate appears to have grey hair, the difficulty goes from average to very difficult with little warning, it's a less traditionally romantic game than part 2 (it's more like bromances in part 3), it doesn't have a tank chasing you , it has guys in black suits after you which either feels too sinister or not exotic enough, UC2's city areas and the lushness of Tibet made the game feel on another level. All that said, I prefer UC3s puzzle sections [UC2s are so unlikely and overblown that they feel like filler), UC3 has great parkour, the boatyard is tough and unfriendly but epic, and UC2 didn't have enough Sully, probably deliberately so that we miss him and so that they can fit all the other characters and romance in. In the 1st game I just thought who's this guy talking to Indy like that. Now I like Sully a lot. Hey, what can happen to anyone in 'A Thief's End'. Uh oh. It won't be Nate who dies if anyone does.
