Bloodborne Review | IGN

IGN:
There’s incredible power to Bloodborne. It’s not just an amazing dance of dodges and swipes through encounters that often push the limits of reflexes and endurance, it’s a thought-provoking experience that’s wormed its way into my mind and melted my resolve. But through perseverance, patient growth, and determined skill, it’s proved itself an unconventional adventure that ultimately gives much more than it takes – which at times can be a staggering cost. By the end, the only frustrations that don’t turn to triumphs are the technical ones. After more than 60 hours of grappling with its terrors, monsters, and the environment itself, I’m left dumbfounded by Bloodborne’s capability to draw powerful emotions from me, and make me earn the successes that I’ll remember for years to come.

Bank holiday weekend. I finally get to enjoy this. Tears will be shed, blood will be split and my virginity secured. I can't wait!

Agreed!....I have been trying my absolute best to avoid walkthroughs and Boss guides just so I can go in fresh.

Walker3359d ago

I expected 9.8 or 10 out of 10 !

I think the game would have received those kind of scores if it had faster load times, less dropped frame rate at points and less lag online. With the next patch coming(and it delivers like everyone hopes) I think it would be as close to the game everyone expected it to be. It really is amazing.

Perjoss3359d ago

The dropped frames might be a co-op / pvp thing only, I've not really noticed it playing on my own. I know that Digital Foundry has a video showing the frames dipping below 30, but the game feels pretty smooth to me overall.

The only time I've noticed a small stutter is when you drop down onto that roof just after you arrive in Old Yharnam, but there is no combat going on at that moment so it fine.

goldwyncq3359d ago

The complaints on frame rate drops are exaggerated. I could count the number of times it happened on me with one hand.

Unoriginalplayer3359d ago

Honestly I didn't experience any significant frame rate drops until I started doing the Chalice Dungeons. Amazing game nonetheless! I just got my platinum for it!

This is IGN unless your a big publisher like activision or EA they wont give you premium scores. They have survived as one of the biggest sites on the web by upping review scores for a price. If you don't pay you get a down graded score. It never used to be this way but IGN sold out a long time ago and fairly shortly into the ps3/360 generation. It's why all there best staff and reviewers left as they wanted dignity. They review the games fairly but have no say on the actual final score IGN say the score based on who the game belongs to.

Its why they give COD a 9/10 every year as a minimum..

axerated3359d ago

I dunno, I'd say 9.1 is a pretty premium score to be fair

dcj05243359d ago

That's why I end the video before the score. Their reviews are well written but the scores are not

DOMination-3358d ago

Definitely worth at least 9.5 but i guess we can say thats the real score if we add back igns "Sony tax"

Jdoki3359d ago

I hopefully have a copy of this waiting on my doormat for when I get home tonight.

Fishy Fingers3359d ago

Had it since last Friday and only just beat the second boss. A lot of the Easter wkend will be dedicated to trying to complete it.

First 'souls' game I've played and absolutely in love with it.

How about sequels instead of just replaying the same games with better performance and fidelity?

I would’ve taken a Dead Space 4 over Dead Space 1 Remake, especially knowing the sales on 1 Remake killed anything for the future.

xHeavYx12d ago

I agree, but there are some games that would really benefit from the new tech though, like the first 2 InFamous games. Some of the old Tenchu games (for us old people)

darthv7213d ago

No remasters needed... things can be upgraded with post release patches and DLC. There should be more new games or at least sequels that people have been asking for. Give me Bloodborne 2 over a remaster any day.

anast13d ago

I agree. But, sadly, at this point, I would day 1 a Bloodborne remake or remaster.

neutralgamer199213d ago

There are many new games being released monthly so there is space for remakes and remasters

MinnesotaFatts13d ago

You say that, but the only way I can get 60fps on Bloodborne is with a cracked console.

D0nkeyBoi13d ago

This is the most boring console generation yet. I can only ever find new games on Steam. PS5 and especially Xbox are boring right now. Less more remakes please.

anast13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

I enjoy renting a new janky CRPGs on PC from time to time. But, I've been playing new games on the PS5 since it came out, and a lot of those games people want to come to PC because the game selection sucks over there.

Fishy Fingers13d ago

PC game selection sucks?

Come on bro, its cool to like your console but but no need for the obvious passive aggressive comments. PC and Nintendo are basically the only platforms with exclusives these days. PC is getting all the big console (PS5/XB) games sooner or later.

anast13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

All the CRPGs I care to play/rent have come to console for the most part. No need to use my gaming PC much these days. Now, those old games are severely overpriced on console which would be a point to argue.

slayernz12d ago

what you on about mate???? lol, i never said anything about AAA only being on console, i replied to original post from donkey saying heaps of games out there, ....just chill out bud

slayernz13d ago

think you should open your eyes mate, there are a ton of games to play, i havent played a so called 'AAA' game in about a year, been having way too much fun with indies

anast13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

I play Indies on console. My eyes are open. You might need the eye opening if you think only AAA games are on console.

Friendlygamer13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

Remasters are interesting for less accessible titles, things like silent hill 4 the room, alundra, viewtiful joe... remastering stuff that's already avaliable is a bit of a waste. I would love a kings field/shadow tower collection

truthBombs13d ago

A simple update or port on more powerful hardware is enough. Improve framerates to 60+ and that's good enough. I would love to play Bloodborne on Steam Deck.

anast13d ago

If they optimized Bloodborne like they did with Doom. I would have that game on every device in the house.
