Mad Max Box Art Revealed; Cancelled For PS3/Xbox 360, Releasing This September on PS4/Xbox One/PC

Mad Max has supposedly been cancelled for the PS3 and Xbox 360, but at least there's some nice box art to look at until it drops later this year.

do they have a death wish?,theyre releasing an open world action game in a period of just 3 days from MGS V.

I guess August or October would be better month ,but who knows theres probably 20 2015 releases TBC. At least it is not holidays 2015. But I hear what you are saying, I'll be playing MGS V if that article is to be believed, and nothing else. Imagine if Hello Games also decides to release No Mans Sky in Sept. September could be the new November :p

More PS3 and 360's exist then PS4's and XONE's...

Those PS3 and 360 versions are making MORE money then the next gen versions.

ie MGSV having a PS3 and 360 version along with even a PC version....

Its funding those next gen versions.

This publisher just can't afford to port to all 4, so they are just making it next gen.

Mind you...no added benefit to the PS4 or XONE version will even happen as the game isn't just jumping engines, its still going to be the port of those last gen versions.....

If they could afford to, you better believe they would still have a PS3 and 360 version.

I like some next gen only titles too, but business wise...PS3 and 360 still make more money and it makes sense to keep supporting them IF you have the money to do so on both fronts.

I'm not so sure about MGS5 yet. That releasing on 5 platforms on release day will effect it negatively. I'm not expecting a meta of over 9 for this game.

Last gen systems are holding back developers.

this. also why MGSV which is a much more bigger franchise is still going to release on PS3 and 360 even though the sales for last gen for Ground Zero were mediocre i will never understand. even the Xbox One's sales were awful. MGS V really should be a PS4 exclusive. the hype alone would get increased sales for the game.

You have the choice between spending 4 more months deceloping it and making some money back from it or cancel it and not making any money from it. If they think they make more money than what it costs to develop it for another 4 months they won't cancel it.

We also don't know in what state the PS3 and 360 version had been for Mad Max.

Plus there is a lot of contract stuff going on.

They likely can't afford the ports to those versions. Nothing good came from those games getting canned other then the publisher not spending more money...

Doubtful its because they couldn't port the game to the platforms due to money. Warner Bros is a rising publisher doing pretty well lately. Likely it was just getting problematic to fix the game on those older platforms as games on PC,PS4,XB1 can do much more graphically and it really strains the old gen versions to be optimized. Likely they have a set resolution/framerate and appearance they would have wanted to keep even on old gen and if not possible old gen versions usually get canned. Also likely it could have caused the game to get a delay to optimize the games for the older platforms.

Man I forgot about this one. I hope there isn't too much of a focus on vehicles. Would love to explore a huge open world. I think this was one of Rage's biggest issues. Not enough to do in the open world because it focused too much on driving.

Liking the look of this game but I would of preferred it if Max looked more like Mel Gibsons version of the character, the original, not leaning towards Hardy.

It gives the game a movie tie in vibe.

Honestly, that Max doesn't look anything like the Tom Hardy version. If anything it's leaning more with the Mel Gibson if you look at his outfit and sporting the double barreled gun from The Road Warrior.

Very excited for this game, love the studio and the idea seems solid.

Personally I am almost pleased they are avoiding any sort of tie-in as most movie tie-ins dont really work. The fact this is allowed to be its own thing should mean it can be more imaginative.

I have high hopes.

I agree. This makes two WB published games within the past few months that have announced the cancellation of last gen versions in this and Dying Light. They should've done the same with Shadow of Mordor considering the best aspect of that game in the nemesis system wasn't included in previous gen versions.

Some publishers are doing this simply because they can't afford to actually make both versions, mind you...those publishers that do, are saying this before the games release, ie not at announcement. Thus...the game was already being made as a port, canning the last gen game won't change that....

Neither of those games have new engines or anything, they will merely just no longer have a PS3/360 version.....thats it.

Sooo this isn't like Batman Arkham Knight, or Unity etc...because those are from the ground up, next gen ONLY engines.

The games you guys are referring to are made from ports and to be cross gen...

This actually only hurt those publishers, if they had the money, you would likely see a PS3/360 version as they are canning games they clearly planned to release to begin with.

AC Unity, Witcher 3, Batman etc had zero plans for last gen versions, they are fully next gen.

You dont know when this decision was made. They might have decided ages ago last gen machines werent fitting their vision for this game. The game has been dark for a good while. Its not impossible to think that this game will be better off for not wasting resources on last gen versions, even if its just because they have more time to polish it.

And you seem to think a next gen only game needs a next gen only engine. Thats not the case. An engine can go through a lot of refinement and a lot of different gens. Isnt Naughty Dogs engine basically the same thing, just improved and built upon? I dont think anyones doubting its power. And how long has Source Engine been around?

Its more to do with the scope and vision for the game and while I agree it would be better if they were thinking next gen only from the start, like I said, they could have made that switch a long time ago and have plenty of time to implemented the stuff they wanted to do.

This game seem like it might have some similarities in game play to Capcom's 1986 game, The Speed Rumbler.

You get chased by a bunch of rebels in your souped up car, and you get out of your car and do battle with the Baddies.

Fallout 3 was announced 6 months before its release in 2008.

Fallout 4 being at E3 this year, means this game is pretty much getting no play!

Agreed, WB games looks amazing. Not only does both game looks amazing, it has some movies elements in it, sounds n visual wise.

The camera works(along with synchronized audio) in both games is best of seen this gen. The only game I've seen done this so far is dying light but not on the same scale as the games you've mentioned.

I actually watched the first two movies over the weekend. And after found myself wondering what had happened to the game, and why we haven't seen any news.

Great to see it's still on track. From the little they've shown, it seems their doing a stellar job of translating the stark desperate feel of the second film into a game.

Everytime I see this game I think of Rage. Looks so much alike. Definitely getting it day one for PS4.
