February Cover Revealed — Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

After the rousing success of The Last of Us, Naughty Dog is putting its Uncharted series back in the limelight. The charismatic thrill-seeker Nathan Drake returns in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. This time around he's searching for a mythical pirate utopia in Madagascar, and is joined by his long lost brother, Sam. Naughty Dog introduced Sam at the PlayStation Experience expo this past December, and after a visit to the studio in Santa Monica, we have the scoop on what this mysterious man brings to the adventure.

I am beyond excited for Uncharted 4, blow me away yet again with your talent for games, Naughty Dog!

-Foxtrot3424d ago (Edited 3424d ago )

Same man :)

I do hope Sam is the person who Todd Stashwick was voicing in the very first teaser of Uncharted 4. If you look at Sam you'll see he resembles Todd more then Troy

The gameplay we've just recently saw could of been a flashback (15 years ago) when him and Nate were on good terms with one another, you have to admit Nate doesn't look as old as the one we saw in the reveal trailer when he was waking up on the beach. Maybe at the end of that level that's where Nathan leaves him to "rot in that hell hole"...then it will jump 15 years.

Whether or not he left him rotting before Drakes Fortune, Among Thieves or Drakes Deception who knows but you can't really make a good guess since we might he looks older but it could just be because the graphics have gotten a lot better and even more realistic.

He could of left him before Drakes Deception or after and then make it jump, sure it will be far into the future then our year but if ND are going to leave Uncharted for a while then who knows maybe when they come back to it (if they do) the timeline will have caught up to our own year.

DarkOcelet3424d ago

Thats actually a pretty good theory since the age difference between the E3 trailer and the gameplay looks noticeable. Why didnt i think of that.

-Foxtrot3424d ago (Edited 3424d ago )

@DarkOcelet

The only thing which throws that theory off a bit is the fact in the reveal trailer on the beach Nathan is in the same clothes and has roughly the same wounds/cuts/dirt marks etc then he does in the gameplay trailer when we meet Sam

NaughtyDog could change things, they did change stuff around during Drakes Deception, like Elena s shirt colour in one scene but who knows.

I'm just torn because on one hand I don't want Sam to be all buddy buddy with Drake as I feel that will take screen time away from Sully and Elena who we need to see more of if it's going to be the last game HOWEVER I don't want the obvious "betrayal".......how ever it would make sense if it was Nathans fault for leaving his own brother behind.

@98xpresent

Well I'm just going on what people have been calling him....it just beats writing "Nathans Brother" when referring to him.

98xpresent3424d ago (Edited 3424d ago )

His brother name is not Sam. Drakes bro says " I nearly shot your head off " and drake simply replies with "same" lol

@Foxtrot lol true

chelseapaul3424d ago

i doubt they will use different voice actors for the same character.. sams voice is troy baker in the gameplay footage.

sure todds character will be revealed within the next couple months though.. just wanna play it now! :(

BiggCMan3424d ago

@98xpresent

His name is absolutely Sam, Naughty Dog has already confirmed this. Just watch the video in the article for proof -_-

Didn't Stashwick announce on twitter back during PSX when the gameplay was released that he was in fact originally playing Nate's brother?

Edit: Found the link..

Sevir3423d ago

The interesting thing is Most of the time ND does performance capture the characters tend to look like their real person counter parts. Drake has Semblance to North. Sam however doesn't look like Baker, in fact his appearance seems more closely rendered to that of Todd... Which begs to question. With the rummage of staffing that happened back in April last year with Todd leaving the project, they :ist have kept his model and simply got Baker to fill in his place.

Super Drake Brothers 4 Unite

Nolan and Todd are good friends like Nolan and Troy. So its all good.

Uncharted 4 is the culmination of everything Naughty Dog has learned from Crash Bandicoot to The Last of Us!

WOW!

Lilrizky3423d ago

i heard this theory yesterday on podcast beyond! it's a good one

DigitalRaptor3423d ago (Edited 3423d ago )

@ -Foxtrot

I think I remember you saying something a while back about having concern that Uncharted 4 was going to be too dark, with them coming off The Last of Us. Tell me I'm not wrong?

Well good news is, that Straley has confirmed that they aren't going to make it too dark, and that it will be the light hearted Uncharted we know and love. So glad to hear this, as I want them to add new things to the formula, but not stray from what makes Uncharted a great series. Looks like it's in safe hands.

-Foxtrot3423d ago

@DigitalRaptor

I got past that fear a while ago, but it's still good to hear regardless

However with recent news on it my fears have moved onto something else. Obviously I won't ramble on here but if it ever comes up in the future I'll say it on the relevant article

Demo didn't WOW me. I wasn't blown away the way I thought I should've been. Hopefully they use the time to make the alpha build look better because I was disappointed from the jump considering they said the first trailer was in-game engine and all I saw was new foliage animation. Whoop Whoop. If this is supposed to be Drake's last adventure...BLOW ME THE HELL AWAY. Sorry if I don't dick ride like most of you

Silly gameAr3423d ago (Edited 3423d ago )

Maybe it would be best to wait until they start showing more of the game other then one small section from an early build. You could still be blown away by something that they have yet to show when the game gets closer to launch.

As for the whole d**k riding thing, people have faith in ND and they know that they'll bring a great experience like they've been doing for years. They've earned the trust of their fans. You don't have to be sorry you don't d ride as you put it, but you can be more mature about how you word it. People are excited about what U4 will add to the series. I guess other people that get excited about something coming from a studio that are known to put out quality stuff they enjoy are d riders too?

What talents?

An underwhelming shooter, with a painfully obvious linear platforming (keep tapping X) and no real puzzles.

Games like COD and UC are why videogames are gonna stay generic for a long time.

DarkOcelet3424d ago (Edited 3424d ago )

Sam looks a bit like a younger Sully but without the cool moustache. I wonder if he has the same humor as Drake. And dat picture looks awesome, Drake looks like a boss.

DigitalRaptor3423d ago (Edited 3423d ago )

Uncharted 4 is looking to be a masterpiece of gameplay and storytelling - especially with the incredible Druckley combo at the helm, and with Troy B. and Nolan N. leading the cast. If they nail the multiplayer, it will be the complete package GOTY winner, all over again. Ever since Uncharted 2 was announced, I think the anticipation leading up to each game in the series has been nothing short of euphoric in terms of hype, and this is going to be no different.

It also looks like Bruce Straley wasn't making things up when he said they've dedicated a month to Uncharted 4:

'We're making a new month called "Uncharduary" for the 2015 release! #Uncharted4' https://twitter.com/bruce_s...

GameInformer coverage of PS4's best upcoming exclusive all through the month. This is going to be such a crazy hype builder for UC4.

Walker3424d ago (Edited 3424d ago )

The E3 trailer made me think it was set a good 10 years or so after Drake's Deception. I guess that was a minor accident on ND's part to make Drake look so aged and craggy in that video, but that seemed to be what they were wanting emphasising. Now that the PSX footage is out there, I can certainly believe that A Thief's End is actually set only 3 years later.

A shame that. Would've been interesting to play as an aging, past-his-peak Nate.

best performance ever in a game

Forn3423d ago

The timeline may jump around a bit in the story of U4. Guess we'll find out soon enough!

CocoWolfie3424d ago (Edited 3424d ago )

https://www.youtube.com/wat... if you lack any faith in uncharted 4, watch this game informer cover trailer. at 1:18 youll see the sign of great things to come. *XD*

DarkOcelet3424d ago

I know it's gonna be awesome. And seeing North and Baker fist five, that was cool. I only have one question though. What the hell is Nicholas Cage poster doing in their office lol.

ltachiUchiha3424d ago

This game is going to be amazing. Cant wait to see what they show at E3. I bet it will be amazing like always.

DarkOcelet3424d ago (Edited 3424d ago )

Yup it will be.
