Did Bungie Lie About Destiny's Iron Banner?

NowGamer: "There have been a lot of complaints about Destiny’s newest event – the PvP Iron Banner mode. Bungie promised that the game mode (which is due to come off playlists on 14 October) would justify the amount of time players sunk into upgrading legendary and exotic weapons – typically an arduous and thankless task."

What!? That's great! Who would even want it to be unbalanced? What kind of loser wants to win an encounter because they grinded more?

I haven't been playing it, because despite being level 27 I'm not interest in an unbalanced playlist, but this makes me want to give it a go.

Neonridr3524d ago

Well that was the whole point to the Iron Banner. If you were happy about how it balanced everyone out then continue to play the Crucible. This was supposed to be a place where all your hard work for getting your exotics fully leveled up would pay off. Based on the video, that doesn't seem to be the case.

--Onilink--3524d ago

I dont know if he has any other videos posted, but that is complete BS.

The entire video he has another person next to him with a freaking Vex Mythoclast.

Of course he is tearing up people, its the other guy that is destroying them and he just sometimes gets the kills.

Neonridr3524d ago

@Oni - I actually wondered that myself, was he doing all the killing or were his guys doing most of the damage.

ChronoJoe3524d ago

It's not 'hard work' though. It's having too much time on your hands and grinding it out. Other people shouldn't miss out just because you want to spend your nights on Destiny.

Neonridr3524d ago

@ChronoJoe - well all those hours required to get all those ascendant materials in order to fully upgrade weapons and armor should definitely be considered work.. I don't have a problem with being rewarded for putting in the time with a game.

If anything Iron Banner feels more balanced than regular crucible matches...

Baka-akaB3524d ago (Edited 3524d ago )

In a nutshell , some have been complaining about imbalances , instead of questionning their skills as well . Even if there are indeed issues in pvp .

Then when they finally get their exotics gears and weapons , they imagined they'd get to slaughter some lambs the same way they were slaughtered (still not questions their playstyle and skills) .

Now at their horror and shock , they still can get killed by the "plebs" . Of course something is wrong here , this shouldnt be possible /s

GuruStarr783524d ago

Yeah, I'm level 29, armor is maxed out, I got a fully upgraded suros regime auto rifle and a fully upraded shotgun and legendary machine gun and I'd say I'm an average pvp player...

In the iron banner, I'm still averaging the same amount of kills that I was in the regular crucible and getting killed just as much.. so yeah, there's not much, if any difference in the iron banner.. people still spamming shotguns and busting out specials at the worst moment (for me, anyways..LOL).

Lawboy23524d ago (Edited 3524d ago )

Yes..,I am very disappointed with iron banner..been waiting on it for months for it to turn out to be the same mp I've been playing with minute differences....and a lvl 17 kills me one more time I'm going to throw my controller...

Also it's so leggy...,I've caught more lag during this event the. In the entire time I've played the game...

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter370d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood370d ago (Edited 370d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro370d ago (Edited 370d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881370d ago (Edited 370d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell369d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig370d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast370d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername370d ago (Edited 370d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g370d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka370d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai521d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface520d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard517d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
