Metal Gear Solid must reflect the era in which it's made, Kojima says

Following a demo of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, prominent game designer Hideo Kojima told Joystiq, through a translator, that it's important for media to reflect the era in which it is developed. Games with authorship tell a story beyond what appears within the product's narrative, he said; they give players a perspective on the state of the world at the time of a game's development.

Not the games setting/era, he's talking about the era that the game is actually being developed in. MGS5's era is right now, present day. But yeah the holographic stuff makes zero sense when you look at the tech in the rest of the series.

Snake is probably rich as heck and can afford technology that hasn't been revealed yet in that era. I'm sure there are crazy new inventions we haven't seen yet from the government. That's how I look at it at least.

Well they were cloning people back then and had walking tanks that shot nuclear missiles so I'd assume that world wasn't following reality tech wise

Because in the universe of MGS, everything was developed way ahead of its time, BUT the Patriots censored most of the tech form the rest of the world, and would only released it as time passes. Is kinda of a way to control world order.

Thing is that at the time of MGS5 the Patriots didn't have that much control.

Also there isn't that much in the MGS universe that would be that much ahead of it's time (ignoring the Metal Gears :D) particularly not for MGS games set in the past and nothing on the scale of a holographic map in the 80s.

I noticed that whenever something futuristic was present there'd be a weird lens flare or glare that pops up on the bottom of the screen, I think thats an indicator of some sort of "Time Paradox" seeing that, that tech shouldnt have existed 1970s/80s.
