Pachter: PS3 Beat 360 in April, Software Boomed

"Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter believes that the PS3 outsold the Xbox 360 in the US during April, while monthly software sales hit $830 million, up 113 percent on last April's total.

Ahead of the NPD Group's April videogame sales data release, expected this Thursday after market close, Pachter forecast that Nintendo once again came out on top in terms of hardware sales, shifting 600,000 Wii consoles and 550,000 DS systems. He cited greater Wii and DS availability in his investor note as contributing factors to the systems' sales success. He also said he expects the PS3 to have outsold the Xbox 360 by 290,000 units to 275,000..."

Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter has released a research note saying that he expects PS3 to have outsold Xbox 360 in the US in April.

Here are his estimates, according to Next-Gen (simExchange predictions):

Wii: 600,000 (734,000)
PS3: 290,000 (363,000)
Xbox 360: 275,000 (381,000)
PS2: 160,000 (n/a)
DS: 550,000 (609,000)
PSP: 235,000 (282,000)

to drop the price of the 360 just before Sony drops the price of the PS3. The PS3 has such a great appeal as a blu ray player alone, that a price drop of even $50 would give the PS3 a great advantage. People are naive when they just discount the fact that Sony will be dropping the price of the PS3 and making a smaller one as well. I also don't see where Sony failed in predicting that people would move from their PS2 to a PS3 for GTAIV. Unless you have seen the NPD numbers, you have actually no idea what happened as far as hardware sales are concerned. If you are not talking about the US, then I feel even worse, because it is widely known that outside of NA, the PS3 is typically chosen over the 360.

But I'll tell you what. PS3 is getting there alot quicker than XB is. One is building momentum while one is losing steam. And while its not all gonna happen on GTA's back its already obvious GTA is doing more for PS3 by selling more hardware than it is for XB which isnt even that far ahead in software even with your (dwindling) lead in userbase.

Its obvious the 360 fans stick together. They always have 5 bubbles with garbage flowing out in their comments. Its also obvious all of these die hard fans have 5 bubbles because of multiple accounts. I see EVERY comment they make has 10+ disagrees and no loss of bubbles.

I pretty much try to ignore the fud, but its getting rediculous. MS is HOLDING BACK "next-gen" with last gen hardware and media... lets just get that out in the open. They had to be first out cause their first box was a flop, so in turn they screwed us gamers out of true potential of multi plat titles. Its an obvious FACT that can not be denied... more and more studios are coming out and saying it. I never once heard anyone talk about PS3 holding them back except for a learning curve... and with new hardware, there is a learning curve. Dual core programing was not perfected the day it was released... comapnies had to learn, and it turned out to be BETTER then single core.. and so on. But the CELL is a breed that will be a staple in the new processors. Its power (when used correctly) can not be disputed.

All this is not coming from a sony fan, I am a techie. I love technology and advancements and it is exciting to see where things are going... but this constent defending a box and a company who blatently held back next-gen with rushed shotty hardware... shame on all of you.

The Wii is not that bad it lets you play neo-geo games! Well most of you guys may not like 2d game play and understand why. Most of the time it's not graphics 2d games tend to be crazy hard. Yet hardcore use to be about challenging game play and mastering games am I right? The reason for it's success is the fact that hardcore gamers to some capacity are buying it along with all of the other new and lapsed gamers. The only thing the the stand along Wii sports and Wii play games lack is hardcore AI some times and things to ratchet up the difficulty. Online does this yet that is not always a good solution as online players will always move to where every one else is.

You may not be able to find any thing to do with the system but there are millions of people that feel the same way about your system of choice. It's preference but we all knows that does not win markets. Yet the PC and HD consoles are still getting good games.

If you don't like the Wii you would be better off ignored comments about it. Going against it and repeating tired old generalization of it only pushes you out of touch with certain gamers. To hear some one say you have nothing to play on it makes them sound as bad as any other politician who doesn't know what they are talking about. Real gamers are having fun with this system and yes they do have some of the most hardcore games on this system via nintendo releases and the VC. To take any of that away is just an effort to win the argument and show how you are presenting a false case. Which leads any rational gamer to this point. You don't have a Wii and maybe you are not that hardcore and of course there is plenty to play. I mean really metroid is no walk in the park so try walking Through it. Lots of "hardcore players get beat in Wii sports games well hey your not that hardcore are you? You can win every time it you know what you are doing.

This may be the reason why we get so many sequels. I think developers are asking are these guys good enough yet for X type of game? I've notice how gaming has become more about stories rather than the game weird huh? I also think the turn off of the Wii has to do with this element because the better the graphics the better the story right? I think N4G.cpm needs to make a bio detail asking why do you play video games? Is it to cheerlead, find out what is hot, find your next challenge, collect your favorite stuff, etc.

Hey but what ever it is gaming is going strong and there are too many people invested in all of those groups for gaming to fail on any system. You can loose at system war if you got what you showed up for the day that you bought your systems!

Sure some studios will close but not too many clover studios will close. The numbers are looking good and we will see when 2011 gets here what happens. Right now watching the numbers is like watching the stock market every day even though you know this is suppose to be a 10 year investment. Set back and play some games! WII is what parents buy their kids for their birthdays... ages 4+. Wii is what nursing homes buy for the elderly for rehab... WII is what a real gamer buys and figures out its a novelty item because the motion sensing isn't 100% percise. It lags and not to mention graphics look like poo...

but all in all, i think xbox 360 has a better strategy.
because if its true that this fall 360 will have a sku with internal blu-ray, and a game that includes the Newton wii-like controller, and price drops on current skus with the new Jasper insides...

then they will be covering all angles.
The blu-ray wouldn't be used to games so they can make an xbox blu360 at a price compared to the ps3 and still pump out the arcade and pro at a mass market prices.
