New Killzone 2 Gameplay Footage

Here is a new look at Killzone 2 from the PlayStation Day event held in London earlier this week. The 2008 gameplay footage shows off not only flying aircrafts and Helgast tanks, but new weapons such as the revolver. Also notice the lifelike animations, beautiful indoor lighting, and particle effects.

If you listen to the developer in the background, he mentions that what you see here is the first level in the game and is a training mission.

it looks more purple than grey. the objects are pixelated. it looks like one of those fighting games from ps1. Al is horrendous. The first three are obviously BEING SORTED but my concerns are now about the linear gameplay.

Killzone 2 is likely to have a short SP due to the size of every level. That duration can be lengthen by opening up the levels with a more sand box approach. Then they'll last longer. Fingers crossed.

Otherwise, GG will be prepping KZ2 for online MP domination.

Since it's a video game there has to be certain focus on making it hard..

But something that i do think about its that in war if there is a lot of soldiers the enemy it's not focused on you alone, it's focused on everyone.. i mean by the look of it, it would seem that everyone is fighting each other. And to a sense, that's pretty realistic.

I don't extremely like when you have teammates but the enemies only shoot at you and you are kinda fighting alone.. Now of course when you shoot someone they should shoot right back at you and i do think in that sense they game needs some tweaking.

But like they said in that last video, this was like a training level and i'm sure at times you're gonna be playing alone and all the attention will be on you. Now i may be wrong but i just wanted to drop this here for people to consider..

graphically this game looks awesome an its a first day buy for me but... other than the graphics what is it gonna do to separate itself from the rest, an before you flame just think. when COD4 came out, it released with the PERKS that lets you set up different guns an abilities which was a little fresh an different way of thinking when playing. plus when i got my FIRST air strike an helicopter i just couldn't get enough of that. what will KZ2 have that will keep us going. for example after playing COD4, i bought rainbow 6 vegas 2 an I just cant get into it. its ok, an thats the problem, ITS JUST OK. but after looking at KZ2 i hope theres something other than graphics that keeps me coming back!!

You're comparing single player to multiplayer.
They haven't said anything about multiplayer yet and we haven't seen anything from the multiplayer portion the game.
If comparing at this point you would need to compare SP to SP and in that comparison KZ2 outshines COD4 graphically. I can't compare the gameplay until I've played it myself, but from the looks of it, it seems pretty intense.

Game looks great. They did a good job on the smoke effect... The glare and light effect are also unique. Graphically I am impressed... Not combinced about the AI, enemies just stand there and let you kill them... but who knows the guy is probably playing on easy and the game many months away from it's release.

Grayzone 2 doesnt realy get as much attention as Gears of War 2 does it? After looking at screens and vids of both of these games, Gears 2 make Grayzone look like that Gundam game on the PS3. Not to mention Gears of War sold almost 6 million copies. What did the first Grayzone sell? Grayzone franchise to date avereges 7's woth no GOTY awards, Gears or War avereges 9.6's with many GOTY awards. One is a AAA "tripple A" the other is an A "single A" game. Whats even more sad is Gears 2 will be in Xbox owners box this fall, Grayzone "MAY" be in PS3's in a year. I am not going to front I only have a PS3 but I am not a fanboy. I am actually kind of pissed that this is coming out ina year but if they make it even better then it is ok. Could be because it is using the same engine... Come on, both Gears 2 and KZ2 look great in their own way. KZ2 is better in details department, and GoW 2 bring more "cinematic drama" style graphics. ;)

Oh, and wait 'till both games are out, and then judge (remember how hyped Lair was, and look what happened).

looking good, looking very good, lucky british bastards that get to play the game, Geurilla must be working their butts off, the lighting is fantastic and the motion blur/post processing is good, my one and only perk is the texture work, it is very partial, good at some specific spots and very bland in others, the depth of field masks some weak spots but not all, especially when you go into cover, not so noticeable in swift motion but the surfaces have very weak textures, I just hope that it is just an oversight of incomplete work and not a compromise/sacrifice to keep the framerate solid but I may be wrong, 9 months to release after 4 years of development, the pre alpha tag is highly questionable or just a gimmick to generate hype, it should be gold in at least 7 months

how in the world could i forget the grass. yea that was a MAJOR over haul. i mean that grass probably had more detail in it then a entire stage in killzone 2. i mean, it was ground-breaking.

but what really caught my attention was the new strand of hair on that guy in gears 2. i mean, it was beyond amazing..........there are no words to express what im feeling about that game right now.........

and i will go a step further to say this is the most beautiful game in production. This kills crysis easily. And i have a great computer so im not just being "fanboyish". This looks to be the most amazing single player FPS. I just hope the MP is good enough not to let people down. I honestly dont care if it has MP...

...is setting a new standard in console visuals, much like Gears of War did on the 360. However, the AI needs a lot of work to make this a next gen game. If you were to take away the stunning visuals and replace them with those from the original Killzone you'd still be saying the AI is naff.

Lets all hope that this game lives up to the hype that continues to build.

if you haven't picked up by now that its probably on easy, its a press conference, and that its in pre-alpha, there's no helping you. Believe me, this game's graphics will only be challenged by its powerful AI. That's what the PS3's cell is for. You can dedicate an entire 3.2ghz SPU to AI, and have another 5 left for other things. They knew what they were doing when they created this monster. I'm beginning to realize the beast hasn't even been let out of the cage. I cant wait for twisted metal and other works of art. I also cant wait for the cell add on cards for PCs.

Uhh, the game has destructable enviornments, AI looks less stupid than the gears video, does it bother you that Gears is also grey/brown? KZ2 has the best light effects ever, and as for the small battles you must be confusing it with another game because this one has huge immersive battles...but ok go on with the troling.

GeoW2 is unimpressive to me. I thought it was funny when they showed like 40 enemies onscreen, which is supposed to be one of the new features, yet the guy playing couldn't shoot any of them. His crosshair was white, it never went red.

And the new weapons are stupid as hell. An automatic pistol? R U serious? A semi-automatic rifle? What is this, a WW2 shooter? Poison Grenades? Who would die from a poison grenade besides a noob.

The new Red Faction game will make Gears its 8itch. That game looks clean, and its 3rd person.

You could dispise the very core concept of the ps3 and of sony, but for anybody to not be impressed by the level of polish this game appears to have in this [early but not "too too" early] stage of development, is beyond me. Hype has this glorious way of absolutely destroying games... and i am of the opinion [even though I have never played a killzone game] that kz2 will likely pack one helluva punch [whenever] it does get released. Obviously, like the majority of you, i question a few things the AI seemed to be doing, i would imagine that they will handle those little quarks & bugs. So much to look forward to..

Graphically the level of polish is amazing, gameplay wise you can still see there is alot of work left to do. I'm guessing they delayed it because they needed more time to polish up the gameplay, however good looking graphics does not make the game great or fun to play.

Still looking forward to it though.

Guerilla Games is a Dutch company, meaning Europe. This game will be either released worldwide or Europe FIRST, so when this KZ2 release date for February 2009 is for Europe, expect the US release to be in March..

Why is everyone attacking the AI.

Am I missing something everyone else is seeing. Is it simply because the player is not getting SHOT, like maybe he's on GOD mode?

I see enemies, dodging for cover, hiding behind pillars, abandoning broken cover, vaulting low objects, and generally using their environment pretty well. What are supposed to be doing, reading books, playing chess, folding@home in their heads?

Sorry I just dont see the big deal and maybe cos I thought the AI on KZ1 was pretty damn good. If you played a section over and over they would react differently every time, depending on what you did.

I think people are just searching for something to find fault with here. The AI is no worse that any shooter in the last 3 years.

We need to see some vehicle gameplay.

Please make the fully usable, meaning you can get in an out at will - not the restricted/limited like we saw in Resistance.

The inclusion of fully usable vehicles would definitely separate KZ2 from COD4 which is the king of FOOT ONLY COMBAT shooters.

Just imagine how varied this level would be if a vehicle was available to use during it. That what I loved doing in Halo 2 was try to sneak a vehicle into the SP level to add variety to otherwise linear gameplay....and make the level easier.

killzone 2 gameplay looks very familiar to cod 4 but i hope it is better then cod 4

This game looks and acts so perfectly.
Things I've noticed that really liked game play wise.
1.) Cover position when you shoot your weapon.
2.) Weapons are very innovative.
3.) Blood splatter effects on the screen when you get shot or when you shoot the Helghast.
4.) The Melee move was something new and different compared to some FPS Games I've played.
5.) Multiple enemies on the screen. (Helghast tanks, gunners, troops, etc.)
6.) Large environments you have to play on when you fight are so cool.
7.) Physics are excellent and on point.
8.) Lastly my favorite part when you shoot the Helghast troop towards his head you can blow off his helmet.
Now I'm starting to understand why this may be the most expensive and realistic game you can buy other than Resistance 2 for 2008.
Feels so good to be a gamer.
