worldwide launch of Destiny will happen on September 9th. Accordingly, the Destiny Beta will kick off in the summer of 2014, available first on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

The delay puts it in the 2014 holiday sales window and buys the dev team a chance to avoid a BF4-esque launch... so overall I see it as a good call, especially announcing the delay now, people are still pissed about how the Watch Dogs and Driveclub press released were timed

This is Activision we're talking about. they always release their big games fall and onward. If they could, they would release it in November but that is their CoD month, so September is good enough to give Destiny its own breathing room.

I'm disappointed. Seems all next-gen games are getting pushed back. The Crew, Infamous SS (initially they said Feb), Driveclub, Watch Dogs etc. Going to be a serious drought for next-gen gaming for a few months unless a game surprises us with an earlier launch.

We might see Thief in Feb but that game doesn't look like my cup of tea and doesn't seem to be pushing the systems like other next-gen titles.

Exactly. That's how the preorder numbers end up looking so high. They have the preorders available way before the launch. By then Destiny would have been available for preorders for almost 2 years. Titanfall didn't have the preorders available until about 5-6 months ago and will release as soon as March. So going off Vchartz to determine how well preordered games will sell is unreliable considering some games were preordered over 1 1/2 - 2 years ago and some just a few months ago. One more thing Destiny has some stiff competition coming at the end of 2014.

Let's be honest, of course they'll be respectful of such a great title, but with a talented team like Bungie (the freaking creators of Halo) at the helm and the massive positive momentum it has going for it, i don't think it's such a massive threat to their sales they'd outright delay it for 6+ months.

Maybe Ride To Hell vs Battlefield would cause that situation but not 2 titans (pun intended) like Titanfall vs Destiny.

This gives me time to focus on other titles (TITANFALL) cough cough for a lil while anyway. There are some other(Watch Dogs) pretty decent titles on the way not to mention some neat DLC for TLoU and ACIV too. That's only the tip of the ice berg!

Also, the game may have been ready earlier, but with consumer backlash on games not being "complete" already this gen = good move Bungie.

Its likely because of Titanfall releasing in March. They didn't want gamers having to pick between the two games to get. I prefer a later date.

I don't believe destiny was ever set to be released any time around march. And also, I think in a bungie vs. respawn matchup, bungie wins that one anyway (just my opinion). But no doubt a game like destiny needs all the dev time it can get. I'd rather wait then for them to rush it out.

Besides, I'll be shocked if Titanfall doesn't get delayed. I hope it doesn't though.

Its nothing to do with been scared, but Bungie wants to make as much money, from the game as possible and releasing it in the month or month after Titanfall would have likely hit sales on the XB1 and PC

By waiting people will have played the heck out of titanfall and will be ready for Destiny.

I don't believe Halo is a serious worry. I think Destiny will sell great because they moved the date to September.

Destiny looks amazing! If the game turns out anywhere near as good as it looks like it will, they can take another year for all i care. Too many developers and publishers rush their games to the market, so it's great to see someone who's still willing to put polish and time into quality assurance.
