That looks tremendous. Almost makes me regret my 'don't buy Ubisoft-games at launch!' rule.

ZBlacktt3829d ago

Then you missed the best game by a LONG shot at launch.

Ezz20133829d ago (Edited 3829d ago )

of all the launch titles
this is the best title by far too
it's my 2nd best game this year Tie with Batman Arkham origins,Beyond Two souls
after my GOTY/GOTG The Last Of Us

yellowgerbil3829d ago

yeah it was the only game I bought for the ps4. Was planning on getting watchdogs instead but it got pushed back. kinda glad it did because then I wouldn't of experienced this great game. I haven't played the series since 2 and it has come a LONG way. so much to do. been playing nonstop for over a week and am still only at 50% completion

Sarcasm3829d ago

This is one of those games where you really have to be into the game mechanics though. It won't resonate with everyone.

At first it felt to me like the same old AC. But man oh man, after getting deeper into the story and mechanics, this game is so much fun. I'm addicted to the ship battles!

gta28003829d ago

That's a huge improvement over last gen. This game is about get a second look from me.

FamilyGuy3829d ago

Yeah it looks better and the plants actually move out of your way but they should also be commended for how good the PS3/360 versions look. Next gen versions look better but current gen isn't exactly slouching either.

Yi-Long3829d ago

@ZBlacktt: Oh, I'm sure the game will be at least as much fun a year from now, when I pick up the GOTY including all the DLC, for a fraction of the price.

I don't buy incomplete games. And sadly, Ubisoft is all about DLC-milking.

AgitatedOcelot3829d ago (Edited 3829d ago )

This game exceeded my expectations by a lot. The story and main character affected me more than any other game since Red Dead Redemption. Even The Last of Us didn't quite have the same effect.

With the last of us I kind of despised Joel most of the time for being a selfish childish dick. But by the end it was evident that it was an amazing story. And I liked the way it presented a forced moral dilemma at the end. As I reflected on it, I decided I would have made exactly the same choice as Joel. Realized I was actually a selfish childish dick probably just as much as him in the end.

I think to me, games like these can be amazing stories because they center on the kinds of every day emotions most people have, and tie them in with a fantasy setting they may have always imagined themselves in. For Black Flag, emptiness, loneliness, and mortality. The realization of how short life is. And who hasn't imagined being a pirate?

I find myself so detached and desensitized lately with the world, that I love when a story like Black Flag's somehow makes me feel some kind of emotion. Since not much does these days.

EPIC game apparently...Have it installed just waiting to beat Killzone (hopefully today/tomorrow at the latest so that I can start AC)

Jaces3829d ago (Edited 3829d ago )

This is one reasons I got AC: Blackflag for PS4 instead of PS3. Now all I need to do is snag a PS4 for my game...sitting alone, waiting. UGH.

OT: Looks so much better, just wow. Can't wait to hit the 4/5 year mark and on, games on consoles are going to explode with eye popping gfx. Going to be a great gen.

DAS6923829d ago

I have it. I haven't finished beating it all of the way through but it feels last gen to me. Visually AND technically. I've played BF4, and KZ:SF. I've played every single AC. (including liberation, but not the other handheld spinoffs) I feel like it's just more of the same. The story seems to LAUNCH the player into a world that is INSTANTLY vast, without warning. I've had some time to play the game, and although I have not finished it, I feel like it may end up being repetitive once you've gotten a taste of everything. Or maybe it's just gamer's fatigue talking? Either way, I may be out of bounds here, seeing as though I haven't even finished the game. O_o

AgitatedOcelot3829d ago (Edited 3829d ago )

Assassins Creed is needing some attention in the gameplay and engine department, definitely. It's in danger of going the way of call of duty in that regard.

But Black Flag manages to rise above the limitations of the game mechanics with the naval combat, a really great story, and tons of characters you'll like and become invested in easily.

There are some flaws to the storytelling. It could give more due care and attention to showing how Edward becomes attached to all these people in his life rather than just leaving the players imagination to fill in some details.

Visually it looks fine. But they definitely should consider a new engine and revamp of the animation and free running system. It's really starting to show it's age in some respects.

I would agree that the AC3 and now AC4 do tend to launch the player into a world that's instantly vast as you put it. It can be a little disjointed in AC4 because you're doing things on your own before the tutorial on how to do them even goes off in some cases. Then when it does, it's like yeah, okay I don't need a tutorial, I've been doing this for several hours already after figuring it out myself.

ive waited for the ps4 version of YAAAAaaaahrrrrrrrssssassins creed IV, im not disapointed.

from now on, im gonna get all my multiplateform games on nextgen....because why not?

Sarcasm3829d ago

Honestly seeing as how the game is $60 on either PS3 or PS4, it's crazy to not just pony up for a new system and buy only the PS4 version.

Locknuts3829d ago

Cuz you don't have a gaming PC?

AgitatedOcelot3829d ago

I have a gaming PC, quite a good one at that. And I played AC4 on my PS4. Loved it, and I didn't have to wait to get the horribly bugged PC edition in November that UBI is famous for.

The graphics are at a point on the PS4 that even a PC snob like me can be fine with them. And the experience as a whole is actually much more convenient. The game starts up and shuts down so quick, and the system is just so responsive and a joy to use compared to the PS3. Once the suspend and resume game feature is there it's going to be beyond awesome to be able to just walk away and be playing again in seconds the next day right where you left off.

PeaSFor3829d ago

i do have a gaming pc, why do you ask?

real MasterRace play on consoles, they play on pc, they play on handhelds and they also play mobile games when they poop.

you dont?

Thatlalala3829d ago

Pokemon and pooping go hand in hand for everyone I thought......

Metallox3829d ago

Oh, yeah! Let's buy next gen versions because they have moving plants! And of course, there's the resolution, but still, it's the same game, nothing changes. Buying a PS4 or an Xbox One just for this game... doesn't worth it... at all. I'd rather buy other games, even multiplats, like Battlefield 4 and NBA 2K14. And don't forget those exclusive games, even if they are not so good.

Stsonic3829d ago (Edited 3829d ago )

Or buy next gen games because for the most part you will be looking at a clear image opposed to a blurry mess. Do not be fooled by Youtube compression, this game looks so much nicer on PC and new consoles.

Metallox3829d ago

Of course, YouTube doesn't do justice to anyone, but it doesn't matter, this game it's just an ugly port on both PS4 and XONE, it doesn't demonstrate the real capacities of both consoles and still, current gen versions look very good, so for me, this game doesn't worth it on next gen systems, because we have to consider that you must buy a new machine, plus this game. So, no, not for me.

AndrewLB3829d ago

Really? That means you haven't actually seen the PS4 version, because if you had... you wouldn't be calling anything a blurry mess except for the PS4 version.

ZBlacktt3829d ago (Edited 3829d ago )

To tired to write it all out again the SO many changes from the Next Gen to the last gen. Game play is the same, but the additions, visuals, effects are not even close. There are things on Next Gen not even in last gen.... smoke from the canons, sails blowing in the wind, water splashing on the ships deck, rolling fog in the cities and on the ocean. Just on and on. A lot more detailed everything. Better wind and water simulator. The DS4 touch pad is SO awesome to use to pull up the map. Set a way point and continue on. All without leaving the toggles. The load times are SO fast ( when there is any ). You can fast travel in seconds.

Meanwhile as for your other games you mentioned. Look who's getting better review scores if that means anything to you. Hell, BF4's been broke since it came out.

MasterCornholio3829d ago

Don't forget the rock solid framerate in the PS4 and PC version. I'm not mentioning the Xbox One version because I haven't seen a frame rate analysis of it yet.

Ol_G3829d ago

I see those same effects in the Wii u version except the moving foliage

MasterCornholio3829d ago

There's something that changes between last gen and current gen versions of the game. Is is probably one of the most important improvements that most people forget about and thats frame rate.

Stsonic3829d ago

It's more than just a port if anything last gen is holding it back. High end PC's are struggling to run this game at 1080p 60fps on ultra setting. I expect patches and drivers will alleviate these issues but still it's quite demanding next gen game.

tee_bag2423829d ago (Edited 3829d ago )

Sorry, but a little bit of an exaggeration there. Low-Mid spec PC's might be struggling to run 1080p 60fps Ultra.

bunt-custardly3829d ago

I think you're missing the point. Whilst moving plants might seem a little insignificant, in terms of immersion, the plants moving in the wind and shifting when moving through them looks so much better than awkwardly passing through objects like a hot knife through butter.

The video simply highlights that in some areas, we've come to accept little discrepancies such as this in last gen games, and that now there's a bit more power, gamers are getting lots of neat touches. This is progression and for me personally, I really like the fact developers are focusing on these finer details.

pwnsause_returns3829d ago

Better than "next gen fish"

Something that has been done since the n64 era ya know...

allgamespc20123829d ago

ya ok son, nothing changes my ass. theres a huge diff between current gen and next gen. its actually insane, resolution makes a huge diff, foliage, volumetric fog, soft shadows, they are details and its all in the details when it comes to graphics.

Whoa! They're individually rendered and move as the players come into contact with it! That's unreal! The leaf even bent back. That's awesome.

Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag vs Skull and Bones Video Comparison Is an Eye-Opener

Ubisoft has just released Skull and Bones on PC and consoles. And, from the looks of it, the game wasn’t received well by some gamers. Not only that but it appears that Skull and Bones can be worse than Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, a game that came out a decade ago.

I wanted a Black Flag sequel so bad. It's still my favorite AC entry. The fact that they ignored everything that we loved about that game in this "spiritual successor" is making me enjoy watching this game crash and burn quite a bit. Either do it right or don't do it at all. (I understand the legal binding they got themselves into with the Singapore government to release this game at all costs)

/grabs popcorn

isarai92d ago

My thing is, if the Singapore govt was forcing you to do it at all cost, why not make what people wanted? How did ubi delay it for 5yrs, then again for 1yr and not just make a similar experience to black flag? How do you spend so much time and make so little?

Chocoburger91d ago

Ubisoft did make a sequel, Assassin's Creed: Rogue. It has a short campaign, and its packed with filler side quests for upgrades, but it's still a decent time.

It released on the same day as Assassin's Creed: Unity, so it was mostly forgotten.

porkChop92d ago

11 years of development. Multiple restarts. All the while people have been saying they don't want some pirate game where you can't even get off your ship. 11 years of people telling Ubisoft all they want is a pirate game that's basically Black Flag without any of the assassin or animus stuff. Yet they still served up this trash that no one wanted, charged $70 for it, and had the balls to call it AAAA.

The Guillemot family honestly needs to be forced out of Ubisoft. They've doubled down on everything players don't like about their games, they want AI to create "rough drafts" of their stories rather than letting their writers do their jobs, and they literally do not give a shit what their playerbase actually wants. 5-6 years ago their stock was worth more than 4x what it's currently worth. The company is dying.

Jin_Sakai92d ago (Edited 92d ago )

What has happened to developers? How can you possible make a worse looking game 11 years later? It’s honestly mind boggling.

darksky91d ago

It's because the older developers were better at it. The new generation pass most of their exams by copying code from around the web so are not nearly as good at understanding what they are developing.

LucasRuinedChildhood91d ago (Edited 91d ago )

No, here's the truth:
https://www.channelnewsasia...
This was made in Singapore and it's the first game of this scale to be made there. Ubisoft would probably cancel it normally since it clearly wasn't shaping up well but they were getting government grants to try build up the industry there.

Do you really think game developers are radically different than just 10 years ago? And this game has been development since Black Flag released.

Using one crap game to trash a whole industry of developers is stupid. It's like saying "Alien Colonial Marines proves that game developers suck now."

yeahokwhatever91d ago

i know this to be at least part of the puzzle from experience.

senorfartcushion91d ago

It's the multiplayer aspect of the world. MP games look worse than single player games, period. Every comparison we keep seeing are for games like Gotham Knights, Suicide Squad and Skull and Bones. They all have multiplayer focusses.

SyntheticForm92d ago

God, I'd love a remake of Black Flag.

Yi-Long92d ago

Enough has been said about this game already. The gaming world shrugged when it was announced so many years ago, and instead of listening to all the criticisms from the community back then, Ubi just sailed on and kept making a game nobody really wanted. What a waste of money and effort.
