Microsoft Snubs Xbox Gamers in Costa Rica with New Console

CostaRicaStar: Video game enthusiasts in Costa Rica and around the world have waited for two major events in 2013. One of those events recently took place: The release of Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V, which managed to pull $1 billion in sales in less than a week. The other event is the forthcoming: The release of the long-awaited Xbox One console by Microsoft, which might end up not working properly in Costa Rica

i don't always question journalists... but he didn't research it very well if he thinks the used game restrictions are still in place

cleft53890d ago (Edited 3890d ago )

He states in the article that you have to connect to Xbox Live once to remove the restrictions, which you do. The problem is that Costa Rican can't access Xbox Live without jumping through a bunch of crazy hoops so the restrictions are essentially in place for the average Costa Rican who can't access a proxy, use a foreign account, or flash their xbox one.

His point is that this is going to lead to rampant piracy because this is a high demand item that people want access too and this isn't just true of Costa Rica but a lot of other countries as well.

i wasn't talking about the connection to Xbox live (which has also been removed kinda as you just need to use an account registered with the same currency as one of the 13, it's not hard to do at all really) I was talking about the line saying "used game restrictions" which have been removed.

Just DL the patch on the Xbox website, load it up on a USB and voila. Problem solved. You can update the 360 console right now like that....

Real catch 22 situation Microsoft has there in Costa Rica. They require you to connect to Xbox Live once to remove the restriction, but in Costa Rica you have to do a bunch of crazy work around to connect to the network.

There is only so much Microsoft can do and hopefully they will be able to get native access to Costa Rica for Xbox Live. It sounds like they are big Microsoft fans out there so it has to at least be one of their priorities.

Well, this is their chance to stop supporting the company that doesn't care for them and pick up a real console.

PS4.

PFFT3890d ago (Edited 3890d ago )

I think people in Costa Rica have minds of their own. So they will buy whichever system they think suits them best. Besides both consoles are REAL consoles. And im pretty sure both companies care for its patrons just the same.

KonsoruMasuta3890d ago (Edited 3890d ago )

Microsoft obviously does not care for the money they are going to lose if this is not set right.

The One isn't a real console. It's a spy box that you can plug your cable box into.

schubacca3890d ago

Spy Box? Really? Come on now.... How does X1 communicate to the NSA without being connected to the net? The Astral Plane perhaps? How much is Doc Strange charge for the Astral Web?

PFFT3890d ago (Edited 3890d ago )

Youd be stupid to think that the only device that can spy on you is the Xbox One. Anything and everything can be used as a spy device. AT this particular moment in time all the stuff you type post and do on your PC,Phone or table is being monitored by the NSA. And it is a multi purpose console. If it plays games off and on it is a REAL console. Man i tell you delusional Sony fanboys are quite entertaining. By the way a small piece of advice, you should start wearing a tin foil hat so that the evil NSA or the government for that matter wont scan your brain and read your thoughts.

Microsoft from day one should have announced the xbox one day one patch was to come on game disks sold for the console. Not everyone has the internet that wants an xbox one, I do my ps3 system updates via game disks all the time... thoughtless on their part

If I was Sony, I'd take full advantage of this snub.

It was remade last year for PC , Now released and OPTIMIZED and PORTED for/to Xbox and PS5, not “remade” just for consoles.

“it follows a critically acclaimed release on PC back in 2023” that’s because it’s the same work/game. it’s not following/follow up or a continuation. Author Sounds like they are taking a stab at an article and don’t know the product-line lineage and release history/ hierarchy they are attempting to inform you about.

More appropriately: System Shock was first rereleased in 2023 on PC, System shock is now available on PS5 and Xbox.
