Game Under Podcast Episode 19

In Episode 19 of the Game Under Podcast, Phil Fogg breaks from tradition by introducing his and Tom Towers' best and worst experiences of the week to disastrous effect as what was meant to be brief intro, soon turns into 30 minute free for all devoted to Suda51 and the possibly contradictory nature of avant-garde auteurs.

Vanquish receives its final dos while Phil gives us his Thomas Was Alone Score, resulting in Thomas Was Alone becoming Game Under's highest scoring game ever! Bioshock 2 and Bastion are both touched on briefly; the news includes this month's NPDs, and the show is rounded out by a discussion on the history of professional writing in lieu of a Max Payne aural review. Phew!

I thought the remakes has been in full production for a while now

ElaBosak12d ago

They were making Alan Wake 2

Skuletor11d ago

You mean the game that already released almost 200 days ago now?

ravens5212d ago

Be another Alan Wake 2 situation if not. I hope they're not that pigheaded. Like really, if they're that petty I won't even wait for a physical release.

LucasRuinedChildhood12d ago

They have a different publisher for Max Payne than they did for Alan Wake 2 (Rockstar instead of Epic) so there probably will be a physical release for Max Payne 1&2 at least.

ElaBosak12d ago

Rockstar is publishing. There will be physical release.

Cacabunga12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

No physical support no buy .. do not screw This up

neutralgamer199212d ago

Sure Alan wake 2 still hasn’t recovered development cost

ElaBosak12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

What does that have to do with digital release?

neutralgamer199211d ago

Ela

There are many gamers who will not buy a game if it does not have a physical release, especially for Big blockbusters. So not being on steam and not having a physical release definitely has a lot to do with the fact they have yet to make that development cost back

I myself want to buy it on steam and I will also buy a physical version on PS five or Xbox if it becomes available but I will not spend a single penny on epic Store. I just want one storefront and one game launcher. I have no other reason to hate on epic or any other storefront.

ElaBosak11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

You think the physical games market is big? Have you looked at statistics from publishers between physical vs digital sales? Physical sales are almost irrelevant.

Neither Steam nor especially physical release have anything to do with it. Alan Wake 2 is inherently niche and not mainstream by any means. It would never have gotten a big audience and that's fine. Remedy and Sam Lake got to make the game of their dreams.

neutralgamer199211d ago

I am sorry I disagree completely. Yes physical market isn’t as big as digital but it still accounts for almost 30%. On top of that having the game on steam would have meant a lot more sales. These 2 points are facts and can’t be argued

To lose money again? Do you want them to close?

ElaBosak12d ago

Wdym lose money? How big do you think the physical games market is?

darksky12d ago

Max Payne is a far better franchise than Alan Wake. This should be good.

Not a single Reistance? Fuck this article.

Starhawk over Warhawk?...... Dude, NO ONE should listen to you.

Odd choices for "best" more like you settled as these being the "best" that available to you at the time, cause a lot of these blow or were average to poor performers that ended up in bargain bin.

Missing too many great sci-fi titles here. The Void, The Resistance Series, Killzone 2 and 3, Enslaved, man.. there were so many, this is redicu-list.

FreeckyCake31d ago

Nobody should listen to you either with that attitude.

OtterX30d ago

I agree that Starhawk shouldn't be above Warhawk, however I must say that Starhawk multiplayer was incredible for its time! Many people wrote it off bc the single player was quite terrible, bc it was basically 1 huge tutorial for the multiplayer. But I can tell you never spent any significant amount of time in MP. It was doing incredibly tense base building w air, foot and land vehicle (and mech!) combat long before Fortnite was ever a thing.

I bet it would have been much better received if it had just ditched the story mode all together. So many people like yourself completely wrote it off based on reviews by reviewers that let the criticism of single player weigh heavily on their scores. I bet you didn't even play it.

Friendlygamer31d ago

The riddick games are some of the best stealth titles ever, highly underrated

YourMommySpoils31d ago

What games? All recall plating was Escape from Butcher Bay.

Friendlygamer31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

There's also the less acclaimed 'assault on dark Athena'

( also, not saying this to you specifically but there's both resistance and killzone games on the list, it's amazing how even something so simple and innocent as a game list can be turned into misinformed vitriol here lol )

jznrpg31d ago

Glad to see Resonance of Fate. Enslaved was pretty good too. I’m sure there are others nobody has listed but I’m too tired to try and think of anything
