Microsoft: Xbox One will be leading product people love and embrace

Gamespot writes:

"Xbox boss Don Mattrick believes concerns over connectivity are overblown, recommends Xbox 360 for those without an Internet connection.

Microsoft's controversial announcement that the Xbox One will require an Internet connection has led to consumer backlash, but the company isn't concerned this will keep the platform from becoming an industry leader."

Hopefully.

Despite the amount of money they're about to throw out in advertising to say otherwise.

darthv723998d ago

could prove quite successful if they portray the unit as the end all be all of human convenience.

the only counter to that would be if Sony steps up their marketing. truth be told...that is a sore spot for Sony. unless they turn things around in that dept like they have elsewhere.

time will tell.

Pyrrhus3998d ago

"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it's called Xbox 360,"

He has a filthy way of looking at things. MS need to stop talking asap.

fr0sty3998d ago

"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it's called Xbox 360,"

So, that's Microsoft's answer to our troops overseas? A polite f%@# you?

Godmars2903998d ago (Edited 3998d ago )

"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it's called Xbox 360,"

Isn't the 360's main strength XBL, which is an online service?

And is it true that this super-slim Xbox only has 4GB? Has no larger HDD?

Prophet-Gamer3998d ago

All Sony has to do is inform people of the restrictions on the Xbone. As much as people don't want to admit it, the average joe WILL care when he/she has to pay 100 bucks more only to find they can't rent, lend, or sell their games (unless publishers allow it of course). On top of that, all the other DRM and privacy issues.

The casual audience MS needs WILL be affected.

People should watch the interview:
http://www.gametrailers.com...

The arrogance on display is just...staggering. It would be one thing if Microsoft said "it looks like we overestimated our plans and we will adjust". Heck, Major Nelson already told us "we are listening" and look what happened? Microsoft truly, truly believes that you will bend over and buy this system. I hope gamers out there have enough self-control to not do it.

I suppose it makes sense. Every single person who created the Xbox and Xbox 360 consoles is gone from Microsoft.

tl;dr Mattrick is saying "our policies don't matter. You'll buy it anyway".

Excalibur3998d ago

Ughh, just watched the Interview you posted and Don Mattrick came off like a sleazy used car salesman.

Vip3r3998d ago

He seemed really upset in that video. Must be getting sick of answering all those DRM questions.

Boody-Bandit3998d ago (Edited 3998d ago )

I did watch the interview. All it did was ensure me I am made the right decision by walking away from MS altogether. I wont ever have an XBOX ONE in my home unless they completely abandon their DRM policies altogether. Anything but wont do.

Mattrick and the rest of his crew has completely ruined the MS gaming division.

Just watch the Jack Tretton interview from today and compare these two guys. It's unbelievable how polar opposite they are when discussing their strategies.

Jack comes off as a passionate business man that absolutely loves his job, the products his company makes, the vision they have, but most of all appreciates their consumer base and listens to what they want from Sony.

Mattrick comes off, scratch that, IS an arrogant pompous SOB who views his consumer base as mindless drones. We will give you what we give regardless of what you want or ask for and you will bow down, kiss our shoes and be eternally grateful for it.

Hey Don, good luck with that.

MS hasn't been the same since Peter Moore left.

kenshiro1003998d ago

They're losing it alright. I don't know how they could possibly think their policies are good right now.

s8anicslayer3998d ago

Yes they are and they are too damn cocky to boot

AngelicIceDiamond3998d ago

Lets be realistic, At the moment, MS isn't budging on the always on console. MS will evaluate it after the thing launches but in the mean time MS honestly has no reason to preemptively back track on the idea. If it fails MS will simply handle it otherwise. God knows MS doesn't wanna take a hit with the XO.

My only concern is the handle of used games. But like I said MS holding on to its beliefs so don't expect change from now till launch.

""Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it's called Xbox 360," Mattrick said. "If you have zero access to the Internet, that is an offline device.""

noun
offensive display of superiority or self-importance; overbearing pride.
Also, ar·ro·gan·cy.

No wonder the gaming community hates you MS. Good grief...

darthv723998d ago

what some perceive as arrogance, others perceive as confidence.

let's not forget Sony was perceived as arrogant at the unveiling of the ps3 and yet they believed they were confident in their presentation.

Bathyj3998d ago

Any everyone called them on it. And then they were humbled and came back better for it.

Thats what MS needs. To be taken down a peg or two dozen.

Vip3r3998d ago

Umm, the PS3 has done spectacularly well, espeically since it was released 4-5 months late in Europe and at a high price point too.

When a rep of a company say "buy a 360" when referring to connection concerns, that is arrogance. Not confidence in their new product for people with a slow or no internet connection.

Reborn3998d ago

I'm sorry Dons comments come across as arrogance, not confidence (far from it).

They've not provided any real logical alternative, except those snappy remarks.

dedicatedtogamers3998d ago (Edited 3998d ago )

You are 100% right. Sony was arrogant and it cost them victory in the 7th gen. Saying stuff like "if you can't afford $599 you'll get a second job just to afford it!" was way off base.

However, one key difference is that arrogance surrounding the PS3 was arrogance from videogame designers. They were making decisions with the goal of being the ultimate gaming platform.

With Xbox One, it's not even being made by the same people who made Xbox and Xbox 360. Every single one of those people has left Microsoft. I wouldn't simply call it arrogance. I'd call it woefully out of touch with the market.

JokesOnYou3998d ago (Edited 3998d ago )

I dont see arrogance, PR by nature is to be positive, hes not boasting or saying you'll work harder to buy an X1 but clearly he believes in the business model of being connected so hes not going to tell people not connected to buy a ps4, NO he's going to push 360= xbox products. The bottom line is micro is taking a huge bet that people want games, media AND full blown connectivity= X1

Theres only one way to find out....consumers WILL speak with thier wallets.

The most arrogant major corporation I've ever seen. Get it together MS, seriously. Just imagining the amount crazy delusional things that they might actually believe is sad.

NateCole3998d ago

WTF?. To think that i kinda felt sorry for them a bit.

Jesus. Do these guys have a clue?.

So if gamers without internet want to play the new games they shown they should get the x360?.

Unbelievable.

hellvaguy3998d ago

If you cannot afford have an internet connection to ping you once every 24 hours (even dail-up could handle that), it's doubtful you can afford a next gen console anyways. So irrelevant argument.

NateCole3998d ago

You do know there is a world outside of the US right?.

People that have and can afford gaming consoles since the Atari days but don't have or have limited internet connectivity right?.

Sorry to say this but you are just as dense as Don. you guys have no clue whatsoever.

hellvaguy3998d ago (Edited 3998d ago )

"You do know there is a world outside of the US right?"

Yet you are here on your high speed connection worring about some 3rd world country person that cannot afford a next gen system anyways. I think you kinda need to get a clue. Dail-up at a minimum is most everywhere where next gen system would be selling.

I know your not referring to the US, Canada, Europe, and definitely not Japan (btw Ive been to all those I just listed except for Japan). Where exactly is this mystery hypothetical large consumer base that you speak of that doesn't not even have a dial-up connection?

NateCole3998d ago

Ok. i'll give you a clue.

Is next gen console gaming only for people with internet?.

Should gamers that want next gen gaming be punished for not having internet connection?.

Do every gamer in both developed and developing countries have internet connection?.

It's not about me. South America, Asia, Africa have a lot of gamers that can afford console gaming but don't have the internet infrastructure as do many parts in developed countries as well.

So if these gamers want to game next gen they should fuck off?. That is basically what Don is saying.

hellvaguy3998d ago (Edited 3998d ago )

Again, you cannot name this "country" after you insulted me for not thinking of the world outside of the U.S. I want to know more of your worldly travels that you spoke of to gain some insight on this. By Africa you mean like Somlia that has almost no electricity anyway. Ya that's a no go. You do realize by Asia, China is a large part of that and has internet. I mean your making too easy now.

I understand not wanting drm, but that wasn't what you initially were arguing. So post this make believe country you dreamt up or go away plz.

Wigriff3998d ago

40% of the US population doesn't have broadband access at home. There are plenty of people in rural areas who can't get broadband.

Even if the XBone had a 56k dialup modem in it - which it doesn't - are you honestly suggesting that people should have too "check in" with the console with a dialup connection when they won't even have the bandwidth to do anything else while connected?

And I don't want to hear any nonsense about how people should move to where there is broadband. Aside from the fact that some of these people are living on farms, etc., people shouldn't have to move in order to play video games.

Toon_Link3998d ago

Well I remember when my wife gave birth to my first child there were complications and I ended up staying at the hospital for 5 days straight. I guess I would have been shit out of luck considering I couldn't use the hospitals Internet to pass the time occasionally playing games.

So there are times when you might not have access to Internet and might want to game. Just saying.

Microsoft 2013 worse than Sony 2006

Loki863998d ago

Really, this is what you are going to go with? Not even comparable, MS actually has games and advantages to their system.

kenshiro1003998d ago (Edited 3998d ago )

That's not something to brag about when your policies are anti-consumer.

Tyre3998d ago (Edited 3998d ago )

@Loki86 This makes me sick, they R just flat out are patronizing consumers! Shameless. And there are no benifits to the system compared to the PS4. You must be a complete blind fanboy if you think MS has A. more games B. a better system. MS is SOOOO out of touch...it's not even funny. Spying Kinect/Visual DRM/Fees/24 hour check-in/Region Locked/No BC/less powerful hardware/Most of their socalled 'Exclusives' are timed-exclusive or not exclusive at all(coming to PC or PS4 on a later date). All 3rd party games are also on PS4 and are significantly better(check 'The Division' gameplay footage)/PS4 is at least twice as powerful. PS4 has no region lock/no mandatory spying 3D Camera/no DRM/BC via GAKAI/The most powerful hardware/Best exclusives(over 48)/Best develop friendly environment/Best indie developer support/PS+ with instant game collection/6 games EVERY Month for free/free DLC etc etc. Why in the world would you still defend a sleazy patronizing corporate suit-club posing as gamer-friendly and gamer supportive? THEY HAVE BECOME SO TRANSPARANT AND ILLADVICED it is just not funny anymore...they look like a bunch of brainwashed freaks & out of touch with the real world. Their socalled 'future proof vision' is flawed and wrong and a complete lie.Everone that buys into the scenario is just asleep! Stop defending them, plz you make us gamers look bad. MS clearly doesn't give a shit about you or gaming, they are trying to hijack gaming to install their closed money grabbing system & advertisement hell. Keep repeating the lies MS! Good Job patronizing people and forcing your corporate(dictate the world) benefit model on the world. With PS4 we all benefit, yes the developers/publisher & gamers. You got it wrong. I know it is hard to admit cause your not used to be spoken to. The original Xbox360 team was great(JAllard & others) but these guys now make me sick.

hellvaguy3998d ago

@Tyre

Good to see your passionate but I think your way too angry over the bias issues you pointed out. I mean I could go off on how I hate ps4 online isn't free. Or point out that MS did announce 13 exclusives. Or that MS is giving 2 free games on live month.

You don't really need to get that pist and defensive to the point of foaming at the mouth and insulting people. I don't like a lot of decision MS is making, but then there's a few ones I don't like with sony either. Just the way it goes. Don't buy it.

Microsoft to Add Copilot AI to Video Games

Why all the hate? Im actually excited about this! Always wanted this kind of immersion, and an AI companion with me all the time helping me out knowing the status of my skills/inventory/progress and giving me tips on the best approach or how to craft something specific is game changing for the industry.

Hate all you want about AI, but this is just the start and I can see the potential already. You wont be complaining in the next 5-10 years about this, but rather complain if a game hasn’t implemented it.

MrDead1d 23h ago

Yes we can't wait for the work of others to be used without the need to pay them so that MS can profit even more from the people they fire.

I_am_Batman1d 23h ago (Edited 1d 23h ago )

There is no chance I'd ever use something like this, especially if it's not part of the core game design, but a layer on top of it. It's way too much handholding. Many games already feel like busy work, because they don't let the player figure things out on their own. Having a real-time interactive guide defeats the purpose of playing the game in the first place in my opinion.

If this were to become the standard like you predict, we'll see more and more video games get away with bad design, because people will just be used to ask for help from the AI companion anyway.

Number1TailzFan1d 23h ago

Well Nintendo don't need this with some of their games these days, with invincible characters, items, easy bosses etc.. they do the hand holding built in

helicoptergirl1d 23h ago

Activision team is opening a new game studio in Poland 'Elsewhere Entertainment' to build new AAA IP

It'll be the second Activision studio based in the region, joining Infinity Ward Krakow, although this studio is, in fact, not working on Call of Duty.

Microsoft's quest for short-term $$$ is doing long-term damage to Windows, Surface, Xbox, and beyond

"The plan to move Xbox games to other platforms is codenamed "Latitude" internally, and I know there's debate and unease at Microsoft about whether or not this is a good idea. More upcoming Microsoft-owned games slated for PlayStation are already being developed. At least for now, they're potentially obvious games you'd most likely expect. And yes, while it's true Microsoft is a prolific publisher on PlayStation already, it has typically revolved around specific franchises like Minecraft. From what I've heard, Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation, and it all revolves around Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood's mandate to increase every department's margins. VersusDMC7d ago

No way can they get rid of the hardware as probably 90% of game pass subscribers are hardware users.

Highly doubtful those users will move to PC or Cloud to subscribe there and the competition (Sony and Nin) will never have gamepass on their system.

If they want to keep the current subscribers, they need to keep releasing new hardware.

PSPSA6d ago

I'm not convinced, why then announce that they're actually working on the next-generation Xbox with “the largest technical leap”, and also looking into handhelds now?

Rols6d ago

Not like MS don’t drop things a hot potato if it is not performing. Look at MS history to see products or platforms discontinued. Xbox is not a charity for MS, it needs to make money and the ABK was the last roll of the dice for Xbox.

purple1016d ago

Xbox hardware team members have been incorporated into surface team

This perhaps shows they are not expecting big things from Xbox as a separate entity

Abear216d ago

Seems like they are planning to win next gen. All the acquisitions were this generation and nobody except Xbox fans expect games from the acquisitions any time soon.

I’m sure Microsoft can afford to lose money on the short term, pretty sure they do risk assessment when acquiring many companies and spending billions, they’ll be fine lol.

i think it will kill off the xbox brand. windows will be fine.

but there is and would be a chance that xbox might be killed off in the future. if they fail to make the money they put in. imo.

S2Killinit7d ago

They wont kill it, but they will go fully PC while keeping xbox as a brand, and go multiplatform for the most part. They will also work tirelessly to diminish console gaming’s importance.

PRIMORDUS7d ago

It would be best if Xbox goes the way of Sega, just make and publish games. I know I myself will not support them at all with buying games from them, you all can. 🙃

ChasterMies7d ago

The Xbox brand will live for the games. I don’t expect Microsoft to entirely drop out of gaming hardware. They make Surface tablets and laptops. They’ll make Xbox branded hardware for those that want it.

shadowT7d ago

"Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation"

Forza and Starfield next?

Skuletor7d ago

Starfield would be no surprise and there's the rumor that it will come to Playstation after the Shattered Space DLC, Forza (along with Halo and Gears of War) I find less likely but I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually end up on PlayStation too, especially if Xbox give up on hardware and go the Sega route.

shinoff21837d ago

Not to worried about forza. I'd rather see others like what inxile and obsidian are working on. Starfield sounds like it needs more time in the oven so let it cook first imo. If starfield and it's a small if does release on ps it'll be in the fall around the time for dlc or right at the dlc and come packaged with it.
