No More Heroes began life on 360, says developer

Grasshopper founder Suda51 has told MCV that he first planned for Rising Star's No More Heroes to be an Xbox 360 title.

"Originally, I'd wanted to make this game for Xbox 360, actually. [Marvelous Interactive boss] Wada-san had information about the new Wii and how the new controller would work before it came out, so that's why he thought I should produce the game on that format."

"At the time, I didn't really understand why, but after seeing and understanding how it works, I think it was a good choice and the controller works really well with the game."

That's pretty crazy if true. Glad he got word on the controller for it's the best use of the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. I'd like to see more Wii games by him for sure ^^

and Its unique art style, to say this game is special because of the wii controls is no less then a joke. :)

Agreed with both of you. It's a shame how the game didn't sell much in US and did even worse in Japan. Hopefully the rest of the world will buy more but I'm not optimistic considering that the only 3rd party games that sell on Wii are crappy ones like Carnival Games while gems like NMH and Zack & Wiki end up with bad to mediocre sales.

How are you already drawing the conclusion that No More Heroes won't sell? It sold about 10% more copies in its first week of American release than Carnival Games did, and it hasn't even been released worldwide yet. Also a dozen third party games have sold more than Carnival Games on the Wii, so it's not exactly the poster child of Wii success.

Thats great and I really hope if they make No More Heros 2 they make it on 360 its much better suited for a game of its type it would probably sell far better. Although the Wii control was some of what made the game so fun to begin with.

Before this the only other game that the high end next gen console(x360/PS3) lost to the wii was Monster Hunter. I really do hope this is not a trend. I hope this game bombs sales wise.

Actually for a Suda51 game it's already selling better than his other titles.

It's a shame one cannot look at the Wii as a viable game machine to which it is. No More Heroes is a perfect fit for the Wii and the graphics would of looked the same on the 360 and PS3 because that's Suda's art style.

thats not really saying much. It actually is still considered a flop. In Japan it bombed pretty bad. I don't know how its doing in america.

However that doesn't change that the game is cool. I mean its not shadow of the colossus or ICO, okami good, but it shows that sales of games doesn't mean it doesn't rock and deserve your money.

This game was a tribute to retro old games. Not a tribute to pretty colors. It would of looked precisely the same on the 360 as it does on the Wii. Which I suppose is another good reason it's on the Wii so no one could complain that the 360 has bad graphics. You guys should be happy it was moved to Wii just for that reason alone.

I don't hate the wii honestly. I am only beginning to worry about the wii now impacting the hardcore market in a negative way like this game being lost to the wii. Before i thought it is impossible for the wii to steal games from high end next gen console but now i think it will happen more often especially if this games sold well. Imagine a situation when publishers publish games one the wii more often with last gen graphic because it cheaper and more profitiable on the wii than on the x360 or the PS3. Nah sorry i over reacted.

cheaper and more profitable. Yes any dev/publisher would love that. Wii is next gen as well. If you want to say it got lost to the PS3/360 then just say it got lost to the HD consoles for that's all that seperates the Wii from the PS3/360.

The Wii to be able to take games away from the others shows that it is starting to become a hardcore system (already was but that debatable) to get sales you have to attract the casual crowd and then you can spread out to the rest of the gaming world.

Jeez, people are never satisfied. They complain that the Wii doesn't have any hardcore games. Then when the Wii gets hardcore games they hope it doesn't sell well. Then if it doesn't sell well they'll complain nobody buys hardcore games on the Wii.

If this was a 360 game, and they did the debut launch day with hot skimpy japanese models with short skirts here in the U.S. They would have had a long line of fans waiting for an autograph. Not a couple people like in the japan launch.

It's just so sad to see a good game bomb so badly at launch in they're home country.
