Call of Duty 5
Before ever having picked up a controller for this Game Title I had already had many preconceptions for how this game would play out. Being a N4G addict I knew most everything about the In's and outs of the most recent "Call" that we all answer now.
Some of the preconceptions we all may have is that world war II games have been overdone and that's something COD5 definitely makes debatable.
Another preconception of COD5 is the fact that the IP gets passed back and forth like a bag of chips while watching half baked, and that this fact creates a better and a worse game every other year.
A Final preconception was that considering my past interest in the IP: COD, I would most likely not find the same joy in this installment that I have in the ones that were developed by IW
Infinity Ward made its biggest mark within the IP with COD4, There game spoke for itself with a unseen sales level for the IP and a level of online activity that equaled the likes of Halo.
One year later and a developer different we have treyarchs COD5: World at War. A game that was guaranteed success from just being able to ride of the tail feathers of COD4.
The Above BS aside, onto to a review of the Aspects of COD5 which makes everything I said above questionable!
Graphics: I guess COD5 used the same engine that COD4 used.
It didn't really improve but It definitely did take the landscape to a new place and set you in a environment completely different and a little more darker.
Gameplay: The controls are standard COD and that's a really good thing.
The controls for the tanks and turrets online and off are a atrocious as always but for some reason Dev's find it funny to torture us with these things. And I always appreciate the ability to run right away in a match when I have a smoke occupying my right hand so props to the L3 run button!
Sound: The ambient noises behind the massive amounts of gunfire sometimes will go forgotten and in this case that is the story... Only few titles have ever been able to capture my long term memory brain cells in the music category BUT as always COD 5 brings the BANGS and lots amazing explosions that will test your 5.1 surround sound system.
Story Telling: COD5 has definitely now accomplished WWII like I have never seen before. Treyarch has reinvigorated the history of WWII in a way that it feels like it happened yesterday by meshing a Sin City type artistic feel and bringing the player along for a journey that only a film of this day and age can manage to do, and they did so with passion.
MultiPlayer: ...
Short and Sweet Review for the MP will be:
I still Prefer COD4... By FAR
Summing Up COD5: World at War
There are no words I can find that surmise the whys other than the above but considering I gave COD4 a 10/10
COD5 gets a 8/10... Which is still really good =]
Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."
Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.
2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.
A very devoted fan of Call of Duty: World at War racks up incredible in-game stats while playing regularly for the past 15 years.
Of course you will hit a ridiculous stat after 15 of anything.
My main character for Everquest had over 500 days played in the first 6 years of the game. I was young then and had a lot of time on my hands. I don’t think I could duplicate that again until I retire and not sure I could match it if I tried.
Gamespot : Call of Duty: Vanguard launches with 20 multiplayer maps, three of which are actually remakes from 2008's Call of Duty: World at War. Let's take a look at how the maps have changed with this side-by-side comparison.
but are you a full 100% droid by any chance?
the multiplayer in this is really aggravating for some reason
it seems that the cheap kill and spawn camping is all people do, I can't even tell you how many times i've been sniped as soon as i spawn...especially on cliffside it happens every game many times
tanks in multiplayer are also not working for me...it takes a lot to disable a tank and if your team isn't into actual teamwork then the team with the control of the tanks wins
this isn't even accounting for the hordes of glitchers encountered
this isn't merely whining because i suck because i can hold my own, it just seems the level of 'cheapness' has been notched up since cod4
campaign also wasn't very exciting until the last 2-3 missions when all hell was breaking loose, I completed the entire game in about 4 hours, collected most of the achievements and probably won't go back into campaign alone
death cards are kind of fun but most of them make the game aggravating
nazi zombies is extremely fun with a competent team, so i highly reccommend playing with friends other wise you wont last more than a few rounds...its not quite left 4 dead but it is still zombies
i borrowed this game from my girlfriend because she got it and hated it and said i could keep it as long as i wanted because she has no interest, i've had it about a week now and it'll be going back to her very soon
overall call of duty 4 is a much better experience on and offline
i'd also like to note the huge graphical disparity from the campaign mode to online multiplayer, i understand downgrades are necessary to ensure the game runs smooth but the downgrade for this game is huge
campaign is downright gorgeous in some areas but multiplayer is very muddy, very dull, and things seem to lack depth
cod4 downgraded the multiplayer as well but the drop was nowhere near as significant
lighting and texture quality just don't seem to match up in the 2 modes
i'd be more inclined to give this a 7-7.5 overall, even if call of duty 4 wasn't nearly as good as it is this game still would not stay with me long
Isn't as good as COD4 in some ways, but it's better in some other ways.
I love the dogs. That is just awesome. Period. And then there're the tanks. Just a terrible idea. A game like COD is dependent on a great multiplayer, so a fundamental design flaw like the tank is a severe flaw. It makes those maps unplayable, and not enjoyable. The single player is just incredible tho.
For me, it's a 7.5. The tank is just too problematic, too big of a flaw.
good review
