its not as big of a franchise as people may think, sony can pretty easily make it one though. Itll be easy for them to surpass the 2.6 mil Uncharted sold. They just need to market the damn thing really good, the awesomeness of the game speaks for itself.

Assuming there is some truth in the numbers, and if you take an 80% discount, the almost 700k pre-order for CODMW2 is pretty healthy.

It's sad but Kotik may be right, they can raise the price it may still sell very well. Unfortunate but true. Hopefully the price increase doesn't affect any place else or develop into a trend... This "DLC before the game is released" trend is bad enough already.

Are preorders an accurate indicator of actual sales? Preorders are usually no money to $5 down...right? I mean, just from personal experience, I know a lot of people who preorder stuff for bonuses, or just the heck of it, but never buy the game.

Also, should Uncharted have higher preorder number already? I thought the game isn't out for another 40-something days...right? Again, this is just me, but I am *definitely* getting Uncharted, and I haven't bothered preordering yet.

lol, I wouldn't say the finger so much. See, PS3 owners have a choice of COD or MAG. Which sure COD game is awesome. But online, MAG is ten times the game if you look up features, options, map sizes, perks, etc,etc,etc. So with that some are picking one or the other. But sure the numbers will go way up since the Slim just went on sale today infact and is sold out most everywhere and #1 at Amazon ( again ). The Xbox looks so good because it's been a cheap console for years. I mean cheap as in price, lol.. Americans love cheap. Hence the only place it sells well over the PS3.

But from what I've heard from friends in the MAG beta. It's really fun and very indepth. Like a COD meets SOCOM, with some MGO and Battlefield.

The playstation's library has always been about variety, while microsoft shoves shooter after shooter down the throats of their fanbase.

INC you do realize that the UK is not the entirety of Europe right? Microsoft always outsells Sony in the UK, but in the end it doesn't matter because Sony still has greater sales in Europe.

Oh and the 360 did not outsell the Playstation for the last 3 months in Japan, it was 3 weeks at most and that was only because the old models were no longer be produced so that the slim could be introduced.

Come to think of it the Playstation has outsold the 360 by a margin of 3 to 1 this year in Japan, so don't try to claim the last three weeks are the start of some kind of trend.

Do you have any idea just how huge and labor intensive retail tracking is just for one single region? NPD is a huge company that companies pay money to for their accurate sales figures. Been doing so for many years.

Well that sums up the ignorance we're seeing here. It is definitely not a black and white as you suggest. NPD, Chart Track and other "official" tracking agencies make adjustments all the time to their figures and have been known to make some huge mistakes in the past. This is because they sample data - collect sell-through information from sample of retailers and extrapolate the raw figures to represent the whole market.

VGChartz does a similar thing but bases the figures on Consumer polls and retail sampling. It's not *as* accurate at NPD but it isn't inaccurate either.

If you pay attention every week and add them up you see they are close, before any corrections happen. Hey I don't know anything about who runs the site, how many people they employe, my point was that as far as NPD numbers, they are close, they even show there numbers compared to npd before any corrections smart guy. I am just asking a question why people hate it so much, I don't remember so much hate when they were showing sony beating Microsoft at the begining of 08 every month. It's just made up. A guy name ioi types numbers into a computer and then uploads them to his website(vgchartz).

He's dumb enough to think that by making up numbers out to the a single unit makes them look 'legit' when it does exactly the opposite.

Probably they use statistical methods to infer (estimate) those numbers. Obviously those methods are error prone and typically (as every statistic) work better when you have a BIG sample, that means a lot of retail places where you get sales data or preorder data.

Anyway, you are totally right about that single digit comment. Vgchartz is fooling no one with those numbers, it's ridiculous (and highly inaccurate) to make numbers up to a single digit.

Statistical polling, same as where the sell-through data comes from on VGChartz. They ask consumers which games they are preordering, ask a small panel of retailers which games are getting most preorders.

It's all statistics and numbers. They don't reveal exactly which sources or exactly how they scale, but then neither does NPD or any other sales agency.
