'Borderlands' Has 3,166,880 Different Weapons

"Randy Pitchford, the president and founder of Gearbox, was walking us through the single-player campaign when he was hit by a need to show off a particularly cool gun. Jumping into a debug menu screen, he was able to select a few parameters to find just the sorta gun he was looking for. In this case it was a rocket launcher with the description, "Holy sh*t, it shoots rockets!"

The debug menu was fascinating, though, as it's basically a giant database of all the possible combinations of guns you can have, from sniper rifles with shock damage and a blue scope to uzis with flame effects and a red barrel. For each category the total number of possible guns was listed and, at the top, was the total number of guns that could be created with all the possible combinations.

That number was 3,166,880."

Whenever a developer starts spewing these kind of absurd numbers then it more than likely due to the fact that the games NEEDS this hype, sort of like what happened with Fuel. I hope this game turns out well cause I am kind of interested. But over 3 Million guns? Come on, it's freaking useless.

its similar, but its actually a type of weapon, its alien counterpart, the version that shoots fire, etc most with tweaks in its model, making them look like what theyre supposed to look like. If u guys looked at the gameplay of this game ud understand, cause at least thats what the devs have said, dont know why some are so eager to take this game apart. still dont know if ill be getting it.

That hurts me to think about. Especially since I'm a perfectionist/completionist when it comes to this kind of stuff. For instance, in Fallout 3, I wouldn't rest til I had one of everyone single weapon type in my locker. Plus all the special weapons, plus one of each of the weapons you can build all upgraded max.

Of course with this game, if they are all stuff like "model gun w/silencer", "model gun with scope", then I can at least get away without doing some of them. Just have like "M1A5 with scope, silencer and flashlight" instead of having all the separate lil things. This is probably going to drive me insane though. What sucks more, I don't even care about the trophy if there is one, I'm just OCD and obsessive like that.

It's the same randomization/customization style Diablo used, if it wasnt for the random prefix bonuses you woulda had like 15 weapons, instead you got a crap ton of more unique weapons, I'm all for this kind of system, makes things interesting

leave that aside dude, the devs of this game are proud cuz the large variety of weapons they made, this means, they ACTUALLY want u to use them all,

i dunno u guys, still, i only use 1-5 weapons, (including knife) im not that on be a collector of gunz lol,

now... if 1 trophy/archievment is *collect all diff weapons* i will laugh at trophy/archievments whores/hunters LOL

Looks like a lot of guns to me. This is the game I wanted fallout3 to be. It would be cool if games could not only create new weapons but actually create new levels with story.

I kind of agree with that. Though, you say that like you didn't like Fallout 3. I enjoyed it quite a bit, though. But this game is seeming like it's going kind of the Fallout path, but can quite possibly surpass it and fulfill some of the untapped potential that Fallout 3 had. So I'm definitely looking forward to this, will definitely be picking it up.

3,000,000 is not a good number. Bigger numbers does not equal better games, look at fuel. Variety is key to game but you also need some common otherwise the game becomes foreign and you'll just end up using the same weapons and not changing.

this game for this but not diablo 3. It has the exact same system. Diablo always had a random generator for weapons, armor AND dungeons.

If this game has millions of weapons but only 6 types of armor and three vehicles I'm going to be severely put out.
