Bioshock does have hyper graphics, but not the same as Uncharted, Bioshock is a great game in many ways, but u cant tell that the water is realistic when u are in a ego perspective and cant even see your body.
It should have been water effects on the weapons and on the arm or the plasmids but there were no effect. B(

i played bioshock in high end pc and i finished it, i have to say it has amazing graphics and also effects but the water on uncharted is also superb! i didnt play uncharted but from the videos it looks very good!
but its not true to say uncharted makes bioshock looks like a wii game! u can judge that only if u play it on high end pc and uncharted! dont know about the 360 version but i think its inferior to the pc version!

If any of yous owned Uncharted or even cared to notice(yes its very hard to see in the videos), Uncharteds water affects arn't just a flat plain with a water texture stuck on top like every other game out there, a lot of the river affects in Uncharted actually simulate water. It moves the right direction and bobs up and down when something heavy moves through the water(seas arn't affected by heavy objects), it changes direction correctly when it hits rocks in rapids, it affects your gameplay when you try to steer a jet ski through the rapids. And drying clothes is pretty cool in that game too(best i've seen).

1998's Forsaken still has the coolest water effects I have ever seen...although it was barely used in the game, it looked awesome...not sure if any of you played that game or not, it was a hover bike game sort of like descent...pretty good at the time...

overall though there is no denying uncharted's "wetness"...the water is near perfect...and the way characters get accurately soaked (whether wading around, swimming, or in the rain) is unmatched...

I pretty much agree with that list for the most part...except older games like Saints Row and Mario Sunshine...if they were only comparing it to that time period, I guess they were good...But Saints Row?...haha...no...

Yeah, what a waste of time. They didn't even show video from Metroid Prime... they could've shown the rain running down the visor at least! And most of the water effects in the videos were flat and uninteresting. The only ones that caught my eye were the part in Bioshock with the explosion, and the fistfight in Drake's. Other than that, rather dull and horribly edited.

HL2 water looks like @ss. In one of the levels you can look out over a cliff into the ocean, and clearly see that its just hundreds of morphing square textures with env-maps running into each other. It really killed the feel of the game for me when I saw that. Maybe the new versions are better, but that's how it was in HL2 for the PC at top specs.

The list was stupid...for one, if you're gonna put games like Super Mario Sunshine and MGS3 then keep the whole list classic and put Waverace or Splashdown or T&C Surf Designs...all of those other water games on there...but MGS3's water probably shouldn't be on the list to begin with. And at the end of the video when he's totally amazed about his clothes getting wet in Uncharted...Lara Croft's clothes get wet in Tomb Raider Legend AND they drip. In Uncharted, certain parts of his clothes get wet depending on which parts actually touch water, and thats really cool...but there's no dripping. It also annoyed me that they didn't show the intro scene on the boat that really shows Uncharted's water, and the cutscene after where they show them jumping from the boat and swimming to Sully's plane...they showed the little part of the plane flying around, but anyways lame.

Either you're gonna keep it classic, or keep it in this generation and say what's REALLY the best looking water in game. The water on Bioshock is the best I've seen. Irrational had a whole team that just worked on the water and it shows. I still fool people who haven't played the game and when you start off after the plane crash in the water people still think it's a CGI cutscene. I would of also included the COD4 opening level on the ship(360 version).. The water effects are better than many on this list.

Uncharted looks beautiful and I can see it being in the top 3 but I don't agree it has the best water. I do think it's cool how Drakes pants get wet, but that doesn't make the water better than Bioshock.

Good one on the intro and plane crash but the really impressive part of water effects is how the underwater city feels wet. The parts with crack on walls and such with water rushing in or the toilets sorrounded by water are simply amazing.

Uncharted's water is also great and indeed should be among top 3.

You're wrong MK. Technically at least. You might like the dark water artistically in Bioshock...but technically it doesn't hold a candle to Uncharted - especially console version against console version.

Plus if you've played through Uncharted and seen the refraction of light on the water (including orange sunsets)...the movement and reaction to vehicles and characters, objects and characters getting wet and drying in real-time, reflecting a huge town in a 6million polygon level, and the transparency to see objects below...you may agree that these technical accomplishments put it artistically above Bioshock in your estimations as well.

For reals though, he was listing all of the things that make water believable. Bioshock just doesn't cut it. Crysis on highest setting and Uncharted do it right. Your "wall streaming" is simply a scrolling texture. a pretty texture, but kinda lame with no real physics attached. Uncharted's water interacts with the user and the environment.

I was not impressed by Bioshock's water at all, to be honest. The atmosphere was great, and the look of the water helped, but it just wasn't spectacular.

You know, come to think of it, the animations in Bioshock were choppy, in general.

If you don't believe me, look at a sentry bot flying around and watch as it turns....it turns like it's on a octagonal cog.

Technically, Warhawk's water is superior to Bioshock's, in that it is generated in real time, and relies on no animations whatsoever.

The Unreal Engine uses canned animations for its water. There is no way in hell that it is as realistic as anything that's done in real time.

Hopefully, Tim Sweeney will start adding more procedurally generated effects as he completes Unreal Engine 4.

I guarantee you that there is not one game that uses the Unreal Engine (this includes Bioshock) that has the correct realistic properties of water. You will not see underwater light refraction, wave reflection, character and object interaction that creates waves, real-time world and character reflections, etc.

The most impressive water to me so far has been Gears, Bioshock, uncharted, Halo3, far cry, crysis, oblivion, and lord of the rings rts for 360! Bioshock should of got the top spot but still no game has yet to make me feel as immersed as wave racer did years ago! Bioshock should be number 1, but I think in an effort to seem "fair" the guy who made this wanted to include games from every console. Many should not have even been on the list. The thing about uncharted is it is pretty but not nessecarily realistic in the graphics department. Sony does that, they throw in a bunch of bright pretty colors and it tricks the weak minded into thinking they are looking at great graphics, when in actuallity they are just pretty, not realistic. Uh, what blurry computer monitor were you looking at when you watched an Uncharted trailer there, MrMarbles? Seriously, it's REAL close to GOW, and definitely equal to Bioshock. But to equal it out with Dead Rising? That's just insulting. Maybe not so much the character or vehicle models, but the landscapes and environments are near photo-realism, especially on an HD. They probably should've elaborated on Just Cause (PC, 360 only), because the PS2 port was rotten at best. Unfortunately, that was the one I played, I had heard it was such a great game, and picked it up used at a Game Crazy, only to take it home to my 32in HDTV and have it look like a dried turd on a desert road, and controls were equally as bad.

But I do agree with #1, it wasn't so much the water itself as it was how it affected the character, if you landed in water, the character retained a "wet clothes" look for a couple of minutes, and it looked brilliant.

Actually guys, you wouldn't believe how Tomb Raider Legend's water would put many of these games to shame. And while Bioshock is the MOTHER of aquatic atmosphere, believe me when I say that Halo3's water could put its crown in question. Uncharted? Yeah, why not. But Crysis shoulda been number one, seeing as how this whole water thing was won long ago, first with FarCry and then continued in Crysis.

Most should note that water is almost ALWAYS going to look different from game to game. It wasn't too long ago that a blue/whitish layer of translucent polygons was actually new sh*t. Now, with every developers own proprietary tools and shaders, the way it looks ingame can be akin to somewhat of a trademark. And they're definitely getting better at it. But none are really TRUE water effects.

After being chased by the Kryll through a torrential rain deep into a forrest, and seeing that awesome vehicle slosh through mud, and seeing actual water running down TREES?! Then getting to play through the level, complete with an abandoned factory that came to life as all of its parts pipes and rails ran over with the downpour?! Even its relfelctions were distorted with acurate refractions of varying sized streams of water!

Modeling water is quite difficult. Getting the effects right takes a lot of CPU horsepower. LAIR looked the best until Uncharted was released. While LAIR had good water effects - it was mostly flying over the water. With Drake you walk in the water, see the ripples, the distorting of objects under the water - it looks like - water.

Uncharted for me is the game that I have seen that has the best water effects. While playing the game I found myself running around the water just to look at the effects - it is that good.

Have not seen Crysis yet - so i can't comment on that. Maybe someone who has both can comment.

I've played Crysis on my PC on High settings and yes my computer was dying but its like 3-4 years old now hehe. Most amazing game I have seen tbh, Crysis does beat Uncharted in graphics but Uncharted is a very good looking game. Halo 3's water effects are actually pretty great as well as Bioshock.

I would say the best water was in the PS3 tech demo with the ducks. (yes I know its not a game by buy extension you could say it became a game. It bobbed and rippled and waved realistically with dozens of ovject floating on top at once. But the most impressive bit was actually filling a glass and being tipped from one to the other. It actually has volume and isn't just a surface off water on the top like alot of games.

Uncharted is next obviously.

We all know that Uncharted has the best water effect. The ripple/waves move many different ways. It also has the best reflection. So it should be number one. Something that other consoles are not yet capable of.

I never seen bioshock but for the first time i saw it on the above video. I'm impressed. The way the water falls down the screen.

Of course F1 is not on the list. It is quite similar to bioshock.

uncharted has best water i have seen to date. didnt play crysis yet. but i played bioshock on computer, and yes the water looks good, but looks total fake when you look and move around. there is no interaction. uncharted water is way better, but ppl who claim that bioshock has better water, are only xbox fanboys, but they even cant know because they didnt play uncharted. so how can they know ? uncharted beats bioshock without doubt. i think ut3 has also nice water, but not as good as uncharted.

I think the fact that Nate actually gets wet was actually the reason why it landed Number 1. I still havent seen a game, that not only present crazy graphics such as water, but also your character getting wet and seeing that effect on his clothes. Uncharted is the only game I've seen that does this.

too bad they didnt use the flooded basement scene (whatever it was underground), were all the pirates attacked you from all sides. That water looked awesome. The game has unified lighting and shadowing.

Actually there is another game where the character gets wet when being in water Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation(PS1,PC). Her clothes look darker and she drips. Uncharted pulls it off pretty awesome and is an overall graphical beast. Detail in the game is unmatched thus far on any console. I don't see anything wrong when admiring certain graphical feats in games most gamers have a moment when playing certain games when they just look at something and go WOW. That doesn't really matter what you use to play games on.

Uncharted does have the best water...Bioshock might come close on PC, but it still doesn't react like Uncharted's water (Bioshock not on 360 as it doesn't react to your movements) - or have the light refraction like Uncharted's water. Unless you've played the game you just can't know the beauty of Uncharted's different waters combined with it's lighting.

As shown by Gamesradar they also agree Uncharted's water is the pinnacle of modern graphics (Bioshock is number 2, but Uncharted's takes the cake). http://www.gamesradar.com/u...

I'm sure Crysis's is better though...but Uncharted is impressive technically AND artistically.

That number one spot is well deserved and accurate.

Considering that it looks good from Both sides, is a huge plus. I'd say Uncharteds water fits its environment. And it is a level of being photo realistic...

The spray-sprites behind you take you out of water admiration. For just a second though..

Crysis is flawless. For a game. Take a swim and look at the sun from under water, you will see the different color spectrums getting refracted if you look just right. Its really on a different level. Crysis water matches the environment as well, and its just damn damn amazing.

Bioshocks water is terrible. They just add refraction to low res morph target water.
- ALL of the water is 2d driven. Just a surface with textures of 'foam' on it.

Its just the first time non-heavy-pc-owning-people were able to see some good shaders on a console.

Uncharted REALLY REALLY pulls off that "deep layered" look. And the lighting of the water just may trump Crysis. Like how you rotate the camera at different angles, and the water appears to have the 'fog' look in it. Its absolutely astounding. If they just worked out the particles for a splash, that would have sealed the deal for best water on a "console" I think the water in Uncharted is also a bigger character than it is in Crysis. It seems like naughty dog really fell in love with the water, as well as the animations, entire game.

I love them all.

I totally agree with the top 3. Nothing comes close to Uncharted when you add visuals + physics. Uncharted's level "Up the River" is just too awesome. Also Uncharted has waterfalls, oceans, small rivers, etc. It has way more variety than Crysis. BioShock is pretty varied too and on the PC the lighting/physics are pretty awesome (too bad that on the 360 the physics/lighting is not on pair with the PC), and it completely deserves second place. Crysis is not as varied as BioShock/Uncharted but what it does it excels so it deserves 3rd place easy.

I would like to mention Far Cry. Far Cry come a few years ago and it's water was not beaten until this year when Uncharted, Crysis and BioShock come out. Even today, imo Far Cry is 4th place.

It seems to me that many of you who are here haven't played uncharted. I just finished it and it REALLY suprised me. I mean that the water in the demo was actually very sucky looking, but anywnere else in the game... OMG! Especially the (drowned city? It was "Hukkunut Kaupunki" in finnish) level where you walk around in the ruined and flooded city looks absolutely AMAZING! I haven't never seen anything like that in my life! The city looked so realistic and vivid and the water... Baby, baby, baby, baby!! And I've ´still played thru games like Gears, Halo 3, CoD4, R&C: future. I was actually disappointed with the water of Crysis, tho I've seen so many videos of it so I knew what was coming.

Most games don't have water physics, all the have are textures that look like water. Uncharted is one of the few games(only one I can think of) that actually has proper water physics.

I own a PS3 and have played Halo 3, Crysis and Bioshock. And whilst I admit that if you have a good enough rig the PC beats Uncharted hands down, can people now shut up moaning about the price of the PS3? Because to run the games on a PC that excedes Uncharted's effects, costs way more than a PS3 and 360 added together.

Farcry on Xbox 360 was THE game with the best water effects ever in a videogame.
I understand wy uncharted is better with water effects on cloding,etc...but "Farcry:Predator Xbox360" not making it in the best top 10 of al time is a shame.

Crysis is pretty close, but again no cigar, and yes i'm a hardcore pc gamer. Always have been and strangely enough, i love water in games.

So again, going from games i've played i'll give you my list.

1)Uncharted
2)Crysis
3)WaveRace - Because it just works.
4)Farcry
5)Bioshock

Not only the water but the textures, sound, AI, replay value, and most of all fun factor are truly next gen. The chapter where they take the jet ski up the river was the most jaw dropping graphics I have ever seen. I think it was chapter 11.

uncharted has the best water because of how interactive it is. there are a lot of games with good LOOKING water, but when you shoot it or walk in it, it does not react realistically (halo, lair). i would put it the way that they had it, 3. bioshock (not realisitic when interacting) 2. crysis (very good, ripples not great), and 1. uncharted (very interactive, ripples amazing, explosions in water are terrible though)

i think call of duty 4 has very decent water effects. in my personal list i definitely put bioshock,and half life 2 in my top 2.

I wished they showed the Scene where you are in the U-boat on top of the cliff and it's flooded with water and you have to wade through it,that blew me away the most..

Other water worth mentioning is Sega games, They have amazing water.. When Sega was actually a good game producer AM2 anyone?

Sony Fanboys are too one-track minded to see the glory that Halo3 is. I swear, if they gave the game a test-run they would see for themselves what the fuss was all about. I don't insult a game if I've never played it.

And the hordes of fanboys will say that Halo3 "looks" like a cartoon! Okay...now, tell me how it PLAYS. Oh, you can't? Why? Because you haven't played it! Well if that's the case, people who continue with that arguement only have half the credibility of someone who KNOWS what the game plays like. I played your Halo 3 for 6 hours in co-op and It was OK. nothing new and a bit too repetitive.I was disappointed it felt like the old Xbox version with more VRAM !
I have to admit the Lo Res Upscaled Crap Resolution really tortured my eyes and made me wish I was playing my PS3 exclusive games at home in HD..lol
