GameSpy's GRAW 2 preview: Proof that PS3 owners don't need to fear 360 ports any longer?

GameSpy have received a number of emails asking why it is that games appearing on both the 360 and PS3 seem to score higher on the 360, and generally it's because the 360 seems to handle these games a bit better than Sony's machine. In GameSpy's video interview with John Carmack of id Software, the revered co-creator of Doom makes reference to an issue with the PS3's memory as a stumbling block for many developers which could account for this. Fortunately for the burgeoning army of happy PS3 players, however, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 could be one of the first games to serve as proof that poor ports needn't be the norm.

I am sure it will be close to what the 360 was, maybe better in some aspects and it should since they delayed in shipping it. I never got it even though I want it, just to much on my plate at the time. I will pick it up when it hit $20 or under. I really like the first one. That and COD2 where my favorite launch titles.

Now that I have made fun of both consoles, lets get serious. This is getting out of hand. It's been almost a year and the only game that could be mustered in the defense of the Ps3 is Oblivion. Not good.
When is this game due out. If Textures aren't on yet, you are looking at atleast another month of development and R&D.

Do you purposely misread the article in context with the reality of the PS3's hardware? Do we need to show you other games that are build for the PS3 that have NO framerate issues? Or did you miss that completely?

The article is addressing PORTS and game developers that do multiplat games. This is not a hardware issue. This is a dev/time issue.

This is a step forward though, we can see that teh redmond syndrom is subsiding a bit, and though it is taking longer than previous generations thats mainly because of how advanced the cell is, its so advanced that it is hindering the devs, until they figure how to utilize is better, which we are seeing happen.

Let some of the fresh ideas from the Sony side make games so they can be worked on and polished to 360 standards after releasing the title on the PS3 first.

People forget the PS3 has been out for only 9 months while the 360 is almost 2 years out, and the devs have been working on 360 for almost 3 years...just because GRAW 2 on PS3 is coming out 6 months later doesnt mean it has to be better, remember devs on 360 had GRAW 1 under their belts but on PS3 this is their first GR game...if next holidays (2008) the games still look better on 360 then we can say that 360 is better, but for now PS3 devs are just catching up...

The problem with the argument that you bring up is not that your wrong because your right that a demo is usually not the final build of a game. But in reality it might not be from a final build but people who play the demo will think that the demo will portray the game they will buy. So in affect it might not be the final build of the game but its what they will expect.

Also gaining interest is the same thing as I said in help making sales.

A demo purpose is to generate interest in the game, and can be at any stage in development. Its by no means has to be showing the final build of the game or even near completion. I.E. Halo3 beta users will be blown away by halo3 since they expect it to be like the beta.

The purpose of a demo is like the purpose of a Movie trailer.It teases the viewer w/ a short clip and generates interest. Its not to just model the graphics, but to reel in interest for a potential Buyer.

I will have to agree, the title was misleading on this News entry since Gamespy bags on the PS3 version. They do also go just off the demo as well.

Just some food for thought from a person whom job evolves around entertainment marketing.

Why are some of you still questioning PS3 power. Look at Killzone, mgs4 and more. There are no memory problems. Obviously porting games is not the way to go. The 360 is ok but don't compare it with PS3. It is not the same mashine as some programmers think. They just dont want to spend money on specialising the code for the PS3. Still I think this will be a great game, much better than rainbow six.

I think it's obvious why people doubt the power of the PS3, no proof. Killzone and MGS4 looks great but only come out next year. Next year the Xbox360 will also have greater titles released. The Ps2 was not. It was a different more complex design with h/w limitations that require a steep learning curve. Look how much trouble GG had with KZ which was meant to be a PC game.

2ndly the over heated xbox has been out for 2 years, and guess what that crappy games on it also. Im telling it made me crack up when ppl were actually raving about games like bejeweled on box. AGAIN bejeweled a game you play in the office or on the road on your cell phone.

If you notice most of the good games on the box are from developers that are used to programming for pc games. Hence the reason why so many of these games are the pc ALSO. Yet these fanboys dont like to admit it is multiplatform. And guess what these games also shift over to ps3.

At a programming and developement persepective the ps3 does ehave a higher learning curve than the xbox but the hardware it cpu has much more potential. And guess what the video card is basically a 7900 (in the ps3) basically has the same features as the x1900 (in the box) meaning they both have the same potential. And yes we all know the ps3 is not allocated the same way as the xbox ... but last the ammount of ram that is allocated to a vid card does not necessarily mean it will look better. ITS THE WAY YOU PROGRAM FOR IT. Obliviion, dirt, and darkness are good examples of good ports , I cant imagine what will be pulled out for t hose developers that focus on ps3 development.

Even the carmack says its more dificult to get the ps3 going (maybe because its new tech) but he said in the end the ps3 version will be more robust than the x360.

If you are a fan of the Ghost Recon series or even just a fan of good third person shooters, especially military, then you must get GRAW2. I don't know if you guys ever got GRAW1 but if not, hopefully they'll release that too. But GRAW1 was the first game I played on the 360 that let me know that the next generation has arrived. Seriously, you will have alot of fun. Also, if you like first person, you can also get Rainbow Six: Vegas...........I LOVE THAT DAMN GAME!!! Since when have any of us passed the firefighter's exam? I didnt think so, so let's stop it with all of these flamewars. I like games on my Elite and I like some of the games coming for the ps3. Games first.

I was always under the assumption that the pS3 was more powerful and eventually we'd see it over time as developers got used to the system. This could certainly still be the case as developers have been acclimated to the 360's development for far longer than the PS3, but I just don't know. You'd think that at this point we'd be seeing PS3 games that are equal in every way to the 360, instead of falling short here and there. Not that the PS3 is a slouch, but I'm disappointed as I've expected more from Sony. The system seems to lag behind in everything from overall software quality to game/demo releases.

The ps3's only drawback is its memory. Had it's memory set up been like the 360's it would blow it out of the water. Unfortunately it isn't and the cell is being held back by it. Games will look good on the ps3 however its not until the ps4 will gamers truly see what the the cell can do.
