First screenshots of Ico HD on PS3?

PSUNI writes: Are these the first screenshots of Ico HD? Or what we expect to be the ‘Team Ico Collection‘? We were hoping to see Team Ico’s first PlayStation 3 game, The Last Guardian, at the Tokyo Games Show but it’s not on Sony’s list. We hope they’re just bluffing, because Fumito Uedo was showing the game off just a day ago.

They make such pretty games and their worlds convey emotion. Felt so lonely during Shadow of the Colossus but I was in awe the entire time.

MmaFanQc5031d ago

obviously be released asap, its a great oportunity to replay the games in hd(and with trophy support)

buying dayone

AndrewRyan5031d ago

Can't wait for Shadows of the Colossus in HD. I was amazed at how good GoW1 and GoW2 looked in HD considering they were games from the Last gen. Trophy support aswell, it's a gamers dream.

Ocelot5255031d ago (Edited 5031d ago )

as long as they don't rape those games with move support, don't touch the gameplay, this should be a rule for remastering

Kain815031d ago (Edited 5031d ago )

as long as they give me options( DS3/PS-Move)i have no problem with move support...maybe they could improve the gameplay with it...who knows

sikbeta5031d ago

TGS pals, TGS is the Place to reveal the Team ICO Collection....

clank5435030d ago

Move could actually be really interesting on these games. It might help with things like the bow and arrow and what if they used that chameleon demo to be like the main character where you actually feel like you're climbing on top of the collussus. I'm thinking, with move implementation, Shadow of the Collossus, Ico, and the Last Guardian could be the flagship titles for Move according to the hardcore gamer.

WhittO5030d ago

Never played them so will buy it if released by what people are saying about it

Anorexorcist5030d ago (Edited 5030d ago )

But the namesake and the license is still talked about today in 2010 and is still fervently requested by PS3/PlayStation gamers. That in itself proves that quality and sales are not mutually-exclusive (You hear that, all your MS sycophants? Master Chief may get you all to call in and miss work/school the next day for midnight openings, but that doesn't mean he is an automatic winner).

WengYong5030d ago

Good point there, that alone speaks volumes for the franchise. I hope this doesn't translate into poor sales for The Last Guardian.

If they release this in HD I will pre order it asap. I need these games in HD!

RedDead5030d ago (Edited 5030d ago )

@Ano
Halo is a game made for nothing but fun. And yes it is great at that
Ico/sotc are games made to be talked about, it is art and a rare gem. It's like 2001 a space odyssey in a way.

gamingisnotacrime5030d ago

marinelife95031d ago

I've never played either Ico or SOTC. Day one purchase.

zireno5030d ago

even though I knew this collection was coming I couldn't resist buying shadow of the colossus for the ps2 last week although I haven't played it yet and I don't think I will until the collection arrives :)!! it's just this thing I have about owning the games for the system that was released and at 7 bucks it was a no brainer.

nintenflo5030d ago

I played ( and loved ) ICO but never played SOTC, i feel like i've missed out on a classic! :(

If this becomes true then its a day 1 for me too!! :)

ReservoirDog3165031d ago

They would be stupid if they never do an HD collection for Ico and SotC. Guaranteed money.

Megaton5030d ago

I never played Ico because it comes on those stupid blue discs that some really early PS2 games ran on, and those make my PS2 sound like it's revving up to explode.

fossilfern5030d ago

lol i thought that was just my PS2! that did my head in it was so fucking loud i couldn't play the thing when i got a blue disc game

PopEmUp5030d ago (Edited 5030d ago )

I burn the game and the sound is not that loud anymore :)

UP5030d ago

Its the Real Blue Ray disks

buckethead_X5030d ago

I bought Shadow of the Colossus for $5 and am waiting for the perfect opportunity to play it. I'm pretty busy. But yeah, day one purchase here for sure. I'll want to play these before TLG.

And Tim & Eric ASGJ is an amazing show. My friends and I yell "Spaghett!" at each other frequently.

Christopher5030d ago

Fumito Uedo is one of the true artists of gaming in our generation. So glad we have him and love his games.

If this is true, it will be pre-ordered as soon as it's own Amazon.com. Every gamer should experience his games at least once.

jack_burt0n5030d ago

its also time for this fanbase to start BUYING his frigging games the guy is a genius and a crucial pillar of playstation and i know he writes his own checks at sony but his games deserve to sell millions.

Traveler5030d ago

I'm crossing my fingers for this one. I absolutely cherish my copies of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, but I would love to play enhanced versions of them with trophy support. They are two masterpieces.

MagicAccent5030d ago

Let it be released in Europe or the US!

This is THE collection I've been waiting for.. SotC in HD...
Just thinking about it makes my mounth froth

frostypants5030d ago

We need more games like these and Demon's Souls.

Stuff like Call of Duty, Uncharted, Halo etc. are fun, but they are like fast food: enjoyable, but meaningless.

Games like Shadow of the Colossus, Demon's Souls, and even Limbo are more like art. They do things no one else has done, impose their atmosphere on you, and stick with you forever after you've played them,

Whatever1234565030d ago

Exactly what ive been trying to point out to others for so long, well said- Bubble up ^-^

Mastodon5030d ago

Yet at the same time someone could call running around trying to get out of a castle with a little girl or trying to resurrect your girlfriend by killing random creatures just as meaningless.

Art is in the eye of the beholder, While I'm with you in terms of "We need more of these" not everyone wants to play games that try so hard.

oh man i hope they do a Trilogy edition ICO; SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS AND THE LAST GUARDIAN in one pack..

postofficebuddy5031d ago

Yeah, and this time don't screw over people in America. I mean for crying out loud even Japan got the GOW Trilogy.

cjflora5030d ago

Even japan? Considering Sony is a Japanese company, I wouldn't think that would be that odd...

ArtsyGamer5031d ago

It's *possible* those pictures are from an emulator, but most likely they are working on this and those are shots from the game. The original game did not support widescreen, so getting those widescreen shots with an emulator would be difficult. They would be crazy not to re-release those two games with or before the Last Guardian. It would be the best marketing campaign conceivable, and it would make them money.

Sony Wishes Its State Of Play Was As Impressive As The Xbox Showcase

While the Sony State of Play had a critical lack of first-party titles and new stuff, Xbox came in hard and delivered one hell of an event.

Goodguy0121h ago

SoPs usually are quite underwhelming. Xbox did a great job and hope Sony learns

Cacabunga10h ago

It was a great show, but still a multiplateform show. xbox needed to give a sign of life, and they did. Sony on the other hand showed some console exclusives..
State of play was light yes that’s clear, but Sony is still planning to deliver console exclusives.

romulus2310h ago(Edited 10h ago)

The following games from the showcase are multi-plat and also coming to PlayStation and there may be more so perhaps what Sony learned was to let MS spend the money on advertising games for them.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Atomfall
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
Clair Obscur: Expeditions 33
DOOM: The Dark Ages
Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Fallout 76: Skyline Valley
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn
Life Is Strange: Double Exposure
MechaBreak
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Mixtape
Sea of Thieves: Season 13
WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers

Kayser819h ago

romulus23:
they are advertising GamePass which the none subscribers have to pay 70$ for it.

Hello_World8h ago(Edited 8h ago)

Buyers on PS help make Gamepass games even more profit by paying retail price, while Xbox gamers get all on day one using subscription. Huge difference.

ocelot073h ago(Edited 3h ago)

@Hello_World

You just made it sound like real life. Playstation = Hard working people who have to pay taxes.

Xbox = Jobless bums who claim universal credit benifits rely on the working class people to pay taxes so they can get free money.

Hello_World2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

@ocelot7

PlayStation equals hard working people because Sony isn't able to provide a day one subscription model?

If you want to fork over $1,000 to play these games and believe that's a good idea, you can. But don't hold it against others that are provided multiple options to play all these games.

crazyCoconuts1h ago

GamePass isn't cheap on console... Xbox players are paying for it. And the more MS puts on GP the more they'll eventually have to raise the prices. It'll all work itself out in the end I think.

blackblades8h ago

Sony been doing it before MS has for years, so they dont need to learn. If the time isnt right then the time isnt right.

-Foxtrot7h ago

I hope they learn aswell BUT looking at both sides at least Sony isn’t announcing games to show off again, and again, and again over a couple of years

While a good show there was a lot at Microsoft’s conference that were announced and shown off years ago. If Sony sticks to only showing off games when they are going to be released the same year then I kind of understand it but if they don’t then I’d be flabbergasted by it

1Victor6h ago

Let Sony do its thing when they drop the ball for gen and a half of duds shows then they’ll be even with Xbox and we should worry till then they earn it.
All that been said congratulations to Microsoft for finally doing the minimum of having good looking games coming soon took 100 billion to do it but hey gotta spend money to make money or so someone broke once said.

Mad_Matt23m ago

Its hilarious that the best a fanboy can do is provide a backhanded compliment. You console fanboys never fail to be entertaining. Sony, like MS is a company that provides products and services. Never should anyone say "till then they earn it" in regards to good will with its consumer base. This is how you get bad business practices. When Sony and MS dont provide value with its products, then they should be criticized. If they do provide it, then they are rewarded with your purchase. Any form of comradery past that is just shilling for a company for some sense of childish bragging. Unless you own stock in said companies, quit it. You make it way worse by being a fanboy. Corporations love blind sheep like yourself.

AsimLionheart5h ago

It was as much of a PlayStation Showcase as it was an Xbox Showcase. Most of the games they showed have been confirmed to be coming to PlayStation. Furthermore, even the ones they did not announce coming to Playstation yet are rumored to be coming to PlayStation in the near future. Sony will announce their first party games when the time is right. No point in announcing them 5 years in advance as MS did in 2020.

BehindTheRows1h ago

Sony releases good games. Xbox needs to learn from that.

It's embarrassing how "professional videogaming journalism" has fallen off.
Article written by a 13 years old full of acne.

Gotta start somewhere. Especially with computers and AI taking jobs from fast food joints and supermarkets which traditionally hire teens.

mastershredder31m ago

No, they get FREE help from grown ass adults who have their own limitations and bias and no understanding of what journalism is since they are trying to champion a topic by using basic connect the dot logic. Hence “high quality” article like this.

bunt-custardly1h ago

Problem isn't that really. It's @christopher for allowing such a clickbaity, console war encouraging, juvenile article in the first place on N4G.

isarai18h ago

I think people need to be aware that purpose of State of Play is updates on small scale and 3rd party games, their big scale showings are PlayStation Showcase.

18h ago
Stanlittle1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

June is for showing games been like that for 20+ years. Why Sony is just letting Xbox take all the spotlight makes no sense.

I think we may be witnessing the fall of PlayStation not because Xbox is good, but because PlayStation is focused on GAS and push to PC. Only fueled more now that Helldivers 2, a GAS that sold more on PC was a hit

Just look at the XBOX diversity in their console exclusive lineup

Gears 6 (cover shooter)
Perfect Dark (Mirrors Edge with guns)
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 ( the most insane flight/ all of earth sim ever )
Indiana Jones (First person take on a slightly over used genre)
Avowed ( don't know much about it)
Doom: The Dark Ages ( just an all out FPS and my PlayStation needs more fps)
Fable ( RPG that has better graphics than Hellblade 2)
State of Decay 3 (Open World Zombie Survival Game)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 ( post apocalyptic 1st person suspense)

I mean all that for what? $10 a month on Game Pass is bananas.

anast44m ago

Those Xbox games are coming to PS5, why waste the money? Xbox advertised those games for Sony and Xbox gets to push Game Pass.

derek28m ago

@Isarai, What exclusive games has Microsoft released this year? Lol. Playstation released Stellar blade, Helldivers 2, rise of Ronin, FF7 rebirth etc etc and it's only June. You xbox fans always do this, you have something positive happen for your platform of choice and immediately you start running your mouth about what Playstation is or isn't doing in comparison. Leave it alone, take your W and be content.

Aye. Usually I just use the "how submissions with most approvals" choice ..look what they are and approve. Wish we would have way more reviews here instead of opinion articles. So many of them are just bait.

They get written, approved, and many comments because that's what draws attention. Want it to stop, get people to stop clicking and commenting.

peppeaccardo10h ago

One one side a company that has brought real innovation in videos games with the first truly 3d graphics for mass entertainment, handheld devices, VR, great francises ... on the other side the Netflix of video games, and so .... who wants to be who? Let's stay focus and play some games kids.

DivineHand1252h ago

Rubbish. All 3 companies have brought innovation to the games industry. In fact, the Xbox 360 was so impactful that it shaped the feature set of gaming consoles to this day with Xbox Live, 3rd party apps, communication features, etc. Nintendo has always been innovative with recent additions being motion controls from the Wii and the portability of the Nintendo Switch. That led to devices like the steam deck, ROG, and the other nearly hundred handhelds.

Sony shares big new PS Plus stat, but not the one we want to see

PlayStation Plus has improved the split of PS4 and PS5 players on its priciest tiers, but Sony continues to hide total subscriber numbers.

lol acting like it’s equivalent to ms numbers

Mr Logic10d ago

Uh...They're definitely not equivalent.

"Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service now has 34 million subscribers."

"the total number of PS Plus subscribers across all tiers was 47.4 million"

darthv7210d ago (Edited 10d ago )

That PSN number seems like it should be much higher... especially when you consider that PS4 alone has a sell through of over 117m. To not even be at least half that is rather interesting.

To the XB side, having 34m to an install base of roughly 50m (XBO sell through) or even 85m (360 sell through) is a greater percentage of unit to member ratio than PSN.

bloop10d ago

That's not the "gotcha" you think it is Darth.

MS started lumping gold subscribers in with those GP numbers... keep in mind.

shinoff218310d ago (Edited 10d ago )

What. Definitely more os plus subscribers but that makes sense due to actual console sales

Darth the difference between the bases are huge your right but you gotta think. Ps players buy more games, where as the Xbox base relies on gamepass for their gaming. So it makes perfect sense

darthv7210d ago (Edited 10d ago )

What makes perfect sense though? You say PS players buy more games... so then logically there should be more PS+ subscribers given the increased number of online multiplayer games in the PS4 generation alone. The PS4 was the first time that + was required for online play much like Gold was for 360 users.

Keep in mind we are talking subscribers, not simply XB/PS users. I assume you meant to say offline single player games, which is most likely true as well. That gen also saw a significant increase in games with an online component comparted to the previous gen.

victorMaje10d ago

I for one will be going back to essential at the next renewal. When I feel a game is good & right up my alley, I’ll check trusted reviews & just buy it.

jznrpg10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

I have the top tier until 2028 as they gave me a massive discount for all the years I had left but I’ll most likely go to essential as well. I buy my games but my kids do use the service occasionally. They do prefer to own their games as well since any game can leave the rental service at some point and they don’t like that idea. They mostly use it to demo games then ask me to buy games if they really like it.

RedDevils10d ago

For me, I will cancel it all together but unfortunately I still have it till 2030 lol

meganick10d ago

I would like to see Sony add a fourth tier of PS Plus for people who just want to be able to play games online without any of the perks like monthly games, store discounts, or anything like that, and it should cost $20 annually, $30 maximum. There’s no way I’m paying $80 just to play games online. Even the original $60 fee was too much, and I would often wait for sales to re-up my subscription.

P_Bomb10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

Essential is too expensive, I agree. We’ve got one Essential and one Premium sub. Dropping the Premium when it expires.

gamerz10d ago

Just let my subscription lapse for the first time since 2010. Will sub again every now and then for a month or so to access my old ps+ games but for me it's the end of an era.

DivineHand12510d ago

Let those numbers continue to drop because it is now too expensive. $80 per year just to play online. I noticed they didn't offer any discounts on the subscription or controllers during this year's days of play for the first time in many years and they will feel it when people choose not to renew.

My subscription will lapse next month and it will stay that way until further notice.

KevtheDuff10d ago

There were savings on subs and controllers here in the UK? I bought a controller yesterday in the sale..
It would be weird if those deals were not in other territories too?

Sony Says The PS5 Is Its “Most Profitable Generation To-Date"

During Sony’s recent business segment meeting and investor presentation regarding its game and network services, the PlayStation company revealed that PlayStation 5 is the company’s “most profitable generation to-date.”

It’s the top slide of the presentation, showing that in its first four years, the PS5 generation has already hit $106 billion in sales, having almost caught up to the PS4’s total $107 billion generated.

Operating income for the PS5 generation has also already surpassed that of the PS4, having now reached $10 billion.

ApocalypseShadow12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

I wouldn't doubt it. They released a high quality system. A lot of high quality games from themselves and their support of 3rd party developers and indies. They released many high quality remakes and remasters. They released a high quality GaaS game going against the naysayers thinking Sony would abandon single player games. And they most likely are profiting a lot more than PS1, PS2 PS4 and the loss leading PS3 that drained all their profits.

Now, I'll wait to see what's cooking tomorrow. But can you use some of those profits to better support your high quality VR headset? Because, by supporting it, you can sell more games and more systems and make more profits?

jznrpg12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

I want RPGs for PSVR2! Good ones of course

shinoff218312d ago

If it had some rpgs I would buy right fking now. It looks dope and alot of fun, but it's biggest game resident evil 4(maybe) I've got no interest in. I'm not a fan of racing games, even with that metro game coming i was never much into that series. Rpgs would be fantastic.

MrNinosan12d ago

Lemme know if ya wanna play some Zenith 🙌
Bought it at release, but haven't played it more than 1-2 hours but for sure on my "todo list".

Cacabunga12d ago

Normal when they released mostly cross gen games so far. That’s a lot of money saved..
We haven’t seen what PS5 can do yet. 4years in and PS4 games still look great to me. The gen leap isn’t quite there yet.

--Onilink--12d ago

The interesting metric for me is the $106billion in operating income/profit (not sales as mentioned in the article) reaching the same as the PS4 did with only half the consoles sold.

In particular because they all are supposed to be making the most per hardware sold after a few years when manufacturing costs are down.

So even putting inflation aside(and the higher console price), it is interesting that they could reach PS4 $ with just half the consoles sold.

Maybe there is more to the metric thats whats seen at face value, but they have clearly been making a lot more money than before on the software side (with also less games released I suppose, given its only been half the generation so far)

VersusDMC12d ago

The bulk of the money has to be coming from the 30% cut on all games and microtransactions. Especially on all the free to play juggernauts like genshin, apex, fortnight, etc.

--Onilink--12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

@Versus

They are definitely making a lot on that for sure (which the $70 price increase factors into as well), but its not like many of those games werent around for the PS4 too.

They might be counting the gen as a whole and not just PS5 itself (so extra profit from PC sales, whatever that may be)

PS+ price increase and different tiers probably amount to part of that too.

But in general, its still quite a surprising metric. Half the time, half the consoles sold, less first party games released so far and still already making more of a profit than last gen is quite something, and as mentioned, there is probably more to it that we dont know, after all, since we are talking about operating income, all the expenses they have also factor into it, so it is also possible that they have found ways to significantly reduce that + all the means of increased revenue that appear to be factoring into the equation

All in all, just an interesting situation from a business perspective

porkChop12d ago

It's for the whole generation, so it would likely be including PC. They also make much more profit on digital sales vs retail, and digital is far more prominent these days. The generation also started at the height of COVID when everyone was home, spending far more money on gaming/hobbies. It makes a lot of sense for this gen to be more profitable.
