I love the cheesy "but you click etc..." arguments , it is well known thing that many people here comment without going into each articles or watching videos .

Hell some people even love to pontificate about others not reading the articles and judging from the get go with flamebait titles and first lines , but suddenly it doesnt work with HHG ?

The title and summary usually gives quite a lot of insight . Especially about some of the old HHG ludicrous announcements .

So no sorry , when someone comments about HHG , it doesnt mean that somone bothered with the content , or that he didnt . It means squat .

I can actually understand what HHG was saying when said it took Bungie awhile to deliver the quality that is Halo Reach.(not his exact words) I can understand that. But I think the area where he irks people's nerves is his exaggerated speculations. This can also fall back on the developers too because thy are way to secretive most of the time, Insomniac has yet to confirm Resistance 3, eventhough we know it's out there(add on the big @$$ billboard). Use intelligent words? Who gives a f*ck what type of words he uses? You do not have to watch the videos, therefore the way he talks is not affecting you. His dialect caters to a certain demographic, which is the hip hop community. The hip hop community has their own dialect, because of how they were raised and the environment they were brought up in. So some people enjoy that they can listen to someone that sounds like them, therefore relating. (hiphopgamer isn't the best representation I will admit, because he definitely butchers words much more, and his slang doesn't really sound natural, but he is the only representation of the hiphop/gaming community combination.)

What if damn near everybody talked with the hip hop dialect? You would feel the need to find someone who talked in a similar manner as you do, so you could relate to them and receive the news in a more comfortable way. Everybody doesn't talk like you, so STFU and accept it. Don't knock what he is doing, because it is beneficial to many people. If you become a developer, then refuse to deal with him. Or sh!t, just deal with it. Stop b!tching. The benefits he gives to the gaming community far outweigh the negatives. He represents for a certain demographic and is successful at doing it. He has interviewed many developers, so he deserves some respect for coming from nothing and becoming something. Stop hating.

I cannot believe I'm going to defend Jim Sterling, but there are two very key differences between Jim Sterling and HHG...

1) Sterling states his opinion (no matter how incredibly ridiculous it may be) and that's it. He does not make up stories or pretend to know things he doesn't know. In short, he doesn't lie.

In contrast, HHG constantly acts like he has some kind of inside information that he *does not have*, he's always making comments about some developer or another making some type of "exclusive" that he "can't talk about right now, but keep watching" because he'll "share more later" - hell, he even does it in the pod-cast linked to this story (at about the 15 minute mark).

2) Sterling is a very talented writer, has an fantastic grasp of the English language, and is an entertaining read even when I find myself strongly disagreeing with him.

HHG on the other hand has a poor grasp of English and as a result does a very poor job articulating his points (on the rare occasion he actually has a point). He comes across as extremely under-prepared in every video he does, as if he's just rambling incoherently.

The bottom line here is that Jim Sterling is good at what he does - even those that disagree with him often recognize that. HHG is not.

Wow i feel pretty stupid for defending this dude. I am able to see right the garbage now and not just the color of his skin. Its hard for me to even listen to 5 minutes of his show anymore even though i used to watch full episodes every week. I do fully believe he will do anything to further his internet "fame" and get hits for his "site" which is terrible IMO. He caters to fanboys, one week its anti PS3 article and the next its pro 360 article. I'm done with this show, the older episodes were ok but now its him stuttering and not knowing what he's trying to say or discuss. Its just painful to watch and for those of you who haven't seen his review war video go and check it out if you need a good laugh. Its total garbage and made absolutely no sense at all. On top of that he illegally used gamespot and IGN's review videos without permission.

I've read many of your posts over the last 6-9 months. I'm curious to know... are you positive about anything? That's not a dig at you personally, I'm just genuinely curious. You seem to have this elitist way about you, it shows in the way you write!

Do you do anything positive for your fellow man? I'm not talking about fixing machines of war for your (even higher than yourself) elitist employer. I just wanted to see what the real root cause of what makes you hate HHG so much? My common sense reasoning would be to just avoid anything to do with him, you know, ignore him completely... but that's just me!

Personally, I don't hate HHG, but I don't agree with everything he puts out. However, I believe it's his God given right as a human being, to post his articles & videos no matter how much he is wrong or messes up! I admit, I watch him weekly, although I usually don't completely finish watching his videos.

He might not be your cup of tea but maybe there are little ghetto kids (in hopeless situations) that like gaming and follow what he does. He just might be a big inspiration to them. I'm just trying to look at the bigger picture here. If you have been so observant of my comments... then why haven't you noticed 90% of the time I only responded to people directing hostile comments at me? This exchange with huey is a prime example. I log onto n4g.com some random person sends me a message... I respond. I will defend what my position is and if need be expose others for the bull crap they push.

I am a realists. If I am wrong I close ranks and move on. If I am right I offer proof and still get whiny responses. And yet again IF you read my post about HHG you surely have come across my opinion of why I dislike him. My opinion about his videos isn't special. It is the same as a lot of people on n4g.com. While he claims to report information that is credible. I dispute the validity of it and am never surprised at what I find.
I am not surprised bungie is at odds with what he says.

His review of mass effect 2. I commented on that his xbox account showed at the time he never played mass effect 1 or 2 but he claims to have played it thoroughly. To this day he still barely touched the games.

His claim of a rumor/lie he clearly started that bungie was releasing a single player campaign for the beta. No evidence released to this shows that is going to occur and why would it.

His outlandish titles. Need I elaborate?

And my opinion of his use of the English language is logical for anyone. In aviation I am required to communicate clearly and precisely. That is professional. HHG portrays his self as a public speaker by his chosen topic and audience which does not just include "ghetto kids" and given that make sure you are articulate enough to convey clear and precise use of English in order to reach all potential audiences who speak English. He failed to do that for me. I expect more from someone of his age which I am sure he is not a teenager like he sounds. Is he using slang in order to relate to an age group not of his own? Maybe. Maybe not. Still it leaves one logical point. Speak clearly and precisely and you access everyone.

I think my perception of his ability to report anything relevant is clear. I consider him the fox news of gaming. And just like how I call fox out on digg.com for there poor reporting of news I call him out here for his failure. If you can't do a good job then don't do it.
If that is elitist of me for wanting legit info on news 4 gamers then so be it. Label me as such.

As for HHG I've observed that he (in most cases) clearly states what's speculation, what's rumour & what's fact! Most of the time he states just his "opinion" or "point of view". Luckily, I have the ability to decipher what's fact what's fiction and don't let the BS affect me in any way.

You are correct with your next point in regards to the English language & public speaking. Seeing as I am a public speaker myself, I do get it, but not everyone does justice to the English language. Not everyone can do it. I've had Nigerian co-op students do their hours at my IT company and they have a very difficult time with English. Instead of pointing a finger... try reaching out a helping hand.

i'm not particularly a fan, but not because he talks slang, but because i'm not supportive of the constant sensationalism he employs to get hits to his site.

he most certainly gets interviews with some of the industries greats, and for that i can't help but respect his determination to achieve his dream, as well as his genuine enthusiasm for gaming.

there are a LOT more harmful gaming "journalists" out there in comparison to HHG, who use their status as an industry insider/spokes person to exploit their readers, and influence their perspective on the industry and gaming (ie, Jim Sterling at Destructoid, and the many tools at Edge).

i have to say that having worked in the gaming industry, i have noticed a marked gender and racial bias at certain companies (most notably Activision). i've talked it over a lot with my wife (who also worked at Activision at one time), and we both agree that the gaming industry isn't as equal and open-minded as i think it is.

i'm the last person who pulls out the racial card, but being a young black male myself, i can't and won't turn a blind eye when i see some obvious attacks on HHG that i think are racially motivated.

not everyone that's a HHG hater is looking at his race, but i've seen PLENTY of comments on this very site about his choice of music, the way he talks, the way he carries himself in his interviews.

i also sense a lot of jealousy from users on this site, who i'm sure are envious that HHG has the ear of the gaming industry, and connections that allow him to partake in events like E3 (which i hope to attend this year as well).

i don't understand why the people that hate him so much HAVE TO comment on every single article concerning him, spouting off the same thing each time. we GET IT. you don't like HHG. NO ONE is forcing you to read his stories, click on his videos, and watch them.

when i come across something i have no interest in i, oh, i don't know, MOVE PAST IT.

HHG being in the journalism industry is debatable, i would say he is more of an amateur video blogger since he isnt making a full time living from what he is doing on his website.

HHG and N4G have sold us out, modern gaming journalism is a haven for cheap hustlers and hacks

rational minded gamers please listen to me, HHG and folks like him are exploiting our love and enthusiasm for gaming for their own selfish purposes. HHG is a fraud putting on a minstrel show ( by minstrel show I mean he uses cartoonish stereotypes as a means to entertain, I'm a person of color from nyc and most of us dont talk this way). He spouts flamebait and lies in order to drive hits to his site and to make up for what he lacks in actual talent.

If N4G had any journalistic standards they would create an open zone for articles based upon the their content and the sources credibility. I am tired of having to sift through garbage in order to find actual news.
