Halo 3: ODST story is the smartest in the series

But there is the Xbox 360 owner who isn't such a big fan of the Halo franchise (like me) who wants to know if the game is actually worth the hype and the money or not.

But before I explain more about Halo 3: ODST, I want to clarify that I had finished all of the games in this very popular series and I have been enjoying the multiplayer portion from the series more than the story mode. But as I have started playing the campaign mode in Halo 3: ODST, I found myself sucked in the story and the atmosphere of the game this time more than what I had experienced before from the previous games in the series and I will explain why shortly."

The earlier books were fantastic. And what Halo 1 lacked in story it made up for in scope, atmosphere and mystery.

What in the world are you guys talking about. Who DIDNT like Halo 1's story mode? It's still THE best game overall (subtracting online multiplayer) of every released Halo game so far.

The story was the best of them all so far too and finally, Bungie seems to have gotten back to that with ODST.

Halo 1's story mode rocked and I can't even count the number of times me and buddies played through the story mode. I honestly don't know anyone who even remotely liked the Halo series didnt like Halo 1's story mode.

Halo has an excellent story. A bit on the "ordinary" and "cliché" side, but it has excellent "twists", unexpected endings and overall good characters you actually get to know very well, which is really rare for a military-style story.

What Halo DOES lack, is good presentation. Halo 2's story is pretty straightforward, but i swear MOST people did not even "get" it. It's presentation is bad and disorienting.

Halo games also make a poor job of recapitulating the previously told story in earlier games for newcommers. Most people who thought the campaign of Halo 3 was really poor did not play, or understand correctly Halo 1 or 2 (especially 2 since it's the most confusing of the trilogy).

Typically, people who rip on the Halo story do so because it's fashionable to rip on Halo in the first place. Somehow they feel it's logical to factor in the immaturity of the Halo Multiplayer fanbase into the quality of the game, when it's not logical at all. I'm not saying it's impossible to construct a valid argument against the quality of the games, but the general trend is to do so out of arrogance and ignorance.

This rehash get judged as harshly as Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 did. I'm pretty sure Game Informer gave Halo 3 a 9.75, Killzone 2 8.75, and Resistance 2 8.5. Halo 3 can't even compare to these games in terms of graphics or gameplay(more players in MP and better SP set piece battles, which is pretty much what makes a good FPS). Halo ODST will get the same scores that Halo 3 did and that will pretty much PROVE THE RIDICULOUS BIAS IN THE GAMING MEDIA.

Its a matter of opinion. Just because the Media does not agree with you does not make them biased. I personally found killzone 2 boring and so did a lot of people that I know. I never played res2 but tried my best to get into resistance 1. However I have beat every Halo game, except Halo Wars. I personally like Halo, but imo half life 2 is the best game ever.

Why is the term generic being thrown around when it comes to the Halo series? Is it being used because it's Humans versus Aliens? Is it because it's about the good guys winning the fight?

Halo's story is deep. Very deep in fact. With 6 games and 7 novels, the world and story of Halo is massive. There's nothing generic about it, unless you're trying to factor in the fact that it's good guys versus bad guys.

The story based off the 3 main games is about Master Chief. He is the last of the super soldiers named Spartans. He's accompanied by an A.I. program named Cortana. The plot of the story is that a race of aliens which refer to themselves as The Covenant have found or created these rings which are so massive, they house life on the surface. Nobody knows what these rings are for until the Prophets step in. They know the secrets to the Halo rings. The rings are used for the complete destruction of worlds. They are the ultimate weapon, and the covenant are trying to activate it so the Prophets can spread their word across the universe. Master Chief is the only man on earth who stands even the slightest chance of stopping these powerful forces. You meet a lot of characters, and travel across many plains. He's considered "the luckiest man in the world", as he falls through skies and narrowly escapes from mass destruction.

What exactly is generic about this? I want an extensive answer.

I HATE ON SOME GAMES (AND SYSTEMS) FROM TIME TO TIME. HALO WAS ONE OF MY TARGETS, AS I AM A SONY GUY.

However, HALO is a great franchise and I plan on buying ODST. (Started playing Halo 3, with my "sweet" priced 360 elite. It's pretty fun too.) I guess I hated Halo because of the racial smack, cry babies over the sniper rifle, and stat punks. Anyway, I loved HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED, and felt like the story went mainstream...just for bucks. On top of that, I felt hate Sony was deemed "The Evil Empire", for no real reason at all. Bottom line, Halo: ODST From what I have seen) looks like it will be great. I don't know much about the story, but as long as there are guns, the guy that says "KILLING SPREE" and "GAME OVER", and the same great soundtrack....this should just as epic as the others.
