Modern Warfare 2 - a new sequel, it could mean another direction

A look into the possible meaning of a shortened name for the Modern Warfare series.

So MW 2 will be more like special forces missions only? I loved that first mission, in COD 4 but it was too scripted/limited.

MW 1 was already special forces only. The SAS and Marine Force Recon are both real-world special operations forces (although admittedly, there wasn't a whole lot of actual recon in the blazing gunbattles of the John Wayne, i mean Marines, portion of the campaign).

I can only hope and pray that with a 'New direction" Maybe we'll get to see the otherside of war. I mean I was deployed and saw some crazy things and the truth is it's never "good vs bad" it's opposing ideals. If they can harness that.... it will be even better then COD4 I feel. But either way I'll still be happy =D Here's hoping

Sadly, the trailer suggests that IW probably intends to once again villanize the "evil Russians" as they did in Modern Warfare 1.

But there's always multiplayer =D

I think the last level on the plane where you rescue the VIP will be more like the levels in MW2. More tactical and less all out warfare.

Lack of split-screen hurt the value. I LOVE that game, still play it, but since COD5 was packing split-screen, MW2 best have it. (same engine).

Resistance 1 had it in campaign and R2 had it online, but a combination would be truly amazing.

I wish people would seriously stop overanalyzing the name change. IW just wanted to streamline the title so that it would be a title and a number (Modern Warfare 2) instead of a title, subtitle, and then a number (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2). It's a trivial adjustment, and I think people would stop treating it like a divine signal from the FPS gods only decipherable by those bored enough to figure it out.

KZ2 will be soon forgotten because it doesn't have a good and adictive multiplayer. Where as games like Cod4, GeOW2, and Halo3 will live on due to the immense popularity (and for good reason, they are super fun and addicting) of the multiplayer.

All are part of the dark forces universe. But outcast had stepped away from the original darkforces enough to drop its name. Thats what were seeing here modern warfare is far removed from call of duty so dropping the cod title fits with its new role. Will it still be seen as family to cod series yes but as a cousin rather then blood.

All I could really want is for them to improve their netcode, add host migration, add more custom classes, Trophies, and splitscreen. I don't see the core gameplay changing, because it WORKS.

The name change I feel will be JUST a name change, at least for now.

Infinity Ward should tell their story by letting you play from both sides of the conflict. In the real world, military versus terrorism isn't nearly as black and white as games portray it to be.

Considering Rainbow 6 lost its way, I would welcome MW heading in the direction of team tactical. As burnt as I am on COD multi, I play it as much as I used to play RS Black Arrow and Vegas. If they would just implement a decent cover system I would be completely sold.

calm down.... Modern Warfare will be cool. it will be more of Cod: Modern Warfare. I don't mind. and Killzone 2 won't be going anywhere.
I liked it but had trouble with the lagging controls. Never got used to it. Still bought it though. Sorry to get off topic.

Hardly a new direction i think we ll find the same adrenaline pumping action that we saw in the first modern warfare. My personal opinion is that IW didn't want to be associated to CoD:W@W which in my opinion was embarrassingly bad compared to CoD4. I've also seen from what other have thought that they changed the title because they can copyright "modern warfare" therefore Treyarch (when they don't make a dumb@ss decision to go back to WW2 again) can't use the modern warfare title.

Something tells me it was for IW to get away from treyarch. IW deserve better than to be sharing cod with them.

Stealth: I think stealth in campaign could be good, but NOT online, I think, and hope they will keep it the same style of gameplay.

.....a majority of that game you played as Soap, an SAS agent, not an American. And besides, the most "Holy CRAP" moment of the game (spoilers ahead) was when the american troops were caught in the nuke blast and you were in the helicopter barely alive and when you fall out of the back and look around was amazing, but really, you were mainly an SAS operative as opposed to an american soldier.

Look, it was a decent game but come on, the ONLY thing it had over COD4 was graphics and that was it. The single player sucked, the voice acting was marginal at best, the dialogue made Gears2 look like Shakespear (i mean the one dude who seemed to try to be the games version of cole was always spouting nothing but F this and F that and eFin every effin other effin word effin was effin F this effin F that).

As far as graphics, if it looks like COD4 or WAW ill be ok with that because as we all know graphics are not everything. Also, MW2 has been workid on for about 2 years and KZ2 was in development for what, 4 years or so? I would love to see IW work on a COD game for 4 years and see what they can churn out but, seeinig that they can produce an awesome looking game with great gameplay and an awesome online in only 2 years that is better in every way (except graphically) than KZ2 should say something for IW.

Anyway, its a FPS game by IW and not Treyarch and it is based in modern day and not WW2 SO, they could call it FLUFFY BUNNIES FROM THE PLANET FLUFF for all I care and it would still rock you like a hurricane.

I respect your opinion, but the only way COD4 is better is SP storyline.

In my opinion, after playing Killzone COD4 was shown to having terrible gameplay, which everyone accepted at the time. It was floaty, and too easy, my 9 year old cousin was coming 2nd to 3rd in games.

To win in Killzone (when assault is turned off) you actually require something called skill.

....how KZ2 hardcore fans call laggy and shotty controls "skill needed to play". I respect your opinion as well but, shooters need to be smooth, tight, and have a 1:1 input to action ratio. Im ssorry but having a delay does not mean it is for more skillful users, thats just an excuse people use to try to keep the game on top instead of pointing out that the devlelopers cant program for poo. You take a COD player into KZ2 and yea, even the top ranked player in the world would loose easy because of not liking the delay.

Yea, a 9 year old could maybe play COD all day but the reason is because they are smart enough to try a game, realize the controlls are laggy and suck ass and not bother with it. Kids are smarter and great at playing games then we give them credit for so using that to try and slander a game is retarded.

At any rate, I give KZ2 props for its look but, the gameplay is busted. Also, now most online games are now rocket fests due to a ton of classes being unlocked.

Anyway, give me a shooter with 1:1 responsive controls any day over one that has lag and has its developer say it is like that on purpose.

Seriously, yes I'm a hardcore Killzone fan, but before that I was a hardcore COD4 fan for almost a year.

Killzone is IN MY OPINION the better game, the controls may lag, but I don't give a damn, it looks, feels and plays great, and has fantastic clan support.

You can play Call of Duty if you like I don't care, I just believe that if IW took a few things from Killzones book, the game would be much better.
