So I've never played PC DOOM (virtually all versions, including the N64 release), PC WOLFENSTEIN, HALF LIFE (along with BLUE SHIFT and OPPOSING FORCES), HALF LIFE 2, PORTAL, QUAKE, QUAKE 2 (one of my favourites), QUAKE III ARENA, UNREAL (yep, the first one!), DUKE NUKEM, BIOSHOCK, FEAR 1 and 2, every CALL OF DUTY, every MEDAL OF HONOUR. GOLDENEYE 64 and dozens of others on the PS2 I can't even remember the title of?

I admit that my 360 FPS gaming is limited to the risible QUAKE 4 (the best part of which was the free QUAKE 2 it came with), but with all those games under my belt, I STILL think KILLZONE 2 is at the top of it's game and deserves all the praise it's garnered.

The Halo franchise is nothing special either, most of what it did had already been done before on FPS games (PC or console; but you must know that since you are apparently an FPS nut, in spite of the fact that you list no examples, only fanboy gibberish) and yet you choke on its devs' love juice, or should I say Microsoft's love joice?

Halo 3 is not a graphics powerhouse, its storyline is boring, and the campaign is too short. Multiplayer was topped by COD4, then by Resistance 2 (not like you'll give any credit, as you'll say it's "generic" with no explanation at all), then Killzone 2. As for co-op, Resistance 2 and Left4Dead are much better at that.

As far as story and gameplay goes, I do agree that KZ2 is not the best, the Orange Box and Bioshock are the best FPS from a single player standpoint. They are definitely the single player campaigns to top in terms of originality, fun and artistic beauty.

KZ2 is not the best in terms of screenshots either, Crysis does look better in screenshots. However, the animation in Killzone 2 is much better. The lighting and the amount of effects on screen is impressive. The physics, the explosions, the amount of particle effects is insane.

But what makes Killzone stand out is realism in terms of controls. Most FPS on the market control like arcade games, they assist you to shoot, that includes Halo and Resistance among others. Xbox fanboys like you won't admit it, but the supposedly bad controls you guys love to complain about (in spite of the fact that you've only seen Killzone 2 and probably never played it) actually require skill from the player to aim. Not only is there no auto-aim, there is a feeling of weight and there is recoil. Furthermore, Killzone 2 implemented a relatively good cover system that should be implemented and improved upon in other shooters from now on.

Not like you matter but just FYI, my FPS pedigree includes Wolfenstein 3D, Duke Nukem 3D, Doom 1 to 3, Heretic, Hexen, Doom 64, Turok 64, Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, Quake 1 to 4, UT2004, UT3, Medal of Honor Frontline, Halo 1 to 3, Black, Resistance 1 & 2, Half Life 1, The (whole) Orange Box, COD2 to 4, CoD:WaW, Left 4 Dead and Killzone 1 & 2. If I'm not forgetting others.

Anyway, owning only a PS3 makes anyone look foolish and ignorant? Maybe you're right, but only owning a console that breaks every three months, has no guarantees on timed exclusives, charges you to pay for a service that is free and just as good somewhere else (PSN and PC) would probably make you oblivious to how retarded you sound, especially after there's so much available information on the threads and forums you hang out.

I only own a 360 game for multiplatform titles, as apparently every game I wanted on it is getting the port treatment or it gets two additional frames per second. Have fun waiting for multiplatform games. Oh, and Alan Wake.

I´ve almost finished the single player now and I must say that this game is frickin action packed! Sometimes I got to put down the game because the action gets to hectic and it feels like my brain going to explode, no kidding! And that´s a good thing :-)

You just have to get the hang of it, I actually did pretty good right off the bat because I played Black before. You should mess around with the sensitivity & see what you like better. Go for head shots too, it puts people down a lot faster. I def. could tell the controls were diff. with the update. Believe it or not my best killing streak is 8(assault rifle) & that was before the update. Did anybody else think the old controls were better like me? It made it feel like you were in the game more, the update made the online play a tad bit faster imo.

I find that aiming in FPS games using a DS3 or Sixaxis just fine. I dont see the difference between my 360 controller except sometimes when i press down on the analogue stick of the 360, it feels like im gonna break it.

I've never once had a problem with the DS3 controller setup. I've used just about every controller, and to be honest, it's the one I like the best, it's all preference. Maybe you can't play good with it, so its a "pain" for you, but for others it's all good.

I seriously can't understand why people say the single player was not memorial.
It had some of the most memorial scenes I've ever seen in a game, let alone a FPS ie Radec killing the biggest Killzone legend Jan Templar (I nearly cried at this scene), the train level, the final boss fight with Radec (I loved the way how he just shoots himself at the end), the New Sun level (You honestly cannot say that this level did not amaze you), the death of Garza (I actually did feel bad for him) and not to mention the final battle in the capital.

Killzone 2 was much more memorial than FPS such as COD4 ad R2. I'd even go as far to say it was just as memorial as Bioshock.

The only problems I had with the game is the horrible voice chat. I hate being in the mist of battle and having to hear everyone around me with their broken @ss mics. Also, its a pain in the @ss just to find a game that you and your friends can all play together. It literally took me and my boy an hour before we got in a game that we both fit the criteria for because Im maxed out and hes just a beginner. I know that I could just start my own game, but one day I played a game I created for 2 hours and nobody bothered to come.

No invites option sucks. The controls are far from the best. One head shot kills are cool, but it literally takes me a whole clip to kill someone. One time I shot someone with a shotgun five times and he didn't die. Don't even say its because I suck because Ive been in the top 10 percent players for 2 weeks in a row, plus my shotgun accuracy is over 95%.

I will have to say that everything would be alot better if they put the bots back in. Then me and my friends wouldn't have to wait hours just to find a game we can both play or dont have to wait for people to join. Most of the problems above would be solved if that happend, but this is the playstation that I am talking about. You have to wait for months for anything to get done.

BTW, before any of you call me a fanboy or troll, I just wanna say that you guys are in denial if you really feel that way. Just because someone points out the bad things to a game doesn't make them one. I just wanna see those things fixed. I dont care so much for the controls, but Im used to them. Everything else is fixable, we just gotta get on them to fix it.

I feel sorry for anyone who thinks im a fanboy. Your in total denial if you think so. Im on my 3rd ps3. Ive spend over 2 grand games alone. Ive bought damn near every system ever made. I love games. Okay, I think people are going slightly overboard with the Killzone 2 praise here. Currently it stands as one of the best games this generation, but one of the best games ever? Come on.

The online aspect of the game needs work, the system in place to join games is archaic when compared to the party system in use with games such as CoD4 and Halo 3. There's also no telling if the game you're joining is default rules or assault disabled etc.

On the topic of Assault class, please, just remove it, compared to other classes it's far too rewarding in relation to how skill-less it is, the problem only worsens as more people unlock the engineer secondary.

What's great about these problems though, is that they can all be fixed over time, the core gameplay is excellent, easily the best first person shooter on the PS3 and the closest game to my personal favourite FPS of this gen, Halo 3. To me it's the closest thing in style to my favourite game of last gen, Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow.

It's becoming contentious to give a big dollop of praise to KZ2 round here without getting peoples backs up for some reason.

I've got all three consoles and have played every big shooter on each one at some point and while Killzone2 doesn't innovate in the ways people look for what it does do is offer a very intense SP with a great FPcover system, the best visuals around, INDIVIDUAL controls to give it it's own feel rather than being a COD4 control clone and a deep progressive MP class led system online. Honestly, I think as it came from a lower place than say, Halo 3(which, imo, wasn't as good an experience in SP as H2 was), following the ambitious failure of Killszone 1 it had more room to improve and the fact that neither Gears2 nor R2 got everything right also gave KZ2 more of a chance to do what it does-shine up the FPS experience while feeling like it's own game.
It does everything as well as it can do(controllers and controls are preference, imo, as I prefer the DS every time due to being a lefty with small hands and can easily understand the opposite view)and for me is the most complete FPS at the moment. I love the game and , though I'm a fan of the PSP game(Liberation)as well, it feels more like a bew IP than anything else and as such to polish the basics(which it does very well) and add great touches to make it feel different(eg the Sixaxis stuff on the sniping)was the wisest, if after the hype and gfx less mindblowing way to go.
The DLC will be very interesting though and could expand the template vastly. Please don't allow the hype to let you ignore the good honest game in here as it's a very sharp proposition. That said I've heard that ODST might well address a few of the quibbles(and really that's all they are) with Halo3 so the FPS crown as far as exclusives go(therefore ignoring MW2 and O:F)could be set for a real battle over it this year. Lets hope so(and even that The Conduit controls well enough , and does it online too, to provide a proper challenge on the Wii)as this arms race can only benefit gamers in general.

This is probably gonna somehow get me attacked, but yeah I traded it in. After a few weeks of trying to get into...I just really couldn't. I guess I could sit back and watch someone really really good play it as it is visually stunning for the most part. Tho to sit there and actually play it was more of a chore than anything else.
Then you get online...uhg...unless you have a large group of friends it is nothing but a disastrous unorganized mess. Little to no communication and lone wolf mentality all around. The time when teamwork was actually happening provided some good gaming to a certain extent.

I just argued how Killzone 2 online needs alot of tweaking. I will say, however, that killzone 2 is way better then gears. Gears online is even worse then killzone 2 when it comes to online. The weapon balancing is pretty much nonexistent. The first player to the best gun wins. That is lame.

Also, everyone talks about how bad ass the lancer is, but you have to put a whole clip into someone just to put them in last stand, them someone comes up behind them and revives them is dumb. At least in Killzone 2 you have a class system with a medic that is made for that specific purpose. On the other hand, at least gears has a party lobby system. When are we gonna get a game that does it right you ask? I guess we will have to wait for the new COD?

It could well be argued, that as a franchise, Resistance is still the stronger IP. As good (or great depending on your tastes) as K2 is, K1 was simply average. The Resistance brand has provided two high quality offerings to the Killzone one. Either way, if you own a PS3, you are sitting rather pretty in the FPS department, and that's leaving out a multi-system heavy hitter like the COD (MW2 anyone?) series.

Sure its a great at refining already used and refined concepts, without adding a single noteworthy innovation...although speaking ill of killzone is like posting a sign that says "Take Away My Bubbles". What FPS game in recent memory would you say does it with a unique, forward-thinking style and isn't cliche? I'd say really only Bioshock has managed to do something different, as it brings a whole new storytelling and gameplay experience than what we normally see in FPS games these days.

You could at least mention the excellent cover system, which to me felt like nothing any FPS game has done before (not even GRAW does it the way KZ2 does).

Well yes the cover system is there, but thats only in the single player, and the fact that it has already been done with relative success already, really doesn't make it more ingenious.
The cover system is not bad however, it compliments the single player nicely and adds a slightly more strategic element then would be found in say COD4 or waw, but it doesn't bring as tactical approach as games such as GRAW or Rainbow six Vagas.

Although its hardly drastic, and hardly new.

I don't know about you guys but I just couldn't get into it. I traded mine in yesterday, I gave it 1 more try just to be sure i wasn't making a mistake an final decision was it had to go!! it came down between SF4 an KZ2 at the register an since both games are fairly new an they gave a lot for the trades an I only needed 1, so it was KZ2 that got the boot. it made no sense for me to keep it, my 2 other friends that bought it also traded theirs in, so without me playing with them really hurt its chances for staying. neither gave a reason other than THEY JUST DONT LIKE IT!! I tried to MAKE myself like it but I just didn't like the feel or the game play!! so I bought NBA 2k9 an guitar hero 3 instead.

It delivers on one thing more than any other game i've ever played.

Alot of people say that its "bland and grey" and "doesnt have a very wide colour palette",but these are the people who haven't played it.
The way smoke drifts across the battlefield,muzzleflashes lighting it up like a solar eclipse,and theres no worse feeling than reloading and seeing 4 pairs of glowing red eyes coming through the smoke.
It's INCREDIBLY tense,and puts you on the edge of your seat during big fights(last level,palace doors anyone?),the whole point of the game was to deliver an experience of cinematic war,and it does it perfectly.

Killzone 2 takes more skill than any other Console FPS shooter out right now. For those of you who want to invest time to learn how to play this game you will realize how much satisfaction it gives you when you kill someone.

The one main thing about this game that will make it harder to learn is the fact that there is no Auto Aim. Those of you who are used to COD 4 Auto Aim Assist, you will need to realize you cannot just hold down the trigger and expect to get a kill instantly.

You also need to learn how use left and right analog stick at the same time. Since there is no auto aim if you can move left and right while aiming you can really become a killing machine. You can't do this in COD4 because of the Auto Aim. COD 4 Auto Aim is like as long as you swing the bat within 1 feet of the ball you will get a hit.

TIP: The Shotgun is deadly at close range and in buildings when there is no room to move. When you see a shot gunner he will almost always try to get close to you. Keep your distance and move left to right as you shoot him with your rifle.

Clan Matches: If you and you friends want real competition then form a clan.
Make sure you have more than one tactician on your team that know when and where to throw the spawn points. You are only allowed two spawn point at one time. When and where you throw the spawn points can influence the outcome of the came.

I think your confusing difficulty with game mechanics. Theres a reason most console games have auto aim, this is because a controller is willfully inadequate to make the minute changes required to keep the reticle exactly on the target. KZ dropping auto-aim, doesn't make the game more difficult in the sense that you have to use tactics and cover to defeat your enemy by utilizing complex game mechanics, killzone makes the game more difficult to play in general by making aiming harder, this is the same stunt Resident Evil 5 pulled, and while it does make the game "Harder" to play, Its for all the wrong reasons.

Personally ive found it easier to get the Heavy machine gun or Helghast rifle, and not even bother with aiming down the sight. Maybe Im doing it wrong, but my KDR is still way above 1.0.

You are Wrong about why console games have auto aim. I have been gaming for a long time and I have been playing against players that are as good as me or better on PC before I move to Console only. Example: Take Starwars Battlefront 1 & 2 for instance. This was one of the most popular multiplatform games out for the PS2 and Xbox. And it has Auto Aim.

When you turned Auto aim on it locked you on to the target and then all you have to do was shoot. But if you wanted to play competitively in online tounaments clan matches then you had to learn how to play with Auto aim off.

Auto Aim Gaming has changed: Games like COD4 and Halo now have Auto Aim Assist which is a more subtle version of auto aim. No longer will you just lock on to the target but as long as your reticle is near the target it will adjust your aim. Don't believe me then the next time you snipe someone on the other side of the map just follow that person into the trees and pull the trigger. As long as he doen't stop you got a kill.

Bottom Line: Auto Aim games are more popular than Games without it. The sad part is they don't allow you to turn it off for gamers that want it to be more challenging. And in the process training the next generation of gamers to be noobs.

Question: name a console shooter game on the Xbox 360 and Ps3 that is as popular as COD 4 and Halo that doesn't have alot of kids screaming in the mike?

You will find they are all games with out Auto Aim.

I'll compare killzone in my own point of view to the other top shooters i was playing beforehand.

Resistance 2 online -
massive 30-a-side fights that go well when everyones working on the same page,yet can quickly turn into a full scale mess full of people running around aimlessly after a short space of time.

I got incredibly bored of COD4 because of it,online and campaign just didn't feel like it posed a challenge anymore.

COD4 online -
playing a match of "same team,everyone does there own thing"
where a single star player can win a full match by himself and pretty much carry the rest of the team.

Killzone 2 online
play a constantly changing and challenging battle against another team that FORCES you to work together if your going to win.
the snipers have to have people covered,
the tacticians have to keep spawn points up to get the advance moving,
the medics have to keep the casualties to a minumum so the assault doesn't falter in no mans land.
Killzone is just full on test of skill and teamwork compared to alot of other FPS's,refusing to hold your hand with quick healing and shedloads of auto-aim,it really is a "get good or get out" kind of play.

I personally found Resistance's 30 player matches to be fun, BECAUSE they were chaotic. It gave the game an honest sense of bewilderment and chaos as you were trying to fend off 8 people simultaneously firring Auger rounds at you.

But maybe Im just weird.

I think the only thing that's changed with the aiming is the range.
I can remember aiming in COD4 when the person i was shooting at was about 10 foot away,which realistically you wouldnt do,you would just fire from the hip/chest height knowing he's going to go down.
With killzone the fights are much longer range,you need to be more sensetive with moving as you could quite easily overshoot/undershoot the mark,requiring you to have alot more patience overall and not just shooting the second you see somebody.you actually have to line up the shot and wait until they hit the "sweet spot" distance wise,where you know you have a high chance of getting a quick and clean kill.
Killzone does have sensetivity issues,i changed the layout to Alt 2 and ramped the X and Y pretty much to the top and it does seem alot more fluid.
Bubbles for you anyway,for actually putting up a valid point instead of "Monotonous gameplay. Perfected"

Edit - yeah the bewilderment is kinda funny and good as your playing it,and it definetly isnt a bad game,i just prefer the tactical gamestyle more,Killzone does have a more chotic and desperate feel to it,but i put that down more to the audio than actual gameplay.

I have noticed your point as well, where It requires alot more time to set up a shot from a distance, but if done correctly, its still effective, however I think the real difference In COD and KZ matches is the mid distance combat, In Killzone Middle distance combat is a little harder to pull of because you dont have the all important "time", Normally In a middle range situation I either run at them firing from the hip, or run away to surprise them with a grenade.
As opposed to call of duty where lining up the sights at midrange was simple (auto-aim helped) while long range required less setup and more quick succession of shots.
Killzone definently is trying to lean more towards the tactics then the twitch, I just cant help but think they could have done a little more.

And on the subject of resistance, I really liked it because it took a much more varied approach toward combat, causing you to approach a situation with a much more open mind.

Hopefully they could implement a minor patch that would make mid-range fighting slightly easier,without damaging the long range fights.

COD is game does not require much skill. COD 4 allows less skilled players to compete with more skilled players but doesn't allow more skill players to compete with more skilled palyers. That is why I never really took the game seriously. If they had allowed you to turn the auto aim off then that would allow gamers like me to enjoy that game more.

Their is no need for a patch in Killzone 2 except maybe Auto Aim on and off Servers. But then again alot of people would say no to that.

The only issue I see here is it harder because you have no Auto Aim.

best shooter ever! man people have become so good at the game now when you spawn its so hectic at times, the enemies are already at your spawn point and players dying everywhere bullets flying and you see nothing but fireworks of bullets shrapnel flying all over place totally amazes me and all this happening at the same time! man true power of the ps3..... also if you have a headset and your annoyed by voice breaks-ups and busting your speakers just turn your headset on and leave it on.

Long range is fine.
medium range fights can get a bit tedious at times,just seems a tad sluggish when trying to get the aiming reticule where your trying to get it to be,in such a very short space of time.
If GG were to put in any form of auto-aim into KZ2 online,that would be the deathblow for me and i would more than likely stick to single player.
More response between me inputting what i want to do with the controller,to it actually being done.

So lack of a party system online(besides clan matches), no multiplayer cover system, bad controls, ridiculous auto-aim(fixed with update?), a shallow story, endless cursing & cheesy dialogue, alternating game modes in multiplayer, and doing absolutely NOTHING different from other FPS's is perfection? Hardly. But to a ps3-diehard, I'm surely just making this up.

the game is very addicting (online and off). Sometimes I have to force myself to stop playing so I can enjoy other titles. Like LBP. Finally finished the story mode. Free paintball gun, weee!

I'm under the impression that the only people who say this are people taht haven't really played the game and are just making vague and generic statements. Its rediculous.

And what is the comparison to COD4, because in the 16 days of online time I put into COD4, not once did I say . . . Wow, what an innovative and new twist to the FPS genre. COD4 is as generic as it gets but it doesn't matter because the game is FUN! Most FPS games do not "innovate" but if you actuall put some time into KZ2 then you would see where it has in fact added "innovations" to teh FPS genre:

1) Best of 7 changing objective matches. I can't believe people don't bring this up. Its a brilliant idea and I hope Modern Warfare 2 integrates this game mode into the COD franchise. To go from a team deathmatch style match directly into an assassination mode then to search and destroy then domination then search and retrieve then back to team deathmatch, etc. all in one match is incredible and forces you to be a better player. Its the best addition to the online FPS multiplayer genre in years,

2) Class customization. NO PERKS (Juggernaut, martyrdom, etc.), instead you build your own players strengths as you develope in the game. You can blend the attributes of multiple styles into your own character to blend with your playing style. This makes the cooperation within the team more important as there are specialized soldiers within each unit.

Those are two very nice additions that Killzone 2 has brought to the table. It doesn't change the genre and I don't think there will ever be a FPS that ever will. As time goes they will add little things to improve upon what already works and that is exactly what Killzone 2 does. It takes everything great about FPS games adds some great online features and CRANKS UP THE ACTION with mind blowing graphics, sound, effects, and realism. Playing KZ2 then going back to COD is unreal. KZ2 makes COD feel like slow motion and second rate. This game is amazing and the fact that people are still writing (and arguing) about it shows the impact it has made on the gaming world.

And for the controls, they even put out a patch so you whiny girls could play and stop crying. If you're that much of a COD drone then tunr the controls to ALTERNATE 2 and turn the X AXIS SENSITIVITY to 75% and whallah !!! Its COD controls all over again.

Seriously people, cut the crap. Put you fanboyism aside and enjoy and appreciate this game for what it will do for everyone. THIS GAME RAISES THE BAR, it will force all devs for all consoles to make better looking games for both PS3 AND Xbox 360. Games like KZ2 up the anty. Fable is awesome, Gears is awesome, Halo is one of the best online multiplayer games there is, MGS4 is incredible, Resistance is awesome, LBP is awesome and connects people in a way never before by a video game, Uncharted is awesome, Mass effect is awesome. Get the point. THESE GAMES ARE ALL GREAT.

TRY having some fun with video games instead of criticizing them worse than a movie critic rips apart a movie.
