Of course it is this is why big companies gobbling other companies is bad.

Cacabunga21d ago

yes and this is what happens when you sign pact with the devil himself..

rakentaja21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

The situation looks like this in reality. Of course, I don't know all the nuances, but an independent studio generally wants to go under a big company to get financial backing so they can make the games they dream of. Then a bad game is made...for some reason...the big company gets disappointed, a lot of money was spent on them and they had to shut down the company they bought, because they lost faith in them. That's exactly what happened. I don't know what happened to Tango...

I_am_Batman20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

@rakentaja: You don't need to sell your company to get financial backing. Not to mention that the idea that you're going to be allowed to make the game of your dreams under a big publisher is naive to begin with.

More often than not, indies are just bad at the financial side of the business. It's common to underestimates the production budget needed and hire too many people leaving the studio in a vulnerable position. A lot of them sell out of necessity, not because they want to.

crazyCoconuts21d ago

There are textbook scenarios where it's good...
Microsoft is definitely not one of those scenarios

RhinoGamer8821d ago

I get it, but frankly, AA failed pretty badly on Redfall. The XBOX production team is also to blame (they are safe as usual) for releasing a game this hyped in a sorry state. There are lots of fail points on Redfall, but only Arkane bears the pain.

MrBaskerville21d ago

They were set up to fail by Zenimax and had been for a while. They should have done Prey 2, but instead were forced to do mp games.

-Foxtrot21d ago

Apparently even with Prey they wanted to name it something else, they didn't want to use the Prey name because it had nothing to do with it.

That alone put a lot of people off playing it out of support for the original.

MrBaskerville21d ago

@Foxtrot
Yeah, it was a mess, that whole business. Could probably also have done a killer Dishonored 3 if given the chance, right after Prey, when they had a top tier team.

darthv7221d ago

the game (at launch) certainly wasnt all that. the performance update later on made it better but Im glad I got the special edition controllers when I did. Those are nice.

crazyCoconuts21d ago

True. We don't know exactly who to blame for what, but end of the day you're not getting paid to put out crappy games.
I hope at least they kept the good people and moved them into other divisions

PapaBop21d ago

"Welcome to the Xbox family, graveyard is out back, what should we put on your epitaph?" Microsoft turning into this generation's EA, spend all those billions on Activision while closing studios they've run into the ground.

TheColbertinator21d ago

lmao forgot about that meme. Still pissed at EA for shutting down Westwood, Pandemic, Origin and Maxis. I will never forgive them for that.

Hofstaderman21d ago

Papa Satya wants his ROI. No free lunch.

rlow121d ago

Why I’m really disappointed in Xbox and MS at large. At the same time let’s not pretend that somehow this isn’t an industry issue. Theirs a graveyard behind every major publisher. The only company I haven’t seen canning people is Nintendo and let’s hope that trend continues.

That's great news. Hopefully the Coalition can smooth some of those edges from the last Avowed reveal.

phoenixwing8h ago(Edited 8h ago)

Well I'm annoyed. Especially at all the ppl who said the graphics sucked. It's your fault they probably shifted the game to unreal so it could look more fancy for you. I was ok with it and hoping to actually play it sometime soon. Now it's like 99% chance it's delayed.
Edit: effing graphics whores

Lightning777h ago

Apparently the latest build looks way better graphically. This rumor from Jez Cordin (who's credible) pretty much confirms it.

Interested in seeing more on Avowed in a few weeks.

Steam Account Transfer Via Will on Death is Not Permitted, Valve Confirms

In case you were curious, a Steam account transfer via will is not permitted according to an official response from Valve.

anast17h ago

The games are theirs. People just pay to ride the ride.

Skuletor33m ago

Would be nice if the article's writer looked into and reported whether other digital game libraries could be transferred over via will (Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo, EGS, EA app, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, Rockstar Launcher etc) instead of this half-baked piece but it's probably the same for all of them anyway

Kornholic17m ago

This seems like a way bigger issue than mandatory PSN account linking for PlayStation games.

So where is the outcry?

CDPR say Witcher 4 will be different from Witcher 3: "We don't want to be stuck in the same spot"

The next Witcher game will still be an RPG but players can expect new things as CD Projekt Red want to push boundaries and discover new ways of storytelling.

Terry_B14h ago

Each of the 3 existing Witcher games is pretty different from each other..

just_looken9m ago

They were different because they went from being a port studio with there last port being the god awful saints row 2 pc port to making the witcher one.

The first witcher was there first actual game with there own engine the 3rd one showed there years of experience/in house engine improvements.

This witcher game has very very few of the original people behind it and its using unreal engine like so many other games.

The big elephant in the room is that they are now proudly esg supports and go to a panel of esg reps to approve there games now.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

The is cdpr 2020's not the 2010's cdpr we used to know.

https://www.gamesradar.com/...

Take the blood/sex/nudity/adult humor/combat system/rpg mechanics/writing/story charecters/art/design and there passion/drive from the first 3 games throw it in the fucking trash there now you got what they have right now for the witcher 4.

New engine new writing team new everything even esg leadership so yeah "Witcher 4 will be different from Witcher 3"

Kaii14h ago

My only issue with 3 was with the combat

bRuud832h ago

Combat was never the strongest part of the series.

just_looken8m ago

True but anyone that thinks witcher 3 2.0 combat is bad would never get past the first section of witcher one.

Profchaos1h ago

I felt 3 was ok took a long for it to click but I tried 2 and I found combat controls to be my biggest barrier to actually enjoying it was about 50 times clunkier than 3

thorstein16m ago(Edited 16m ago)

I thought the weakest point was the copious amount of dialog. Sometimes less is more. I remember clicking through just to get to the objective.

helicoptergirl14h ago

Bethesda seems like a studio that is "stuck in the same spot". Development wise. Glad CDPR are wary of that element in game design.

Hugodastrevas3h ago

This can either go very well or very badly. I hope the latter.

just_looken6m ago(Edited 5m ago)

That is on your mobile device they copied pokemon go few years back
https://www.thewitcher.com/...

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

It was such a flop they removed the videos and removed the link to that article but its still on there servers.
