‘Palworld’ Has Lost Two-Thirds Of Its Players In Two Weeks

Forbes writes: "I do wonder about what things look like for Palworld in the long term, however. Was it just a “craze” that will keep losing players precipitously? Or is it something that will indeed have legs and while maybe not be a direct Pokemon rival, something that can at least take some big bites out of the seemingly impenetrable franchise."

Which isn't abnormal. The game has an end and hasn't added any new content yet. Not to mention all the bugs and fixes it needs which make me not want to play. The game will only get better ofc in the near future.

This doesn't need a whole article written about it. People play a game for a long time and then move on, happens to every single game. How many games y'all own that y'all haven't touched in over a year?

True, but almost all games have a big drop-off in players after release. People move from game to game and come back once new content and updates release.

It's not finished yet doofus. I played Valheim 70h in couple weeks and been visiting it couple times after that. There has been lot of changes, but I'm waiting for the completion so I would have proper amount of new biomes to explore. I would imagine a lot of ppl are doing the same with this game.

Not even close. Palworld has 500k players on Steam alone right now. Not even including Xbox. So it could be around 700k.

Helldivers 2 is around 100k. Probably 200k in total including Playstation and it probably already peaked. So it's just downhill from here.

It's a great game though and the PC launch has been very successful, Sony is definitely gonna use this as data for eventually going day and date on PC.

Wrong, they just updated the server and it immediately went to 360 k concurrent players. We will have to see if either game has staying power. Haven't played palworld, not my kind of game. I've only played a couple rounds of helldivers 2, still finishing up like a dragon infinute wealth.

This is more of a single player game, even though it has servers. The drop off is expected especially once most people collect everything and level up to max. Once the new updates and content come out I'm sure that the player count will go back up.

They should get some people back but how many? and they will probably keep shedding players for awhile.

The big questions will be - how long do the updates take to come out - how many players they lose until the updates come out - how many of the lost people come back and how long will the updates keep people playing. This isn’t a big dev so they could run into a lot of issues mainly not being able to keep content flowing fast enough to keep people interested.

If they can keep a decent count and keep building the game it could become a long term success but they need to get it going asap before people move on and forget about it. For me the game doesn’t interest me but either does Fortnite or Mimecraft etc

Palworld is not a GAAS game. It is meant to be a complete experience. It is not meant to be a forever game. It just so happens that it's in early access right now, so they're still making updates.

I'm sure there are tons of people that drop off of Pokémon after beating the elite four and catching all the Pokémon they wanted to catch.

Pokemon may retain more players though due to it having a competitive multiplayer mode. There is no competitive multiplayer mode in Palworld (Though I think it is in their plans).

After putting a good 20ish hours into it, I do wish they went more of an RPG route rather than survival building sim personally.

To each their own, but after a while it just really started to feel repetitive but without any of the charm, depth or interest that Pokemon has had.

Will be interesting to see if they build out more game systems to be a bit more robust overtime, then I may be back.

There's only so much building alot of players can do lol, a good story, random side story encounters and other things help keep it feeling fresh that's wassup that alot of gamers enjoyed this fr tho but it all just looked like building with Pokémon like characters to me

Because it gets repetitive after a while. Once you've caught a few Pals and built a base then what next? Simply crafting some orbs and throwing them at Pals to catch them is not exactly exciting or interesting.
At least with Ark Survival, the player has to craft tranqs and build traps before they can actually tame any dinosaur but in comparison Palworld has mind numbingly simple mechanics.

If Sony wanted to, they could revive Jade Cacoon to compete with Pokemon. A shame the series died before really staking its claim, but that's Sonys version of Pokemon
