Microsoft's PlayStation Game Release Plans Seemingly Confirmed by Employee

A Microsoft employee has seemingly corroborated reports of Xbox games launching on PlayStation, if their LinkedIn is anything to go by.

To be fair, that porfolio mentioning those studios and the platforms could mean that he managed marketing strategies for games like: Diablo 4 and OverWatch 2 which are on PS4/PS5 and Minecraft, which is on Switch and mobile.

I don't know, it could have something to do about Gamepass being considered for Playstation and Nintendo, but I will remain a bit skeptical. At least based on this article.

I don’t think much of this. Most likely MS partnering with more PC market leaders to push Xbox more and more toward PC and away from consoles. I don’t see them bringing games to PlayStation and to be honest it doesn’t even make sense.

Because Sony s business model revolves around selling games. PlayStation does not want to condition its customers to be in the mindset where they don't want to buy games just like Xbox gamers. you will never see Gamepass on playstation or nintendo, they are even changing the name to Microsoft gamepass, the games however are different, im sure bethesda has shown data on what games sell on playstation so why wouldnt xbox want more sales ? just depends if people buy them. When you tell your fans no console required and promote renting over buying titles this is what happens, sub models do not work long term for games

They removed/changed/updated the old logos for the sake of *transparency* avoiding getting customers confused and/or mislead by wrong messages, Einstein.

With Gamepass CORE, "Day One on Gamepass" could be misleading and send the wrong message since there´s NO day one releases for Gamepass Core subscribers.

People had a week and longer if you count the initial Hi Fi rush revelation to absorb this. Multiple sources both external and internal that something major is coming. Phils cryptic tweet etc. Its clear Satya is in the drivers seat. You can choose to buckle in and go for the ride or be proactive and sell your XBOX while it still has some worth and before the non-hardcore crowd gets wind of this. Trust me, I saw firsthand the decline of the Dreamcast and how those console prices cratered on the used market. Even if they do not discontinue the hardware why buy a XBOX when the games will be released on PlayStation? I and many others told you that Gamepass will be its death. And here we are..

Gaming generates more money than any other industry so exclusives make even less sense now. Spider-Man 2 cost 300 million what do you think that game would do pc and Xbox? What about horizon forbidden west. More money being generated means companies are able to invest more into growing

I am ok with games launching timed exclusives on their platforms and than 3 months later available elsewhere

The industry has seen growth because of exclusive games. Heck the 1st souls game from from soft was an exclusive.

Exclusives are great for the industry. Growing up means accepting what you find unfair. Thinking everything should just be available everywhere is not only not growing up but also a total lack of discernment regarding how the gaming industry has gotten to where it is.

Best to just wait and see what's said. No matter which side of this you're on, quite a few people are going to go into hiding because of how strongly held their positions are.

However... For anyone saying there is no truth to any of this... Imagine this scenario for a moment: you hear from your partner's friends that they're cheating on you. You don't believe it because maybe the friends have an ulterior motive, but doubt and concerns sink in. So naturally, you confront your partner about it via text message. Maybe a few hours go by, and then you get a reply: "we'll talk about it later."

How exactly does one honestly interpret this kind of message?

Maybe it's just me but it feels like they've been telegraphing these moves for a while: "we no longer consider PlayStation and Nintendo competitors" and "we consider PlayStation and Nintendo part of the Xbox family now" are kind of telling—as I recall, Nadella apparently doesn't like exclusives and they just spent nearly $100 BILLION on studio acquisitions, along with legal bills on an international scale. If I'm CFO, I'm probably telling the angry Xbox fans "cool story, nerd. Don't care, you're still getting the games." Pulling games off other platforms (namely PlayStation) and building a walled garden around historically-accessible content isn't going to make you many fans. You won't encourage people to buy an Xbox at that point, you're going to make people hostile towards your brand. Personally, I think they're sitting on a PS5 Starfield/Indy/Avowed/etc announcement. I might be wrong, but I don't think I am.

On the other side of this, embracing PlayStation releases would unfortunately make it easier for them to acquire more companies.

Personally I really hope this happens. I have both consoles but I can't stand using the Xbox dashboard or controller, my PS profile has over 100 platinums and I have a huge library of unplayed games vs only a handful of games on my Xbox profile (I have OCD issues which means I pretty much have to platinum every game... sue me) and this means I can just get rid of my XSX - and the best bit - it gives me an excuse to play FH4 and FH5 again.

There's several things we learn from this. These are the kind of people large corporations hire to run their business and not only do they hire incompetents like this, but these are EXECUTIVES. This is supposed to be an educated man that clearly has no common sense. I would add to it, this isn't just human error. This isn't a whoopsie! You know, in the law-enforcement world, when you take on the job, you swear an oath to uphold the constitution and maintain your integrity. This means you can't be bought. People in the gaming industry clearly hate their jobs, they just can't keep their mouths shut, they don't understand confidentiality. Jack Tretton just found ways to be classy about it. He even notes later in his presentation, I think for a Hannah Montana PSP bundle "We got you there, something that didn't leak." Though Sony have gotten much better at keeping things in a very small circle to know who the leak was and crush their career so it doesn't happen as much as it used to.

So, yeah. All of this sneaking around and then trying to cover it up only makes you look more guilty. Skilled PR would deal with this saying: "So what's the problem? Minecraft and many Activision and Bethesda games on on other consoles." But their PR team can't keep up. THIS IS WHY XBOX IS STRUGGLING, their gaming division has been under the control of incompetents that can't do their job. It's one constant fall after the other, they just can't rebound. Fortunately, for Xbox fans, unlike SEGA fans like myself in 2000, Xbox Game Studios isn't being sold off to a worse company like happened to Sega being acquired by Sammy, Xbox will still make software, but, look back on Sega and you see where they really couldn't get it together and how the customer suffered. At least with Xbox going third-party, it enables competing studios to open up more and collaborate with them to help them improve and do better. The Coalition working with Bluepoint to remaster the original Gears of War Trilogy. Cliff Blezinski offered to return to revive Gears of War and Phil Spencer told him no.....

You can see the decay, somethings seriously wrong at Xbox and has been since the Xbox One, and Phil Spencers hands are just as dirty from that. Don Mattrick was actually more successful causing most of the pains for Sony with the PS3. Phil Spencer cheerfully and confidently walked on that E3 stage to announce the price for Xbox One and then was shocked it wasn't better received, Phil Spencer was just as guilty, he was just the only one willing to try and clean up the mess.

If this is all a publicity stunt next week, it's going to be the best David Copperfield moment in Xbox history and their marketing team should be commended, but the more things go on, the more bleak it looks. This is why the thick shroud that looks over the industry, rather than being more transparent, is so dangerous. People are smarter than that, they can see things, don't treat your consumers like idiots, you'll be had in the end, you'll get caught.

Never understood Microsoft's business model with Xbox and PC gaming. The Xbox was a great console, but it just couldn't hit Sony and Nintendo console numbers. The Xbox 360, I'd say more than half the sales was due to the RRoD fiasco. For me, the best console generation as a teenager was Mega Drive/Super Nintendo, as an adult, Dreamcast/Xbox/GameCube/PlaySt ation 2. We'll never seen a single format, but I couldn't care less if I'm playing games on console X or console Z. Gaming it too expensive now, 2 consoles is good enough for me. Nintendo ditched home consoles for handhelds, which was the start of a console cull. One console, you choose which brand you buy. It's worked with PC, VHS, CD and DVD players over the years.

This whole situation if true, seems almost like a concerted effort to kill off the die hard xbox fan base. I know it’s about money (just like it is for Sony and nintendo and all business), but to beg for years (looking at you Phil) for the Xbox fans to stick around and give them time to start pumping out the exclusives, and when it finally starts to happen (albeit only just starts) they say well now that we have some stuff let’s just be done with the Xbox brand and fans, is very heartbreaking. Also I’ll caution fans of Sony to keep in mind that in every single instance in history when competition ends so does creativity and the pushing of the envelope. Here’s to you Phil, enjoy retirement.
