Scummy company and garbage tactics.

just_looken424d ago

i agree hence why i do not get all the money sony is spending over making sure this ip is on there platform.

Compared to the old titles numbers are less revenue is down and look at the other games in the revenue space cod is small.

All these scumy moves they are doing is not making them genshin impact money or activisions candy crush numbers.

SullysCigar425d ago

So gross. Don't forget to buy some gun sounds and support Bobby Kotick everyone!

closed_account424d ago

They should just play a sound effect of Bobby Kotick massaging his bunions every time you make a microtransaction purchase.

bobby needs that hooker hush money

People are blasting Activision for being an evil corporation on this, meanwhile everyone continues to fawn on pay to win games like Hunt: Showdown and Tarkov and treat them like they are a breath of fresh air.

ModsDoBetter424d ago

I enjoy Hunt: Showdown BUT I’m not sure what characters you can buy that allow you to say, spawn in with more armour every time such as is the case here.

I know Cain was criticised for blending into the environment too much and as a result they reworked the character model twice.

EFT does have higher tiers which reward more resources and such, and it’s not my type of game but again, they aren’t pay to win, it’s merely skipping a portion of the grind, imo. Though, I may be wrong on that as I haven’t played much EFT and am just going off of what a mate who bought the top edition told me.

JEECE424d ago

"they aren’t pay to win, it’s merely skipping a portion of the grind, imo."

Lol that falls under the heading of pay to win. When I say pay to win, I don't literally mean you pay for armor that makes you invincible and a gun that one shots everyone. I mean that spending money affects gameplay.

It's wild that a few years ago games like Middle Earth:Shadow of War and Star Wars: Battlefront 2 got raked over the coals for having systems where spending money allowed you to avoid grinding, but now supposedly hardcore shooters get a total pass for the same thing. Shows how quickly the gaming community is being tainted by the kids who grew up playing on mobile.

“Lol that falls under the heading of pay to win. When I say pay to win, I don't literally mean you pay for armor that makes you invincible and a gun that one shots everyone. I mean that spending money affects gameplay.”

Something funny?
Are you okay?

Imo it does not fall under pay to win in this instance as you are comparing paying to have more armour, more pvp perks (UAV) on a permanent basis. Absolutely different from paying to start off with some bullets which by the way…deplete. Completely different to buying a character that comes with permanent buffs.

You also didn’t answer how Hunt: Showdown is P2W.

“It's wild that a few years ago games like Middle Earth:Shadow of War and Star Wars: Battlefront 2 got raked over the coals for having systems where spending money allowed you to avoid grinding,”

Again, completely different to EFT.
Why? Because EFT is advertised up front to get some bullets and stuff at the start for supporting the game, whereas BF2 showed players playing as characters under the guise they were all reasonably unlockable. There were not. That is, of course, unless you have years to grind. Bit of a difference.

ChasterMies424d ago

“everyone”?

I tell you what, I go on those comments and talk about pay-to-win and an army of whales will defend these games. They say things like it’s not pay to win if you have to complete the battle pass or git gud. They will defend their right to use cheats. Many folks like me will keep raising the alarm but the fact that 95% of players aren’t up in arms over this tells you a lot about the lack of human desire for true excellence.

JEECE424d ago

Obviously I'm exaggerating with the "everyone." It's just annoying that these types of games get a pass. Like anytime a major studio game (like a Battlefield or COD) has purely cosmetic micro transactions, it gets trashed as corporate greed. I don't like any micro transactions, but I certainly don't want any that affect gameplay. Meanwhile every few months you'll see an article from PC Gamer or some similar site talking about Hunt Showdown as this gem of a game that the hardcore love, when it is far worse in terms of microtransactions than almost any major studio game.

I noticed that when I signed in to check out season 3. Immediately uninstalled and not wasting my time anymore. Luckily we have counter strike two coming out soon so that'll have to be my competitive FPS fix

Bigots & there are plenty on this site.

just_looken7d ago

The down votes because this is call of duty a first person shooter not pride month parade #45

I used to play first person shooter's for the military on military action not to watch someone with a pride flag stapled onto a cat shooting a gun from the boys on a map from my little pony.

Now you first up a game its all over your splash screen almost like a porn game can i just play a quick game like it was on the ps3 era ffs.

Elda7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

It's an article that's talking about COD & Pride freebies that coincides Pride month. June is the month of Pride & in the city & state of NY Puerto Rican heritage is celebrated including the LGBTQ community. You know where you can take your BS bigotry.

just_looken6d ago

@ ELDA

Go bang a dude or be a trans i do not care just do not spread that crap in my face 24/7

I do not care if its dung beetal month i am just sick on tired of it being everywhere like the fury shit or in the old days were church's went door 2 door preaching like gtfo with your cult crap.

Elda6d ago

It goes to show how immature you are because the article didn't look for you you decided to enter the article yourself knowing you knew what the article was about from the get go. Your ignorance shows through knowing Pride month isn't just for the LGBTQ but for all cultures & communities. No one put a gun to your head to enter this article you decided to enter the article just to spew your negative bigoted BS or just maybe you entered the article out of curiosity because you're a closet case.

just_looken6d ago

I entered the article because its about call of duty a videogame because we are on a videogame website

Monetization in Gaming Is Getting Insane

Trevor Walker said: Well, here we are again. Every time I think I’ve said all I have to say about this topic, another studio falls into the same cycle. Monetization in video games seems to be getting more and more out of hand. If you’ve played any AAA title in the last 6 years, you’ve surely seen it. Battle passes, exclusive skins, and sometimes pay to win features have spread throughout the gaming industry like a plague, and we need a cure. Badly. I never thought I’d see the day, but the first game that comes to mind is one that holds a special place in my heart.

You need a cure. Here it is:

1. Don’t buy the game.
2. Don’t just not buy the game, announce it!

Announce on every social media/chat/discourse/streaming … platform available & imaginable that you will not buy the game that is coming out & state the reason that we all know. Then advise others to do the same.

Once you’ve announced it, announce it again for the next game by the same dev that you will not buy their future product either, because of their past dealings with consumers.

3. See 1.

PRIMORDUS58d ago

I don't sub to anything digital, games, movies, TV shows, etc. I just take what I want for PC for the unbeatable price of $0.00 🤣 But I sometimes buy the occasional game, but as for the others I mentioned yeah ok, haha paying for a streaming service to watch shows, movies, etc man GTFO lol

jznrpg58d ago (Edited 58d ago )

I know many people who don’t buy MTs or support gaas. But unfortunately there are just as many people that I know who do and they don’t care about it. Companies won’t stop doing it until the vast majority don’t buy anything. Some GaaS do it better than others but most are looking to make as much MT money as they can get away with and there’s too many who don’t mind it at all

Reviewers can prioritize monetization schemes in their reviews and give companies low scores based on severity.

This is one of the reasons why I've been focusing more on older games from PS3 & X360 all the way back to the NES.
Rarely can a modern big budget game garner my attention, because its just the same stale concept over and over again. Open world, busy work, grinding, where your job is literally to be a trash collector (constantly picking up endless resources off the ground), the entire industry has been copying Ubi-junk, and I'm just not interested.

Add in the fact that games are clearly releasing in beta form (sometimes very early beta form!), then there's randomized gear you have to pick up and upgrade, then all those boring skill trees to fill in, which is the laziest form of fake game progression imaginable.

Then there's the nasty business model of paying an extra $20 just to play an unfinished game 3 days early. Disgusting behavior, and anyone who supports those companies are actively making our industry worse.

The game industry has never been perfect, but its also never been this bad either.
