Multiversus is a lesson in how not to make a free-to-play game

Multiversus' player base has fallen over 99% since launch, and that should come as no surprise considering its long-unresolved issues.

Personally I think the decision to build the game around team battles was a terrible idea. It meant that certain support characters were effectively useless in 1v1, a mode that should have been the focus. That, and the cooldowns on special moves killed it for me.

i think it got popular too fast, devs couldnt deliver fast enough and players dipped.

its a shame, but it is what it is.

was it ever popular? i didnt hear about it after one week

gold_drake457d ago

it was yea.
alot of ppl played it.

but, imo, the devs never anticipated the rapid growth and just couldnt pop out content fast enough.

I played regularly throughout season 1, but barely touched it once season 2 launched for the following reasons:
1) The lack of content. Still only 1 new character launched during the entirety of season 2, compared to one every two weeks during season 1.
2) A distinct drop in value for the season pass. Not as much content all round, and the content there was seemed like more of the same, giving a real sense of diminishing returns.
3) A frustrating patch system, where some characters seemed to be being constantly tweaked, while others (considered either overpowered or underpowered by the community) were seemingly ignored.

It's a genuine shame. The game had potential. If they'd waited until they had a roster of 25+ characters, 10+ stages, then released it as a retail game rather than F2P, it would likely have done far better in the long run.

They needed more revenue streams than mtx’s to support higher quality game development.

The game is good, but it is noticeably less tight than the game it is obviously emulating.
