honestly being able to take the headset out and plug in a single wire is so much nicer than the mess I had with the original PSVR. Because the original Processing box didn't allow for HDR passthrough, I ended up having to do a setup involving an HDMI switch so I could bypass the processing box and still get HDR content on my TV. None of that is needed now, which is so much less of a headache. Literally plug and play here.

SullysCigar473d ago

They fixed that for the revision that came out shortly after launch, but yeah, same, it was a pain.

This makes it much more feasible to grab your PSVR2 and go round someone else's house to play it with them on their PS5. Realistically, with the OG PSVR, that was too much of a ball ache for anyone to bother. I wonder if that might help more people to experience PSVR2?

Neonridr473d ago (Edited 473d ago )

yeah I knew that the 2nd version corrected the HDR issue with an updated processing box, but as a 1st gen owner, I couldn't exchange my box for the newer one sadly.

And yeah, since the PS VR2 box doubles as a storage box, no reason why you can't just toss the headset and 2 controllers in and take it to your buddies house who happens to have a PS5 too.

1nsomniac472d ago (Edited 472d ago )

“Doubles as a storage box” that still cracks me up 😂

Ignoring that, I’m a PSVR v1 owner too, also had the HDMI switch drama. so I’m glad we’re getting a decent outing this time. Im looking forward to it.

It's super easy to use compared to the the first. The new gamepads are also very slick and comfortable.

Playing kayak vr during a storm is freaking amazing, because they try to mimic the rain hitting the water. You feel it on the gamepads!!!

But, again, I think I already told this in other news, the first minutes on horizon are mind-blowing. And the game is super cool.

Neonridr472d ago

looking forward to trying both. The kayaking game is different enough to warrant some attention.

Sonic1881472d ago

I'm hoping Sony makes a cordless version someday or when the PS6 comes out. Maybe PSVR3

Neonridr472d ago

Wireless would be great someday. I think they are getting to a point where wireless transmissions are fast enough that in theory it could work.

Futureshark472d ago

I'm guessing that the main reason it's not wireless is it would need a large, heavy battery to get decent game time out of it, which in turn would increase the weight and spoil the balance of the headset.
However one wire is so much better then before. Very excited!!!

babadivad471d ago (Edited 471d ago )

I might actually pick this up. I gave the original PSVR a hard pass.

Seeing as how the OG-PSVR had undocumented bugs, I may wait until the kinks in the software/hardware is ironed out.

Neonridr471d ago

I'm a VR enthusiast, so I'm all in. For those on the fence, waiting means that any kinks are worked out and the library will be healthier. Not to mention depending on how long you wait the hardware might be cheaper as well. I think this one will perform far better than the original PSVR because of the implementation and ease of use.

I'm really looking forward to trying this out with GT7, never tried VR before.

I wouldn't actually say I'm a massive VR convertee....I've literally bought it just for GT7. But I hope to be bowled over by the other offerings too.

EverydayJoe472d ago

I think you are in for a treat. PSVR was my 2nd VR experience and I was blown away by it. I got my preorder in yesterday, and very much looking forward to seeing how much has improved since PSVR. The set up ease was what sealed the deal for me.

fleshzombie471d ago

Exactly the same with me, I purchased once GT7 was confirmed. This will be my first VR headset and any other games that end up being good are just a bonus but I am excited

specialguest471d ago

I'm declaring the PSVR 2 and the PS5 as the best VR platform, because PC VR is basically dead. After HL Alyx, there was nothing. What a f**king let down. VR games on the Quest are very limited to the power of the mobile chip, and lackluster

S2Killinit471d ago

Its not dead, and meta quest 3 will be incoming but yes I agree that PSVR2 will be the best or one of two best headsets out there for some time. Its chucked full of cutting edge tech, and there will be some great gaming incoming. The PCVR and PSVR2 will go hand in hand.

Neonridr471d ago

ignoring the fact that plenty of PS VR2 games are already available on PC? What a weird statement.

tbagmonster471d ago

what a beautiful piece of tech only 2% of gamers will ever get to experience.

S2Killinit471d ago (Edited 471d ago )

I think there will be a lot more as VR penetration into the market has increased, and VR games and tech have come a long way. Give me a couple of games on the level of Horizon: Call of the Mountain, and Half Life Alyx and we will be witnessing a golden age of VR. (Forgot GT7, RE8)

Neonridr471d ago

at the price point, I would be surprised if we see even 5% install base owning PS VR2. I love VR and am a huge supporter of it, but it's a hard sell to ask the regular folk to spend more on the accessory than the console itself.

S2Killinit471d ago

On the price front, you are actually paying less than you did for the original PSVR, and definitely paying less for anything comparable on the PC. This guy explains it pretty well if you are interested.

I feel sorry for the 98% gamers then, happy to be that 2%. If gamers choose the path of free CoD instead of something actually fun, nothing much we can do.

Sorry but PSVR2 is dead and double dead at any sale price. It was dead before it launched as the "premium" VR scene lost all the AAA developers and now it is all indie mobile phone crap quality software.

State of Play | May 30, 2024

State of Play is back! Tune in live for updates on PS5 and PS VR2 titles, plus a look at PlayStation Studios games arriving later this year.

darthv721d 5h ago (Edited 1d 5h ago )

Im getting a bit of GotG vibes from Concord.

Ragnarok coming September 2024... that's just shy of 2 years since the PS5 release in November 2022.

-Foxtrot1d 5h ago (Edited 1d 4h ago )

I thought exactly the same. If they made it more like the GotG game and it wasn't online focused I'd have been sold instantly.

BISHOP-BRASIL1d 1h ago (Edited 1d 1h ago )

Yup, I was hyped up by the cinematic trailer and immediately put off the moment the gameplay trailer started, that was very high quality and great concept cinematic just for another Overwatch wannabe... Here's hoping they succeed so eventually someday they make an actual campaign focused entry for the franchise, but I'm not holding my breath and I'm definitely not falling for always online crap and FOMO just to follow drip fed cinematic "content".

EDIT: I'm still watching it as I comment... OMG they have another hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, seriously, they missed 2020 or something? For those not into online only and VR games, gotta say, poor show so far...

Profchaos1d 4h ago

Gotg would of been a hit if it released before Avengers was my goty a few years back so I'm intrigued here

RaidenBlack1d 4h ago (Edited 1d 4h ago )

GotG is very underrated and had the unfortunate luck of releasing just after Avengers.
Its really good and more people should play it.

Lightning771d 1h ago

Concord didn't do anything for me personally just another Overwatch mash up with other fps stuff. I mostly popped for Dynasty Warriors for next year. That was my biggest reveal I was genuinely excited for.

No Ghost 2. It's very clear Sony will wait later to Announce the Big Aaa's they don't wanna announce stuff too early and rather announce it closer to release.

darthv721d 4h ago

Maybe its just me but Astrobot looked more R&C inspired than ever.

P_Bomb1d 4h ago

Astro won the show. Looks epic! Huge bosses too like from the PSVR game.

shinoff21831d 4h ago

Astro bot and silent hill 2 remake are what I'm liking out of this.

RaidenBlack1d 4h ago (Edited 1d 4h ago )

Most games appeared good.
Where Winds Meet and Monster Hunter seemed like those needed a bit more polish but that's ok as those aren't releasing anytime soon but I am still kinda worried regarding SH2Remake. Still looks rough and from rear view, James Sunderland looks nearly identical to Leon Kennedy's model from RE4Remake. Hope I am wrong though.
Other games were decent. Even Marvel Rivals.
Ballad of Antara was the highlight for me, followed by Infinity Nikki(purely on the art style alone).
And glad that, Path of Exile 2 is coming to PS5 and Ragnarok is coming to PC!
Behemoth for VR2 also looked really interesting.

PapaBop1d 4h ago

You actually liked Infinity Nikki art style?

PSPSA19h ago

Was my favorite looking game of the show, art style looks amazing

RaidenBlack17h ago

Its not my type of game ...but the design and art style is really well thought out

Lightning771d 1h ago (Edited 1d 1h ago )

Marvel Rivals had a PC invite alpha test a few weeks back and they love the hell out it saying it's an Overwatch killer. I'm definitely down to play and play as my favorite.

STORM. ❄️💨🌊⚡

There's a closed beta in July on consoles but I doubt I'll be able to get in.

InUrFoxHole22h ago

In overwatch 's defense didn't it kill itself?

Michiel198918h ago

they also gave out beta keys where you had to sign an nda not to say anything negative about the game, otherwise you could not play. Don't support stuff like that :) surprised they even showed it here cause it looks terrible and it will fail faster than Artifact
