Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Prove We Need A Nintendo Switch 2

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are the best reason for a Nintendo Switch 2, as the games are being criticized for their poor performance on the Switch.

When has Gamefreak ever properly used the tools given to them on a given platform? I also feel like people forget Pokemon is a multi billion dollar IP that makes a bulk of its money with merchandise outside of just videogames. That means deadlines so that everything drops around the same time.

Yes there needs to be a Switch successor but let's not act like we haven't been here before with Pokemon games. Outside of side games that are outsourced when has a Pokemon game ever been properly optimized for the platform it was on. Even with mid gen upgrades they did little to fix tech issues which have been prevalent since the original entries. The only reason Red and Blue released in a playable state was Iwata bailing them out as the then rookie devs couldn't even properly tell him what they did and he had to figure it out himself. Think about that. 🤣

But there was also issues with that Zelda remake of link's awakening and it's poor performance.
But you're right. It's poor optimization, as look at botw. That runs flawlessly, and that's an intense game graphicly.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Switch needs a refresh more than anything at this point. However, if Pokemon S&V showed anything is that we need a developer other than Gamefreak to make the pokemon games.

Which is never going to happen because they are equal partners in The Pokemon Company and which is why Nintendo really has nothing to do with the actual development of the titles.
Would be nice if they cooperated with Nintendo studios though

Exactly. Because of Pokémon S&V are we expecting Zelda 2 to look like shit? Nope! Because 1st party Nintendo wouldn't make stuff that shitty. GF are definitely the problem here.

It’s proof that gamefreak are utter incompetent at optimization. Just look at the other first party Nintendo titles on how well they perform within the hardware’s limitations. XC3 and BoTW are good examples of how they managed to get a complex open world games to work on the system.These new Pokémon games are hardly pushing the limits of the hardware. But I digress, it’s Pokémon and it will sell millions and nothing will change.

Even people who emulate switch games on their pc and steam deck which they get the games running at 60 are struggling to get Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to run even after a consistent 40 with the same pop in glitches. It is a mess.

On one hand I do agree it looks that there is definitely a need for a better technical team at gamefreak to really work on their engine.
But on the other, they are basically operating on a Fifa/Madden level of release schedule (which incidentally is the kind of franchise that barely sees any innovation)
Even COD and AC had to basically recruit/absorb multiple studios to be able to manage a yearly release schedule.
Legends Arceus isnt even 11 months old at this point, they were crazy to release this i e so soon.

Granted, with the amount of money everyone involved in the Pokemon Company makes, its downright stubbornness and/or greediness from Gamefreak not to significantly expand its team

I wish Nintendo would make a next-gen console, but here’s what’ll happen, their next console will be the equivalent of a PS4/Xbone, then this whole process will repeat itself when next-gen games eventually (and hopefully soon) become the norm.

i think it just proves more that nintendo need to put more effort into making a more powerful console. they do the bare minimum in terms of console performance and still charge the same amount as ms and sony does for their games.

That title.. lol. No need of a Switch 2, instead just ask Pokemon company why they don't allocate more ressources or more time to produce a real Switch game.

Why would Pokémon company do that though? Games sell pretty well, even meta/opencritic shows that "critics" love this game, with 31 positive (75+) reviews and 0 negative ones for metacritic and 21 positive and 0 negative reviews for opencritic.

Regular fans are not happy, but Pokémon company doesn't listen to their opinion, they only look at the sale numbers. And some reviewers (like Eurogamer, CNET) just marked their review as "unscored" and IGN is still in progress, i guess, so they wouldn't bring the overall score down (because short review snippets show that they're not happy with the game). It's super weird with Nintendo and/or Pokémon games.

This game should be able to run on a shitty cellphone, which is what the Switch basically is. I think QC is a problem at GameFreak.
