Usually I opt for Performance, as the trade off of fps isn't worth it to me - but that's actually a huge difference in the reflections in Fidelity mode! Downright gorgeous. I'll probably do a full playthrough in each. Can't wait for tomorrow!

PrimeVinister1083d ago

The Performance Mode decider for me was the slick, smooth movement of thousands of particles at 60fps. It sounds like a small thing but once you see it on a nice television, it's breathtaking, man.

Cos I didn't mind 30fps for anything else... except for the particles (drool face)

deleted1083d ago

Yea, my first playthrough will probably be performance! Thanks for the comparison shots. Game is absolutely stunning either way. :)

Futureshark1083d ago

Performance RT still has the reflections and is 60fps too!

That's the one to go for by the look of it.

RaiderNation1083d ago

Yeah, Performance + RT is THE mode! I honestly don't even know why Insomniac fools with regular performance mode. There's literally no advantage to it over performance + RT.

deleted1083d ago (Edited 1083d ago )

Yea you're right! Yea I'd rather lower the rez and keep the best of both the reflections and silky smooth gameplay. RT Performance it is!

@CaptainHenry916 - it says right there in the video variable up to 2160p to have both RT and Performance, but yes is can dip as low as 1080p given the situation on screen.

CaptainHenry9161083d ago (Edited 1083d ago )

Is that in 1080p with RT turned on? It would have been awesome if performance RT was in 1440p that would have been the sweet spot

CaptainHenry9161083d ago (Edited 1083d ago )

If only if the PS5 was capable of using the AMD FidelityFX or DLSS. That's definitely a game changer. I love that feature on PC. Hopefully PS5 gets it someday. DLSS is unbelievable the first time I tried it

StoneyYoshi1083d ago

@Captain Henry

"Is that in 1080p with RT turned on? It would have been awesome if performance RT was in 1440p that would have been the sweet spot"

In the description they state that Performance mode runs at an average of 1800p and RT Performance averages out to 1440p. Basically identical to how Miles morales performs in each mode.

RaiderNation1083d ago

@CaptainHenry916

"If only the PS5 was capable of using the AMD FidelityFX or DLSS"

PS5 is absolutely capable of using AMD FidelityFX and it WILL use it once it becomes available. AMD has already confirmed this. DLSS is Nvidia, therefore PS5 and XSX will not be using it.

Jin_Sakai1083d ago (Edited 1083d ago )

The best mode is Performance RT. It’s a solid 60fps and while the resolution is lower, Insomniac Games Temporal Injection is one of the best in the industry according to DF.

Agreed. As I went through the screens it looks like the noticeable difference is wherever there are reflections. In all the screen shots I only noticed a few with a difference. To me, it will be more about how the game runs at 30 or 60 fps. If it is smooth at 30 fps I would probably stick there. But if the engine stutters at times with 30 fps I would opt for the 60 mode.

People have to remember that 30 fps is not a problem really, the problem is significantly dropping below 30 fps. Pre PS4 and a good part of the PS4 era was 30 fps for games with significant graphical complexity. To me, 30 fps is like a minimum viable performance for games. As you move up from 30 fps, the game just feels smoother to play.

seanpitt231083d ago (Edited 1083d ago )

If you want to play this maxed out at 30 FPS then do it first don’t go to the performance mode straight after because when you go back to the 30 FPS it will seem unplayable…

Hopefully the ps5 pro in the next 3 years will have no compromises and can do upscaled high 4K with RT at 60fps

masterfox1083d ago

performance with RT will be the option to use :D

PrimeVinister1083d ago

I will have a comparison up tomorrow but the resolution scaling is VERY aggressive on Performance RT and if you are playing on a moderately-sized 4K TV and have reasonable eyes - you will definitely notice how soft the image gets :-(

RaiderNation1083d ago (Edited 1083d ago )

Is it any different than Miles Morales? Because I had to practically squint to see any difference between it and regular performance mode. As for fidelity mode, it may be sharper but I cannot go back to 30fps! I'll gladly trade some visual fidelity for better framerate. Hopefully once console games start implementing AMD's Fidelity FX this will become even less of an issue.

PrimeVinister1083d ago

The scaling is more aggressive than on Spider-Man MM. It looks downright blurry when in motion sometimes.

RaiderNation1083d ago (Edited 1083d ago )

@PrimeVinister,

That's strange because literally no one else is talking about this. Pretty much every media outlet and YouTuber who's reviewed the game has said Performance + RT mode is the way to go. I've watched countless videos of the game running in performance RT and I didn't really notice the scaling like you're describing. You must be hypersensitive to it. What kind of TV are you gaming on? I have a 65" LG OLED and it already does a fantastic job of scaling up to 4K on non 4K images. So maybe that's why I don't notice it so much.

I_am_Batman1083d ago

Obviously there are noticeable tradeoffs between the modes, but a slightly softer image doesn't bother me. The most jarring difference is going down to 30fps so the "fidelity mode" is a no-go for me personally, especially in a game with so much action happening on the screen. The resolution tradeoff between performance and performance + RT might be worth it for some people sitting close enough to the screen to be bothered by the reduced clarity.

I'll almost certainly gonna end up playing the performance + RT mode.

@I_am_BATMAN

IMO the biggest, most obvious difference is going from Fidelity to Performance with no ray tracing. Once you see ray traced reflections and then suddenly those are taken away, it's pretty jarring. The Performance + RT is kind of the best of both worlds.

Amplitude1083d ago

Wow the fidelity mode looks amazing but nah - 60fps all the way especially for a Ratchet game.

Insomniac's motion blur does wonders to make 30fps playable but ehhhhhhhhh gimme dat 60fps

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Review – More Characters, Less Fun

Gary Green said: Ratchet & Clank is a curious franchise as you never know what will happen next. Back in the PS2 era, we had regular releases featuring full sequels every year or two. It was a schedule which continued into the PS3 era with equally regular releases yet these were often downgraded to budget-priced shorter games or spin-offs. You could tell those creators over at Insomniac were running out of ideas.

A 6? Strong disagree on this one. Huge fan of the franchise and really enjoyed this game. But to each their own. Hope there is another one in the works (I know Insomniac is pretty busy haha).

I freaking loved it. It was gorgeous, and downright fun at all times.

AMD FSR 3.1 Announced at GDC 2024, FSR 3 Available and Upcoming in 40 Games

Last September, we unleashed AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3)1 on the gaming world, delivering massive FPS improvements in supported games.

So to put 2 and 2 together... FSR 3.1 is releasing later this year and the launch game to support it is Rachet and Clank: Rift Apart. In Sony's DevNet documentation it shows Rachet and Clank: Rift Apart as the example for PSSR. PS5 Pro also launches later this year... but there is something else coming too: AMD RDNA 4 Cards (The very same technology thats in the Pro). So, PSSR is either FSR 3.1 or its a direct collaboration with AMD for that builds on FSR 3.1. Somehow they are related. I think PSSR is FSR 3.1 with the bonus of AI... now lets see if RDNA 4 cards also include an AI block.

More details:
FSR 3.1 fixes Frame Generation
If you have a 30 series RTX card you can now use DLSS3 with FSR Frame Generation (No 40 Series required!)
Its Available on all Cards (we assume it will come to console)
Fixes Temporal stability

MrDead66d ago

I've been using a mod that allows dlss frame gen on my 3080 it works on all rtx series. It'll be good not to rely on mods for the future.

darksky66d ago

The mods avaiable are actually using FSR3 frame gen but with DLSS or FSR2 upscaling.

Babadook766d ago (Edited 66d ago )

I think that the leaks about the 5 Pro would debunk the notion that the two (FSR 3.1 and PSSR) are the same technology. PSSR is a Sony technology.

MrDead67d ago (Edited 67d ago )

I wonder how much they fixed the ghosting in dark areas as Nvidia are leaving them in the dust with image quality. Still good that they are improving in big leaps, I'll have to see when the RTX5000 series is released who I go with... at the moment the RTX5000's are sounding like monsters.

just_looken66d ago

Did you see the dell leaks were they are trying to cool cards using over 1k watts of power.

We are going to need 220 lines for next gen pcs lol

MrDead66d ago

That's crazy! Sounds like heating my house won't be a problem next winter.

porkChop66d ago

As much as I hate supporting Nvidia, AMD just doesn't even try to compete. Their whole business model is to beat Nvidia purely on price. But I'd rather pay for better performance and better features. AMD also doesn't even try to innovate. They just follow Nvidia's lead and make their own version of whatever Nvidia is doing. But they're always 1 or 2 generations behind when it comes to those software/driver innovations, so Nvidia is always miles ahead in quality and performance.

MrDead66d ago

I do a lot of work on photoshop so an Intel Nvidia set up has been the got to because of performance edge, more expensive but far more stable too. Intel also have the edge over AMD processors with better load distribution on the cores, less spikes and jitters. When you're working large format you don't want lag or spikes when you're editing or drawing.

I do think AMD has improved massively though and whist I don't think they threaten Nvidia on the tech side they do make very well priced cards and processors for the power. I'm probably going with a 5080 or 5090 but AMD will get a little side look from me, which is a first in a long time... but like you said they are a generation or two behind at the moment.

Goosejuice65d ago

While I can't argue for amd gpu, they aren't bad but they aren't great either. The cpu for amd have great. I would argue the 7800x3d as one of the best cpu for gaming right now. Idk about editing so I take ur word for that but gaming amd cpu is a great option these days.

porkChop65d ago

@Goosejuice

I have a 7800X3D. It certainly is great for gaming. Though for video editing, rendering, etc, I think Intel have the advantage from what I remember. I just mean from a GPU standpoint I can't support them.

The 5 best games on PlayStation Plus Premium that make subscribing worth it

The PS5 is an incredible console, and if you're lucky enough to have one, or have just received one for Christmas then you'll already know there is a host of great games out there.

What you may not be aware of is that if you subscribe to PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium, you'll actually get access to a huge catalogue of titles to play at any time. Many of which you can stream without having to do any downloads. If you have a PlayStation Portal you could even play these titles from your bed.

Abnor_Mal142d ago

Damn the only one I’ve played so far is Miles Morales, although I do own Control and Rift Apart.

ChasterMies142d ago

Odd list. Where is Horizon Forbidden West? Ghost of Tsushima? Demon’s Souls? Returnal? And fun indie games like Superliminal? Where’s “A Plage Tale Requiem” and “Evil West”, the current PS+ Essential offerings?

Exvalos130d ago

Evil west is underrated I'm having a really good time playing it.

juniorpop142d ago

Like seriously? Those are games Extra Tier can get - so not worth upgrading to Premium
